#25 ESEA EU in TF2 General Discussion

I mean to say there were too many matches a week between ETF2L and ESEA is one of the largest cop outs I've ever heard. CS players play so many more games than that a week and almost all the games are competitive. Many ETF2L matches, along with ESEA matches are very one-sided and therefore not very mentally draining. Or at the very least, they shouldn't be. Scheduling conflicts between a mere 2 leagues is like elementary school planning. We played CEVO and ESEA when they were both primary NA leagues and there really wasn't a big problem.

I also think the way TF2 people scrim 1 or 2 maps until they break a sweat and then play officials on the same two maps is such a bad way to improve, but also a bad way to gauge skill. Honestly, every week's matches against X and Y team should happen on a veto system for maps in the same way CS does. If your goal is to compete in finals or at LAN, that's the format used. It's best to practice something that's useful, like adapting on the fly and being ready for any map, instead of grinding the same map for 3 days straight until you have a shortlived mastery of it, and promptly it's forgotten until the next time it's played.

#82 Froyotech = Death of tf2? in TF2 General Discussion

how to not improve: complain that the top team is too good and do nothing in your power to download an STV demo and watch how they play.

the idea that we "hit more shots than other people" and that's why we win is not the whole truth. obviously DM plays a role in how good a team is, but lower-ranked invite teams thinking they're just as smart or innovative as we are on the fly is ridiculous. the reason mixup was even good in the first place is they were smart players who could adapt to situations, in the same way we can. listening to people from other invite teams saying we win because I run around killing everything is crnigey because lets me know they think they have huge TF2 brains when they make mistake after mistake allowing us to just start steamrolling. also half of DM in real games is situational. i'm pretty sure banny is topdamaging over every other scout in the league. i guess it's because his DM is just the best now, not mine? I dunno it's pretty easy to get better if you put your egos aside and just watch how people play. Half of my scout skill comes from watching pov demos of wltrs and enigma and knowing when I could catch players out of position.

it's really not that hard to get better at the game. not many hours are required if you put the time into scrimming to get better and deathmatching for an hour a day instead of CS for 3. an essay doesn't take long to write if you dedicate your time to writing it, but it can take a whole day if you spend half the time on reddit

#26 FOV in TF2 General Discussion

You already have over 100 fov in TF2 with a 16:9 ratio. I don't understand the issue. The more fov you add, the easier it is to see someone flanking you and takes the element of timely flanks completely out of the equation. If you had 100 fov in settings with a 16:9 ratio I'm sure medics could find really stupid visual angles to see basically everything that's trying to flank your team, spies included.

RainmanDaggerI really appreciate the effort but
"Hey this looks like a great place to put like 50 tires."

Mid is just not aesthetically pleasing atm.

? lol i mean there are tires all over the map aren't there? it doesn't look out of place at all and the map isn't aesthetically pleasing to begin with. obviously i've never tried a middle like this but it doesn't look that bad at all. granary mid isn't even good to begin with. at least tires like that could entice a medic to actually stay in middle to survive instead of running away or getting trapped in a corner

#19 Logitech no longer replacing g400s in Hardware

My biggest gripe with logitech has always been the random buttons they throw all over their mice

I wanted to try the 402 but i saw the scope dpi button on the side of the mouse and i decided it was the dumbest thing i've ever seen so i bought something else instead

#18 Is bhop worth learning? in Q/A Help

I don't really understand this whole "worth it" argument. You bind a movement to mousewheel and you spin it. It's something you can learn so organically in TF2, because it's something you can just do on your way to somewhere as sniper or medic when you're bored. Literally every aspect of a competitive game that gives you any edge is worth it. Unless you have no timing mechanics whatsoever and can't move your fingers normally, it's worth it to learn bhopping. It can honestly get you out of some situations, especially as medic or sniper when you're going down a slope.

It's not hard to learn, and honestly it's fun. Especially if you try to learn the timing in css bhop maps. It's entirely up to you whether or not you'll think it's fun enough to spend time doing. But the time you spend doing it isn't mutually exclusive from practicing the other aspects of the game. If you had to go into modded servers to learn, or use a script that didn't work on ESEA, of course it wouldn't be worth it. However, neither are necessary.

In other words, if you want to be the best, you should consider everything to be worth it, especially if it doesn't detract from you learning other elements.
