PLEASE USE IRC FOR SCRIMS

Ok so I just checked out the scrim.me website and immediately I was greeted with a thousand different buttons and all sorts of other unnecessary stuff. I would argue that irc is simpler than that, especially the webclients.

STOP TALKING ABOUT IRC PLEASE

Literally just log onto the TFTV discord server which already has a channel for scrims...
Don't want to go through the effort? It's literally just clicking the following link for an in-browser chat, and entering an alias.

https://discord.gg/0Smo0KLDcoUXjj9w

And if you want to at some point, you can download the dedicated client and / or make an account.

so does IRC?
https://client00.chat.mibbit.com/?server=irc.GeeksIRC.net&channel=%23tf2scrim
you don't even have to find the channel, it'll put you straight into it

I feel like discord is definitely a good alternative to IRC, but I feel like the North American community (for at least open) needs to agree on one way or just have every one on MULTIPLE platforms. I have lost count of how many times I have been canceled on for scrims with like 30+ leaders added and because people are already scrimming having to wait 30 minutes or more then getting a bad scrim or none at all. People in the UGC HL Community have done these neat little groups for the lower divisions (silver and under) where its a group where everyone has the ability to post announcements to ask for scrims, if we created one for open and Invited the leaders (this may be a challenge to do individually because of not everyone's ESEA profile linking directly to there steam) You have a means of getting alerts directly to your steam client.

But again, Please if you haven't already find a way to log on to IRC and have discord Up and running as well, it would be wonderful if we could maybe get all three running instead of everyone just arguing over which one is the best and which one we should use.

SamytsiOk so I just checked out the scrim.me website and immediately I was greeted with a thousand different buttons and all sorts of other unnecessary stuff. I would argue that irc is simpler than that, especially the webclients.

I do quite agree that scrim.me is very cluttered and I've only used it to get team leaders who have registered there team on the site and added them for scrims.

lucrativeif there was only a league that provided a scrim service for tf2!!!

I don't think that a lot of players are down with paying there premium fees year round, and although the scrim service does work and quite a large chunk of people in the cs community use it (including in CEVO/FaceIt). If people used it during the season it would be a very good way to get around the IRC/Discord/Lack Of scrims Issue. There is currently a ton of ways for people to get scrims, its a matter of the community getting on board and actually USING THEM.

TL;DR start using the stuff and we wont have issues, Steam group could be a good platform and everyone needs to be on-board

i feel like until we get an actual dedicated service that has login and autoconnect features and stuff like that its better not to split people between irc and discord (which is basically a nicer-looking irc)

Honestly, people should just use one place to schedule, so that it's easier to find scrims, and and stuff to where like double scheduling or booking doesn't happen.

CaydatorritMagikarpIRC wasn't really easy to usecare to explain?
to this day, i still think that irc is one of the most straightforward things to use

In my experience, many people struggle with the initial setup of IRC and the use of text commands. It's probably a little more involved than they are used to. Also, I think a lot of "How to setup IRC" tutorials are very lengthy/detailed, so there may be more perceived difficulty than actual difficulty.

That being said, people these days really just want to be able to put in a username and click a big green "Go" button. They don't want to worry about knowing commands or doing a bunch of extra stuff, which I think is totally fair. Simplicity is really nice.

Granted, there are clients for IRC that make it that simple. I like to use KiwiiIRC sometimes, it's pretty neat.

Quakenet irc (for tf.wars) has a gui web interface that lets you message people by clicking their names. Though this does take a bit of introducing and would probably still put some people off.

I still can't understand how irc is hard to set up; all you have to do is read and follow directions

how in the world could anyone say irc is one of the most straight-forward things they've used? and it doesn't matter how hard the set-up is; the fact that there are any hoops you have to jump through before actually asking for scrims is ludicrous when there are free programs like discord available to everyone. even though some of us might have irc set up or remember how to set it up because we've played tf2 for so long, doesn't mean the newer players care enough to google irc commands and set the client up just to type "mid- looking for scrim" into a text box. unless the community already uses this system (like eu tf2), it's probably pointless to push an outdated system onto newer players, especially if the game gets bigger during matchmaking

fatswimdudeits not like the community is small enough where you can tell when people are lying 90% of the time

Unfortunately the players that are getting lied to are low open players usually and usually low open players are new and usually new players don't know people in the community well enough to know who is lying and who is genuine.

This exactly. Kounter and Enigma should talk about making the TFTV discord channel official and maybe dividing #scrims into #scrims-na and #scrims-eu ? I feel like this would be the most efficient way to get everyone on board.

remember when we were downloading movies and shit through irc? now THAT was actually hard
setting a channel to connect to and a nickname for yourself? not so much, i think
if you think irc is a hassle to set up, then youre gonna be lost in the todays bureaucratic world mate, since shit is only gonna get more confusing and mind-boggling in real life than setting up your internet-relay circlejerk

yes torrit this is a very stimulating post. clearly, if people in the community do not want to take the time to set up their irc, they shouldn't even think about living life in any measurable way. don't want to set up irc? do not even attempt to get a job in anything. especially because as technology grows, things get harder to set up and have more hoops to jump through, right? in fact I think that's exactly how design works. remember guys, if you don't want to take the time to set up irc, do not even think about living life, because the real pioneers of the technology sector are making programs for users harder and harder to understand to punish the world for their ridiculous expectations of hassle-free setup and use. you are a steeple of knowledge and a shining light in our dark, scary teamfortress.tv

thank you lord torrit for being there for us!

Ok guys, here is the opportunity for the community to embrace something nice. Use the tftv discord, message all your regular scrim partners to use it as well. Message people that you used to scrim that are way better or worse than you now. Get everyone in there, and let's make scrims easier again.
