There was actually a choice and people chose RGL despite the warnings from many people. Dont pretend that RGL was just forced onto people and it was the only option we had post ESEA.

Originally its was because ESEA and lan meant something, so being able to beat b4nny actually had a purpose. But as time went on people kinda just got sucked into the b4nny vortex of how we "should" play the game because he is the best and just kinda followed what he did even if it was really stupid. Most people in NA just want to play the game, not actually put effort into fixing shit or changing anything, so even if b4nnys ideas are stupid and misguided people will follow anyways because at least they are ideas.

No, you can quite easily, especially if you want to get into the technicals of audio bitrate and recording capability. Mumble and discord literally use the exact same codec, but discord limits the bitrate that you can send/receive at whereas mumble does not and it is dependent on the server you set up.

Twitch has been hardcore trying to lockdown adblock for a few months now and as far as I know its a constant arms race day by day for if things work or not.
