#4 Halo vs Cherry Switches in Hardware
pirate

The reason is that up until recently, the options were Cherry switches (bad) or cheap Chinese clones (worse). Since the patent expired, Cherry switches have been superseded by basically any other switch maker that cares to make one. The only reason to buy Cherry switches these days is blind brand loyalty, as the only switches they outperform are the absolute cheapest of the cheap Chinese clones.

I don't have any experience with Halo switches, but they can't possibly be as badbadnotgood as Cherry Sands, so I would recommend those, especially if they're not that much more expensive. In general I always recommend people avoid tactile switches unless you work in a cramped office with people on top of you, because there is no way to make a tactile switch that feels even half as good as a halfway decent (i.e. not Cherry) clicky switch, but to each his own.

If you want further recommendations: I have had fantastic experiences with Kailh switches, both their recently developed clickbar clicky switches and their linear switches. I've also been enjoying the crap out of my Wooting One for the past few months, which has optoelectric, non-contact-based switches, and they are the smoothest things I've ever had the pleasure to type on. They're far smoother than any linear, Cherry-derived switch I've used, including stuff like the NovelKeys Creams which claim to be self-lubricating. There are also a lot of other 'premium' keyboard makers that are coming out with optoelectric/Hall-effect keyboards that are far smoother than anything you can achieve with a contact-based switch. And finally, the best tactile switches you can get pretty much anywhere are going to be Topre switches, as they're a fundamentally different design from Cherry's (Dome-over-coil vs Plunger-in-box) that work much much better for silent, tactile applications.

#14 The future of competetive gaming. in TF2 General Discussion
dalenutechnically worst case travel time would be 65 ms cuz you only have to go halfway around the planet.

X2 because ping is how long it takes for your packet to get back to you from its destination. Considering this, we're already pretty close to the theoretical minimum that actual in-game ping could reach. Which makes sense because most of the actual backbone internet is fiber-optic (i.e. light speed) already, and you have to include processing time at either end + various intermediary points anyway. As a result, the need for intercontinental LANs will never go away, and ping from NA to EU will never get under ~100ms. Thanks Einstein.

"if she didn't wanna get in trouble for sending nudes to minors she shouldn't have sent those nudes to those minors". I honestly do not understand how people can still make this argument and not see how stupid they are.

the fact that the rule isn't a shadowrule doesn't make it good tho. also the fact that the version history of the rules isn't available on google docs is kinda odd ngl, but maybe it's just fuckery on google's end with public docs and shit, idk.

#64 Discussion: rgl is bad in TF2 General Discussion
DubThink

Out of curiosity, did the report contain a screenshot of the chat somehow? or was the report simply a link to the logs.tf page? and if the report was just link to the logs.tf page, would it not make sense to do some kind of follow up and ask for a screenshot or VOD from the scrim itself? This is a genuine question because right now it seems like there was just no due diligence done. Especially if the ban is going to result in potentially killing one of the few top-level teams, it seems like more effort should have been put in to verifying the information before the ban, rather than waiting until after the ban to find out if there is any extenuating circumstances. As someone who's been on the wrong end of the RGL ban hammer, I know that there at least used to be someone on the admin team that reviewed these bans and made exceptions for extenuating circumstances, is there a reason no such effort was put in for these bans?

I know that what you guys are doing is difficult and time consuming, but your methodology seems like it's at exactly the same level I would expect from an apathetic college student doing a project for a class he hates: in other words, the bare minimum. If you guys want people to stop bitching, stop giving them shit to bitch about. Make sure your shit is water-tight before you let it out into the wild. How many times are you guys gonna think something halfway through, put it out into the wild, and then walk it back when someone points out an obvious mistake you guys have made because you didn't do any due-diligence? How many "we made a mistake" posts are you gonna make before someone steps up and says "we are done with these fuck-ups. TF2 deserves a league with enough respect for its players to put in more than the bare minimum of effort."

If you wanna know why nobody respects you and nobody wants to sponsor you, that's your reason. It's not players saying slurs in what should be unmoderated environs, it's the fact that you keep fucking up and letting TFTV bitch-fits make you walk back on your mistakes. We're what, halfway through the season? and we're already at two "we're sowwy" posts for the season, and I've lost track of how many goofs ya'll have made since ESEA died, let alone before then (FROYO banned for winning too much lol). I mean how much of a joke do you guys have to become before some actual institutional changes get made?

#19 Discussion: rgl is bad in TF2 General Discussion
aboOodrandyw the problem is rgl is concerned with creating an online safe space rather than a competitive gaming league. they appoint weirdos to mod/admin that are not representative of the playerbase at all. the game is too small to be profitable, so therefore the game should belong to the community, not redditors (exa, sigafoo, makka, etc) that are trying to make the game "sponsor friendly".
is it really that hard to create both a safe space and a competitive gaming league? a competitive gaming league doesn't have to be filled with slurs, but at the same time you shouldn't ban an invite team for using slurs in a map review. Why not just use a few warnings before banning people? wouldn't that just solve most of the problems relating to behavior, or am i over simplifying?

you have correctly identified the problem with rgl
