"crosshair"
{
"file" "vgui/replay/thumbnails/seeker"
"x" "0"
"y" "0"

Since the bazaar isn't in the file, do i just make a file with the wep definition and just copy and paste the text from the sniper rifle file?

either

  • you could bind your melee key to bring out your melee and to hide the crosshair with the crosshair 0 console command
    like this
    bind "1" "slot1; crosshair1"
    bind "2" "slot2; crosshair1"
    bind "3" "slot3; crosshair0"
  • you could make a blank vtf crosshair for melees only
either

Could someone make a Circledot crosshair (the one from OP), but without outlines on the outer circle?
And maybe more clear/visible outlines on the inner dot?

Also: If you just want to use the same crosshair for all weapons and only use VTF over HUD crosshairs, because they are easier to use, but don't feel like manually changing the files for all weapons to the same crosshair, you can use this console command:

cl_crosshair_file ../replay/thumbnails/crosshairname

you don't have to replace ".." with the exact directory, just leave the dots there and replace "crosshairname" with the name of the crosshair you want to use.
Also a great way to test all the crosshairs without having to always close the game, change the file, restart the game every time.

i added a bunch of crosshairs to a mod i found on gamebanana, you basically just drop the vpk file and the crosshair folder in custom and you can scroll through the crosshairs on the crosshairs options menu

Could you post the source of that gamebanana mod?

is there any way to fix the crosshairs not being able to be switched? I followed all your steps, where you go to scripts and such. I went to rocketlauncher.txt and changed "bigcross" to "seeker", but in game my crosshair just dissapeared. Any help would be appreciated.

did you spell it right?
did you install the crosshairs?
did you do cl_crosshair_file ""?
did you restart your game?
did you do crosshair 1?
did you do cl_crosshair_scale 20?

DocFlameis there a way to change them without needing to exit the game?

Though it has been a while since I've tried this I think switching between mat_antialias 0/1 works to reload if you do it like this:

-Do not change the weapon txt file. This is not reloaded with mat_antialias so any changes will only happen by restarting tf2
-Instead rename the current crosshair and rename the crosshair you want
-No need to change the vmt files, just need to replace the vtf

example: in txt file it says /thumbnails/crosshair1. But we want crosshair2 to become crosshair1
Rename crosshair1.vtf to crosshair1_old.vtf
Rename crosshair2.vtf to crosshair1.vtf
mat_antialias 0/1 in console, just make sure the value changes. Can change it back to the original value later
The command should lag your game a bit but then you'll have the new crosshair without having to restart

I believe this is a trick of hud editors as well to reload menus

CalskiHow to take off the outlines?

There's no command or something for that.
Only way would be to either find VTF files that don't have outlines and use those or to use this guide to remove the outlines manually yourself (it's really not hard, did it myself).

I made an attempt. This was literally just using selection tool on all the non-white pixels of one half and mirroring it. I have not been able to test it since it's getting pretty late here. Send me a pm if it's not working or doesn't look good in-game and I'll improve it (and I'll update the download link here as well for others who want it) :)

Proof that I should probably get some sleep. I initially accidentally made a konrwings without outline. Equally rushed but it's here if you want it. Same goes for this crosshair. Pokey__every time i try to edit the crosshair it does not work in the text files but all in all its a good pack. but how do i fix that

You'll have to be more specific. What exactly are you changing?
*If you change the txt file whilst in-game you need to restart TF2. No way to reload that without restarting.
*If you tried to edit a VTF file in paint.net, photoshop or gimp but the file isn't working correctly you might be doing a certain step wrong. Send me a PM if this is the problem and I'll either edit it for you or figure out the wrong step.
*If you tried to add a new crosshair in Thumbnails make sure you also make a VMT file for it (just open another VMT file in notepad. It's easy to figure out. You'll only have to change the crosshair name inside the file and Save As...)
*If you tried to replace a VTF file with another while in-game you'll need to do mat_antialias 0/1 (whichever makes it change values) to get the crosshair if you don't want to restart TF2

If you see the purple/black checkers it's most likely a typo related to the crosshair name in the VMT, VTF or txt file
