Ash_SpaceCadetI was speaking to the larger issue of encouraging newer players to use voice comms in a competitive setting. IMO, if the goal is to get more people into comp, it would be good to encourage using voice comms via one system or another be it in-game or external. Right now, there is nothing in place.
The easiest way to encourage people to use ingame voice comms is to lead by example.

I don't run FaceIT

If I did, a voice comm system would be highly encouraged for every player adding up for pugs.

I am not saying the systems are not already in place.
I am not saying experienced players can't go out of their way to try and organize their teams comms in pugs.
I am saying that the pug system offered by FaceIT should try and encourage new players to use voice comms in some way.
It will offer a much better pug experience and a more accurate competitive TF atmosphere for new players. Some pugs on FaceIT have felt like Valve MatchMaking because of no voice comms and they certainly don't want that.

In the end, this is just one mans opinion. FaceIT might not care about voice comms at all, so none of it probably matters. Either way, I still enjoy the pugs.

b4nnySpaceCadetI have my in-game voice disabled and I am pretty sure I did that years ago because it was push-to-talk only and I use voice activation for my headset. I never really kept track to know if this changed or if it is still the same.Pretty much exactly what I suspected. I don't think it's fair to have issue with lack of communication when you are neither listening to nor contributing to team comms.

I wasn't referring to myself in any way. I hear the in-game comms perfectly but I will not use push-to-talk because it effects how I play.

#14 FACEIT Solo Queue Cup - Thursday 12/22 in TF2 General Discussion

quick question. As the tournament progresses, what happens if 1 player on your solo que team decides to leave mid tournament like after the 1st round or something? Do you get a replacement player or are you just screwed?

CapuThey also probably want to use in-game voice communication because they can review possible reports (insults, harassing, etc), since they're recorded in the STV demos.

That is a nice thought but you can't force anyone to use in-game voice comms either. If this ever takes off as a real popular pug system, the higher level players are probably just going to have ppl join their mumble channels while the map picking process is taking place or in pre-game.

avaiihndoes ingame voice have really low input and output volume for anyone else? I have both turned all the way up but i can barely understand anyone and nobody can really understand me.

This is the biggest issue I have with the FaceIT pugs at this time and the only negative I can mention about the service that they can control/improve.

I believe the quality of pugs would increase significantly if all players were forced (motivated) to join the same voice program before the pug begins. Organizing this in-game with the 5 other guys has been difficult at best. Having voice would allow more experienced players to lead the way and for newer players to have a better chance at learning and getting a feel for competitive.

The setup pugchamp employs is extremely efficient and helpful. FaceIT should mirror that system or have something similar. When the server is setup, the launch window could also have an option to connect with a chosen voice program.

Wouldn't the quality of the pugs increase once more people actually play and gain levels with the faceit rankings?
Right now mostly everyone is like level 3 but as you win, your rankings goes up over time.

Maybe I don't understand how the ranking system works but if say 40 added up, wouldn't the system match teams based off the faceit rankings?

#6 keyboards in TF2 General Discussion

I use Corsair Vengeance - Compact Keyboard.

Price is good at $60. It has out performed and out lasted my last 2 keyboards. I have nothing bad to say about this purchase.

2 nice features I enjoy about this model are the ease of cleaning and the secure connections. If you look at how the keyboard is made, you will not get little particles stuck inside your keyboard. A quick blast of compressed air and the whole thing should be completely clean. Other keyboards, with covers, trap loose particles and small objects until you take it apart and do a full cleaning.

As for the connections, the wire going into the keyboard is secured to the keyboard itself and is very tight. Compared to something like a Razer, where the cord just stands alone by itself and is not secure at all. Over time and use, that connection will become loose and can cause problems. This is exactly what happened to me with my last keyboard.
