#6 Tips for switching from roamer to hl soldier? in Q/A Help

I've barely played highlander but it always seems easier to pick off flank players like scouts and spies and take out sentries. Also if you can get behind picking snipers that are out of position often seems better than going for forces on meds because you have a minigun and airblasts to contend with and highlander ubers seem to be harder to do things with anyway.

#23 Why are all the TF2 league sites shit except UGC? in TF2 General Discussion

ETF2L seems at least more logical/functional than UGC, mainly seems to have layout issues. I'd say the most difficult part of navigating etf2l is managing stuff to do with your own team, making recruitment posts etc. Just browsing the website and finding people's profiles/matchpages etc is easy enough to do which is more than can be said for ESEA/UGC most of the time.
The number of times I've had to explain to people how to put up a recruitment post is more than you'd expect though. It really is a barrier to entry.

#44 Opinions on push-to-talk in TF2 General Discussion

The best of both worlds is to set up a button where pressing it toggles activation or not a bit like toggling mute. That way you aren't transmitting constantly and don't have to be holding down a button when talking.

#13 solids in The Dumpster

I'm a large fan of Clinojimthompsonite due to it being a triple chain silicate (crazy I know right?), the fact that it was predicted before it was discovered and because its only found in 4 outcrops scattered across Japan, the Scottish Highlands near Assynt and in Vermont. If you ever notice your amphiboles have cleavage angles of 38 as opposed to 56 degrees you may have discovered some. Exciting stuff!

#17 Flow State, a first person skating game I'm making in Off Topic

This vid made me feel a little motion sick when you looked at your own feet. I don't normally get any motion sickness from fps games but I guess its having the board down there or something? If its just me then I guess thats fine but if its feedback you get enough of you might need to try some stuff to fix that.

#205 TF2 Legacy videos, round 2! in Videos

It's been suggested a couple of times earlier in the thread but retsh0ck seems like a good candidate for one of these, don't know if you've got enough frags though.

#11 Why do people bitch about tf2's hit reg? in TF2 General Discussion

I would post it but don't know where to find the video. There's a vid called "ok" somewhere where a guy manages to hit someone with a direct rocket that doesn't register.
90% of the time I find hitreg is fine at low ping, and I'd rather people be missing than be getting hit behind walls by people because they have high ping all the time.

#114 Serpents qualifies for DreamHack Summer in News

I don't know that people are that worried about playing in the cups because of skill variance. The amount of variance in a regular etf2l tier is high enough.

I think the problem is that these cups are on weekends when there's scheduling issues and teams are already burnt out from playing pcws all week. I think you'd see a much larger signup if you actually pushed these cups to Monday/Tuesday. I realise there's the potential for people to have officials on these dates but almost nobody has an official on these days and I think teams would much rather play cups as an alternative to pcws as opposed to as well as. This is a bit worse for the prem teams if they have an official later in the week, but prem teams often schedule officials for Sundays, so it's not necessarily.

The other main issue is I think that a significant number of lower level european players don't seem to browse tftv. Might be a sampling bias thing because I know more european players in general, but the number of EU flags from players I don't know of compared to the number of US/Canada flags from players I don't know of is pretty significant. It's probably worth sideshow or someone whoring the shit out of cups when he streams because people will probably realise that they're happening more readily than just putting it on tftv. :/

#19 the soldier screen shake thing in Q/A Help

The reason for this is because when a player is moving quickly, with hitscan you normally want to leave your mouse on someone and stop it there, with a projectile you're leading someone's movement, and if that someone is moving fast e.g. in an airshot you're normally going to quickly move your mouse past where you think they're going to go.

Because you don't need to be pixel perfect or anything with projectiles, people often aim by flicking and click when they think the shot is going to be where the person goes. With a really fast movement like that, they often then overshoot and bring their mouse back to the position it was in. This becomes muscle memory after a while so it's why you see people flick over someone and then back after a shot lands.
