Hey guys, my wife (StacMar) and myself run a small but growing TF2 community www.s4lservers.com and we are starting to get into the more competitive side of TF2. We currently have 3 servers and need to decide what to do with our newest server. It is a 26 slot rented from Tragic over at www.tragicservers.com and is located in Chicago (an nfoservers.com server)
The server pretty much is completely set up for matches to be held on it. It has MGE mod, soap DM and all of the UGC and ESEA configs. We are willing to allow any organized team (or teams having tryouts) to use the server whenever they need to.
My question is, Is there a need for something like this? I know there is no shortage of servers out there in general but do some people have issues finding a good one to use or do not have the funds to do so? This server would be free to use for you guys. For the time being, I will set it up on a normal rotation or something else and whenever it is needed, all I need is a decent notice and I will have it ready for you.

Im pretty new to this community so I do not know everyone yet but if cinq needs to use the server for something, we would be happy to do that.

Cinq runs some of the popular TF2 IRC channels with his bots, and currently supplies a few servers to teams that need them via an IRC command.
However, I spoke with him about adding servers to the bots, and he said it's not something that can be easily done at the moment, and he doesn't have time to implement the functionality himself. I offered to take a look at the code and see what I can come up with, but until then, it looks like he won't be able to do anything with extra servers.

If you're playing Highlander and trying to setup a 6's team, I would go ahead and save it for your own teams. While most teams do have their own servers some will have to scrim on your server. It also helps to easily get STV recordings and stats.

It's a great offer, but I think what you're likely to find is that not a lot of people will take you up on the other offer. By the time someone has been able to contact you to use the server, they'll probably have been able to PM 10 other people on steam that might not be using their server that night, and no doubt one of them will say yes.

Yea I actually thought about this as well. Just kinda throwing it out there because we were't sure if there was a need or not. We will be using the server for our own scrimms of course but if anyone else needs it as well there is that option too.

this is very true. Too many break up stories with one of the spouse's being a gamer and the other is not and that never seems to end well. StacMar and myself highly enjoy our TF2 community and a lot of the people that are in our group are like family in a sense. We will be around for awhile to come.

This would be a nice idea. I for one could use some practice in deathmatch and my movement abilities. Thanks for the tip, this may be what I use it for.

Not familiar with Bball but if it stands for basket ball I think i can figure it out lol. Sounds really really fun though. Im sure I could have the server rotate from mge>Jump maps>surf(maybe)>Bball By changing to a particular map it should activate whatever game mode it is associated with through a maps.cfg file. They are having Highlander tryouts on the server right now but afterwards I am going to get some things set up on it. The server ip address is s4l2.game.nfoservers.com

Menace to Society (mTs) will be using the server Sunday and Monday nights from 8pm to midnight. Just letting others know so if they are interested, they can schedule around that.

Im probably way off base with that one lol but im sure their ping would suck badly in a Chicago server. Sorry for not following you there but I am interested in what you have to say.

One thing - people who are playing practice-specific game modes probably won't want to jump around between different things (i.e. go from soapdm to jumping to ammomod etc), so not sure a rotation server would get/stay populated.

Edit:MGE stats or no stats? Im guessing no stats as that could get discouraging to the lower level players and the purpose is to improve. thats my opinion but if the community wants stats then I shall create a database for it.

you could use the esea or ugc 6s whitelist, the latter of which I believe is available for download on the UGC site.
Then you could move from there to tweak certain items (mantreads, other 'troll' weapons, etc) based on recommendation
