ultiduo_winter and an Ultiduo Survey

Hey guys, recently I've been working on a new ultiduo map and in order to make it something people will actually play, I started asking people who play it often how they feel about certain maps and the gameplay involved. A lot of the responses I had gotten were genuinely surprising to me so it's clear I don't really know much about what people like in playing ultiduo. I made this survey in order to get a better idea of what people like about ultiduo and what they don't like. I highly encourage you to ask whoever your typical ultiduo partner is to complete the survey. Please only complete the survey once.

Most of the questions are pretty general so along with the data that I get from the survey, I'd like this thread to serve as a sort of discussion of what could work in an ultiduo map and what couldn't. Anybody can throw in an idea and hopefully someone else will respond with why it works or why it doesn't work. This way a suggestion for my map can be judged before being implemented for testing.

I would also like feedback on my own map. I have been experimenting with a death pit near the point which has gotten good responses so far. For the past few versions, I have had testing from Nursey, Daffodil, Percy, and a set of other players (huge thanks to them) but am now looking for more responses. The map itself is still in the very early stages so barely anything is decorated and anything is subject to change (including the name!)

I will most likely be posting the changelogs here with images when appropriate.

One more thing I want to point out is that I am still a junior mapmaker so it's entirely possible I have made several mistakes in the process of this map's creation. Ultiduo is arguably the simplest of competitive formats (with the exception of mge) so I used it as a starting point for map making. Please let me know if I have made any mistakes in terms of the mapping process.

I encourage people to actually try the map with the death pit before knocking it out but as always I'm open to changing it. If it's to be changed, should the space that took up the death pit be at the level of the point or the rest of the floor?

how are you supposed to enjoy playing with a death pit when both teams are actually trying to win and therefore will shotgun deny for easy death pit frags

You could potentially say the same thing for other game modes like spire and ultiduo baloo. Most people don't do it just like they don't sit by the spawn door waiting for the enemy to come out. Sure it's effective but it's BM and if you're playing, you're more than likely playing for fun.

As a map dev you get to have 2 choices, make a map that's just for fun and therefore it doesn't matter what you decide to put in it because it isn't serious competitively (take almost every map ever made for ultiduo as an example here) or a map that is trying to be able to be used in tourneys and cups.

If you pick the first option then do whatever you want. If it's the second option try and make it so you aren't incentivised to do things like shotgun deny and counterjump.

Speaking from some playtesting I did, the deathpit only ever came into effect when the teams were actually capping the point. Shotgun denial into the pit was a rare occurrence even with it being actively attempted. It definitely isn't the biggest concern as soldiers didn't tend to jump the center of the bridge anyways (heals need to be taken up the sides to effectively fight). Just play test it a bit, if anyone wants to add me to play some im always down for ultiduo.

I can understand that and as such, I am open to changing it. I think I need more direction than "floor" for what to switch it to because there are plenty of ways I can make it floor and would make game play different in each of them.

I can understand that and as such, I am open to changing it. I think I need more direction than "floor" for what to switch it to because there are plenty of ways I can make it floor and would make game play different in each of them.
