Valve fucks up, Pyro's flamethrower is broken

Player's ping affects flamethrower range. The higher the ping, the lower the range. Even such minor differences as 20 are noticable in a pyro on pyro duel.

isnt this how its always been
its not broken, this is how projectiles work in tf2, and making the flamethrower a non-projectile isnt possible/would be broken

now valve just has to add 200+ ping whenever someone spawns as pyro

It sort of has, took me a while to find out exactly what was causing the range differences. Still, even if it was like this for a while, it's broken as hell.

How else would they make the flamethrower work? If they made it hitscan, pyro would be even dumber and it's already the dumbest class in the game. This is like complaining that rockets are broken because they are harder to aim with 90 ping than they are with 20 ping.

Didn't Huey Lewis make a video explaining how Ping affects Pyro? I think he's deleted it now though.

Of course I knew ping affected projectiles. What I didn't figure out until recently is ping affecting projectile lifetimes, call me stupid all you want, I still find it dumber that barely any of you cares about a game breaking bug.

Nope, it was a different video, although this basically covers the same thing.

Its not a gamebreaking bug. Thats like saying an Ethiopian soldier with 700 ping can't hit rockets because they delay for a million seconds is a game breaking bug. Of course ping matters. Thats why having LAN finals is so important for tf2.

But it doesn't. net_fakelag doesn't work properly. It's pretty much exclusively meant for lag compensation testing, anything else is not guaranteed to be unaffected.

im a pyro main and i find it dumb that people who arent pyro mains and who understand how cripplingly stupid the class is dont give a shit when something works exactly how it should in a source engine game

if ~20+ ping is keeping u from killing people on pyro in tf2 im not sure how u manage to tie ur own shoes

We care about game breaking bugs. This isn't a game breaking bug. This isn't an issue unless you have 100+ ping, at which point all the other projectile classes become extremely hard to play.

Besides, any change that makes pyro better is a bad change.

Why are we ignoring that he brings up an extremely valid point? The flamethrower having shorter reach with higher ping is very stupid and very fixable and has nothing to do with how easy or hard the pyro or any other class is to play.

if you watch the video there is clearly something wrong

AyRIt's not that the range of the flame particles is reduced, it's that you're missing cos you aren't compensating for the higher ping enough (probably). Flamethrower range itself isn't affected but other things are

you didn't watch the video

yea i don't get why ping should affect how far a projectile travels (which the video clearly proves, he did not move at all, just pressed a bind)

hopefully net_fakelag is broken like somebody mentioned.

No, ping shouldn't affect projectile lifetime. That should be fixed if it is simple and doesn't break anything bigger.

No, this isn't gamebreaking. It barely affects anything.

Lets face it, if a bug like this happened on a 6v6 class the community would go nuts about how gamebreaking it is, because its pyro, nobody cares. I personally think that its not gamebreaking, but its also not a negligible bug either. Everyone is just underreacting because pyro, just like they would overreact if it was for example medic.

I think we are reacting appropriately because anyone who isn't retarded understands that higher ping = delayed projectiles.

If this is such a big issue you should consider not playing on servers where your ping is fuckballs high.
