High Rollers Gaming (16-0 -- 1st seed)

Roster

  • Shade (Medic)
  • Lansky (Pocket)
  • Taggerung (Roamer)
  • b4nny (Demoman)
  • Cyzer (Scout)
  • Shrugger (Scout)

Performances vs. LAN teams

  • Tri Hards: 5-3 W (Snakewater)
  • Tri Hards: 5-2 W (Granary)
  • Classic Mixup: 5-1 W (Badlands)
  • Apocalypse Gaming: 5-2 W (Process)

High Rollers Gaming has completed two perfect seasons. They kept the exact same six from the previous perfect run, only needing Ruwin for the first match of the season. Nothing has changed. With a win streak that's currently unbeaten at 35, will they be stopped?

Nice read but

And the best player in TF2? .b4nny

Not sure if you meant for the . to be there. Also Cyzer is maybe the 5th best scout on his team. Tops.

Edit: Also

the possibilities, the coutnermeasures.

being biased towards a team with a 40-0 game record so far, madness.

If you knew me, you'd know I'm quite sick of the perfect streak and I want it to end. They didn't do anything new for me to write about. What do I say? b4nny runs SR? Shade perma-Vaccinator? Everything is the same as it was last season, which makes it rather hard to write about the players.

Why should me knowing you affect how I read this?

As far as what you should write, it's really not my job to worry about that. I didn't complain about the lack of content so I'm not sure their roster staying the same is a valid retort.

All I was saying is that I'm annoyed by the dick riding going on and the lack of proofread.

At first glance, the conjunction of cyzer's self-proclamation and him proving himself over the past seasons implied to me that he was the best scout. Honestly I think there are many amazing scouts in Invite and I don't think anyone can confidently say which one is the best. It would have been better to approach cyzer's section like you approached clock's section. This may be a misunderstanding on my part.

You straight up say that banny is the best player. I think they are a few players that could take that title, and like I mentioned with cyzer, I'm not sure you can ever really determine who is the best player in a team game.

After stating that banny is the best player you go on to say that Lanksy can out damage banny without a problem. If a pocket is outdamaging the best demoman without a problem then surely he's the best pocket. All of the pockets competing at LAN are very good and implying that one is clearly the best is a mistake. You don't say that about Platinum in the mix^ review even though most would consider him to be the best pocket.

And of course, you state that shade is the best Medic. While I will agree with you here it'd be much better to tell me why he's the best. How he positions himself better than the other Medics or how he hitscan dodges like a boss instead of just flatly stating he milks the best and he trolls his team (I'm not sure what this means :<). Then you go on to talk about his ubers. Honestly, to me, you're implying that he innately has better ubers than other people, trivializing the amount of work he and his team do to get those later ubers. To say that he'll probably achieve a perfect game is, in my opinion, a silly prediction to make regardless of the player.

So when you say that 3 (4 if you want to count the cyzer part) of their players are so clearly the best, despite many other great players being at the LAN, it's a little disgusting honestly.

Also, I'm not sure why you're offering predictions on unlocks being used because this is a preview not a prediction.

In general this felt like it had too many inside jokes, too many best class proclamations, and not enough of how the teams plays or individuals play. I understand that writing this may have been more difficult for you than the others, but you do a good job of adding some fluff to those and I really don't see that effort in this one. I mean if I can write this much about your review surely you can write more or better about the actual team.

I'm not sure if this is a fair critique because I'm tackling you're review from the perspective of an Invite player and someone who wouldn't know much about Invite TF2, but I honestly think that you are missing or ignoring the subtleties of how some of these players play.

And in general it felt to me after the first read that you were riding their dicks really hard. After reading it through a couple more times I may have initially been tripped up because of the grammatical errors. I still feel that there is more dick riding in this preview than the other three combined.

honestly by reading this its hard to tell you actually play comp tf2

it just sounds like you played one pug with a guy who mightve played invite once and took everything he said as gospel

it doesnt hurt to ask around and get multiple opinions of players who played with/against these players before you write these articles

but most players (esp invite ones) see through the bullshit pretty clearly and its kind of a joke to throw this out as a "lan preview"

It's ok for invite players to measure each other's dicks and compete amongst them, but that doesn't change the facts.
If you do ask around almost everywhere outside of invite (which is just a small fraction of all of the competitive players) you will hear that b4nny is the best player in tf2, shade is the best medic, cyzer might or might not be the best scout and lansky is not likely the best pocket. And he didn't even mention that cyzer is the best scout rather that he has said so about himself. Also even though lansky might outdamage b4nny that doesn't mean that he is the best pocket, every experienced competitive player knows this, it's circumstantial.

To me this article didn't seemed biased at all and I rather felt like it pointed out what is obvious to expect from HRG going to lan.

edit: Terywj has been playing in esea at least for a year now to my little knowledge of him. He was also the author of several other articles from last season's lan teams that were positively criticized.

First of all my complaint wasn't to say that these players aren't some of the best players, it's just by confidently saying that they are the best discredits the other great players in this game. Honestly to deny that from some people is completely disrespectful.

I don't see how it's fact that banny is the best player on LAN. I mean if you are to go just by performances Platinum has been the best at both Demo and Soldier at some point. Surely, that would make him better player than banny who has only played one class (banny is very good at every class I'm just looking at league performance because we're talking about facts here right).

If you're saying it's fact that everyone thinks that he's the best then sure I'd agree with you. But it's articles like this that influence that opinion. There are a lot of good players in this game that don't get any credit because of this way of thinking. At any rate if there isn't clearly a best player I don't think you can justify writing as if their is one.

The cyzer complaint is more of a stylistic one. At first glance, conjunction of cyzer proving himself over the past seasons and his claim that he was the best implies that he is the best. But, I already admitted that was more of my own error.

The way he wrote about lanksy made it sound like he would outdamage banny the entire LAN. If a soldier outdamages the best demo then he is damn well the best soldier. Again, I think that was more of a stylistic error amplified by the danger of claiming someone the best player.

EDIT: I don't see how him playing ESEA has anything to do with how he writes this article. I'm not trying to kill the dude I'm trying to make his articles better. Also not sure how his past season articles are of relevance.

I've always like felt like HRG as a team does something weird to the individual players. The damage logs often seem off. I can watch b4nny wreck face for 30 minutes and then look at a log and see that lansky outdamaged him by 100 dmg/min. Not sure if it's just me, but I can understand that it's hard for Tery to comprehend all the data.

I will be first to tell you that I think this was the worst write up by far. I was busy all week, as well as horribly sick, not having time to tune into streams or play TF2. When Enigma asked me to write the previews, I wasn't really prepared. So I took time each week for AG, Mixup, Tri Hards, viewing streams, etc. etc. When I finished my write up I would have Enigma proofread before publishing. Each of those pieces took about three days each. For HRG, however, because I was busy and sick, I tried to cram everything on that Friday. I knew it was going to be rushed, I knew it was going to be bad. It is my fault for not asking Enigma to proofread this beforehand, but I was struggling to finish the write up and then just go to bed. I felt wrong if I only wrote about three teams. So I chose to write scrappily about the last one than only have three decent ones.

I'm by no means a good writer. Writing about competitive TF2 and Korean music has been my first serious foray into writing a lot on a consistent basis. Therefore I will make mistakes, and I'll make a lot of them. I understand all the points and critiques people have made and definitely accept them for the truth. I want to have a small network for future write ups where I can insert mini interviews with players to get their full opinions as the bulk of the content. Regardless, I'll try not to write in the future if I'm busy or rushed, and certainly not if I'm sick. So thank you, YouMustMike and the community. Your comments are very much appreciated.
