Silent-DanLoving the config, probably the best one i've tried out so far, but how do I get it to work with offline servers?

host_thread_mode 0. Remember to change it to host_thread_mode 1 when online.

And thanks! <3

degur_pixelfog is different for nvidia and amd graphic cards, r_pixelfog 1 is off on nvidia but on on amd
i speak from perspective of current owner of gtx 1060 and former owner of radeon 6850

Hm, interesting but I think the result will be the same with -nops2b

with this config my first person tracers look odd, not disabled, as ive turned r_drawtracers_firstperson to 1, but there seems to be sometimes only 1 bullet coming out of the gun, or even sometimes looking like it isnt even coming out of the gun

can anybody give me the command to reverse this? i would use this config if i knew how to fix this

tracer_extra 1 if you're using maxframes.cfg.

Hoppscl_particle_batch_mode 0

Not sure if cl_particle_batch_mode affects it, but if it does affect it, set it to the default of 1, not 0.

Try r_shader_srgb 1 or 0. Also what is your graphics card?

I've tested before that tracer_extra has nothing to do with the case described above.

You're probably right on this. oops!

This is what it looks like with cl_particle_batch_mode set to 2
https://youtu.be/TC-w_cBrHeY

In addition, while moving, the bullet trace may come out from somewhere else instead of the actual gun.

Yeah, I wasn't really familiar with that problem so I was just guessing.

Interesting. To be honest, I thought cl_particle_batch_mode 2 was kinda snake oil but it seems like it has some actually noticeable effects. I'll have to test it further to see which one is more optimal.

Would anyone be interested in a max quality config?

http://i.imgur.com/6RKVllH.jpg

This is what I've gotten so far. I'm doing a repass of all the settings and comments in my config and I thought it would be fun to also see how good I can make TF2 look. Surprisingly or as expected (depending on how you look at it), it doesn't impact FPS by a ton, as most of TF2's general performance issues come from other, non graphical options (of course assuming you have a good PC).

smziIs the cfg linked at the start of the thread updated and worth being called a maxtoaster.cfg?mastercomsosvaldo@mastercoms Are you changing the config and updating the link each time you find something new or implement somebody's suggestion ?

Also when do you expect to release a "final" (aka more polished and further tested) version of your config ?
It is on git, so it is updated and has history of all changes (commits). I update the config almost daily according to suggestions and my own improvements. The config is constantly being improved so I don't think there will be a final version. However, I'm planning on polishing much more soon after the pyro update comes out.

There is a difference between toaster cfgs and maxframes cfgs. Some CVars might be good on toasters but will decrease performance on good PCs. The maxframes cfg only increases performance where it is good for both toasters and good PCs. Comments specify further tuning you can do for toasters.

The links are to the latest version of the config, using a system called git. Git tracks the history of changes of the config as well, so you can see what the updates change.

Hey, thks for benchmarking the config. But did you used the maxframes variant of it or just the "regular" one ?

EDIT:
@mastercoms Could you explain the thought process behind setting net_splitrate to 3 and cl_smoothtime to 0.15 ? Also, regarding one of the comments you made in the config, and for the whole config generally speaking, what do you consider to be a "fast enough network" ?

// if you have a fast enough network, this is recommended.
net_compresspackets 0

Same question applies to this command too

// you can change this to 581304 to always thread packets
// very demanding of your computer, and the network system
// keep it at 1 if your computer can't handle it
net_queued_packet_thread 1

+ I dont want to bring back an old debate, but may I ask how did you got the value for this ?:

//zoom_sensitivity_ratio 0.818933027098955175

Thanks for these benchmarks. Though, I would recommend testing dx9 as well, for yourself. dx9 takes better advantage of your hardware and can result in more frames with modern configs like mine. However, if it is just visual preference, then I guess dx8 is fine. Also I have a favor to ask of you, if I may. Could you individually benchmark each launch option I suggest? Maybe then we can find the culprit which is slowing everything down.

EDIT: Do you not have a space between -dxlevel and 81?

quantumhow do you disable these effects, they are disabled in comanglia's config, but i can't find the command

Is this from the sniper you are looking at? Or is it an impact from your firing?

osvaldonet_splitrate to 3

I looked at TF2 network usage and determined that the best split rate to reliably transfer enough data per frame was 2 to 3, with 3 being on the safe side. However, with some reevaluation I am considering changing the value to 2.

osvaldocl_smoothtime to 0.15

This is based on human reaction times, though I should consider how different situations will cause different smoothing movements to occur to adjust the value further.

osvaldowhat do you consider to be a "fast enough network" ?

2 times the rate I set. Rate is in bytes per second.

osvaldonet_queued_packet_thread 581304

This doesn't rely on your network performance, just on your CPU's ability to handle the network code. You'll probably need a beefy CPU to run fully threaded network mode.

zoom_sensitivity_ratio

It was from a /r/GlobalOffensive post I read about the CVar. https://www.reddit.com/r/GlobalOffensive/comments/43urd4/why_0818933027098955175_is_the_best_zoom/

Though, to be honest, I didn't investigate it myself and just took whatever he said in that post to be correct.

Not sure, probably not. It gives you better network performance but lower framerates, depending on your CPU.
