#20 Using a 120hz monitor on a t440p laptop in Q/A Help
DecapotatoThere is no input lag.

Unless that thing can reverse time there is.
That doesn't mean you can tell. It's always hilarious when people claim they can feel the difference between a monitor with 1ms input lag and 2ms input lag. The whole chain from mouse/keyboard to the monitor takes >30ms.

If it's a good adapter it shouldn't be worse than 60Hz and it looks smoother than 60Hz.

Which FX series? There's two. One that crushed Intel and one that got crushed.

Compare the 6900K and the 7700K. Not working out in favour of the 6900K in single threaded either.

1800X vs 6900K would be a difficult choice if they were the same price. At half the price it isn't.
Same with the 1700(X) and the 6800K/6850K. At least the 6900K overclocks better than Zen, but even with that the 6800K/6850K don't really have a chance against 2 more (33% more) cores. That would have to be one hell of an overclock.

Single threaded nothing is going to beat the 7700K. Zen gets stuck at 4.0-4.1 GHz. Skylake-X (new 6-10 cores) most likely isnt't going to either.
So the 7700K, 7600K and 7350K are unreachable in ST. But what about stuff like the 7500? All Zen CPUs are unlocked and even with the stock cooler 4.0 GHz are doable. So as long as AMD releases a Quad Core <200$ and a Quad Core with SMT <300$ it's not looking too bad.
Crushing in MT and only losing to a handful of models ST seems pretty good, especially with these prices.

Skylake-X hasn't been released yet so we don't know how that will stack up.

BIOS are still a bit buggy which is costing Zen quite a bit of performance in anything latency bound (games).

We'll know more in late Q2.
It seems pretty even so far.

I linked the AB350 (non-M), just so you see the price.
The AB350M should be 5-10$ cheaper and allows for a mATX case (a bit cheaper as well).
AMD confirmed ECC and ASRock confirmed ECC as well.
http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/AB350M%20Pro4/index.asp#Specification
The traces should be there, but the option to enable it might not be implemented in the BIOS yet, since the BIOS have all been very late and a bit messy.
The stock cooler is good enough to push it to 4.0-4.1, after that Zen hits a wall no matter what (unless LN2 + lots of voltage).
I doubt PCM will actually make you pay 15$ for shipping twice, but I don't know how long that deal will last and 70$ is a normal price for 8GB DDR4 ECC. https://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007952%20601190338%20600006161%20601275453&IsNodeId=1&bop=And&Order=PRICE&PageSize=36
1060 6GB is the best case scenario, if anything else ends up more expensive a 1060 3GB will have to do.

In case I forgot about anyone who wanted a Zen build, mobo reviews should happen soon and then I'll start doing part lists. Just post again here.

THEBILLDOZERI'm running a 950 at 1440p, all low settings and averaging 70 fps
Edit: 900p
edit edit: im retarded. i looked into some others tuff and now im at 180 frames avg

And it's fixed for 0$.
Time to spend that money you saved on a 144 Hz monitor I guess?

Well are you getting >100 fps on low? Otherwise something else is wrong.

#2198
I feel like benchmarks tell me he shouldn't upgrade that first.

CPU should be just about enough, overclock it a bit if you can.
On low you should be getting >100 fps. What settings do you want to use?
You'll definitely need a new GPU.

#2195
Haven't benchmarked it but I guess somewhere in the ballpark of an i3 with the same clockrate.
So basically the same as any other CPU with more than 3 threads. I wouldn't buy it for the TF2 performance, but it's not bad. Even the 1700 ocs to 4.0 with the stock cooler so that's nice.

Could be 11 series though. If it happens in 2017 it would be just rebrands though.
Volta not before 2018.

Zen, because I'm pretty sure it will still exist later this year.

Yes, I mean don't forget that there are other options than SKL-X.
Vega should be released before SKL-X and unless something goes horribly wrong there will be price drops.

Yes, the 1070 will work.
I'd recommend holding off if you can because price drops.
It doesn't have to be the successor to the 6800K. We know neither prices nor core count nor clockrates nor IPC (because SKL-X is quite different from SKL).

I'm assuming you'd benefit from more cores then? Zen is a thing now. 330$ for 8 cores > 410$ for 6 cores.
Obviously waiting for SKL-X doesn't hurt.

Vega will also be a thing by that time so you may or may not regret the 1070.

You know about the whole EVGA 1070/1080 VRMs catching fire/exploding?

Your current PSU would be fin. 650W is definitely overkill though.
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/DPCwrH/seasonic-power-supply-ssr550rm
And that's just because it's cheaper than the 450W atm.
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/sMM323/evga-supernova-g3-550w-80-gold-certified-fully-modular-atx-power-supply-220-g3-0550
If you insist.

I'm not going to explain bottlenecking again. Depends on the game. In TF2 your CPU is already the bottleneck.

What do you mean "wait until you have nough to buy every part"?

It is not.
Outputs on laptops are generally routed either through the iGPU or through a switch.
Then there's all the other usual laptop shenanigans.

So far it seems like Zen doesn't really OC beyond 4.1.
However that combined with a pretty good stock cooler means you can actually get the 1700 to 4.0-4.1. Sure, not as high as Broadwell-E can go, but anything multithreaded the 6800K and 6850K still get shit on thanks to the 2 additional cores.
6900K wins in some benchmarks, loses in others. Wins in a few more oc'd vs oc'd. Including mobo/cooler for oc costs 4 times as much. 6950X should be faster but costs >5 times as much, everything included, unless you don't oc but then the lower clockrate eats up the higher core count.

#2179
Depends on why you're upgrading.
Also check if your PSU got 6/8 pin connectors for a GPU.
RX 480 is a thing.
