#34 The current state of newbie mixes in TF2 General Discussion

yeah I don't like playing because it forces the coaches to essentially be final bosses, or you drive the boat entirely while everybody else just kinda spectates. Generally, the best way to learn is to drive yourself as opposed to watching somebody else - it's not like anybody is going to remember any of the calls you make in games or understand the circumstances that required that call if they're a true noobie anyways and you're trying to play effectively.

Just don't get yourselves magic banned like novice did in s12 by somehow loading bots onto the server and all will be well ;) .

#32 The current state of newbie mixes in TF2 General Discussion

I've never truly understood why people on UGC teams with UGC experience show up. At that point it seems like hoping for free mentoring. They're already on teams that are ostensibly scrimming and competing - and it makes true newbies really difficult to manage in my experience - especially if you get a true noobie on medic or demo, your newbie mix pug is going to be a disaster for a sizable amount of time if you've got folks on the opposite end who are on teams.

Having the coaches simply watch was a definite improvement. The last time I was in - a few weeks ago, I had plenty of fun. I just don't find myself at home very often on Fridays.

If you're on a UGC team and you think you need help, I'm happy to provide, it's not like I'll be doing anything any week night for the next several months.

#5 As a pocket, when should I leave my medic? in TF2 General Discussion

It's all situational man.

But the general rule of thumb is you should only leave your medic when he's got a scout around him - or maybe on very special occasions with your demo.

The only other time it's really a good decision is if you *have* to die to keep him alive. Then tell him to run.

Ideally as pocket you'll extend, during which times a scout or somebody takes some heals, and then retract for more heals, or extend, and then never be seen again. The not being seen again will only work if your med has people with him.

With the exception of mids. If your medic is healing you at mid and you're not the best soldier to ever play the game he/she's wasting his/her time.

#29 NBA season starts in Off Topic

I haven't watched pro-ball since reggie miller retired - really impressed with what they've done with the NBA - funny that it almost 1/2 assed resembles basketball now (I've even seen a few travelling calls - HOLY SHIT that *never* used to happen).

#18 Hardcore - The World's First Action P.O.V. Film in Off Topic

Uh... Ok, I've seen better action sequences out of youtubers... It looks like they CGI'd in the muzzle flash a few times at least (but it may just be a camera perspective thing - or they used a digital camera).

What a catastrophe.

I'll hook you up in a little bit - I have laryngitis so I'm having trouble talking, but once this sorts itself I'll get that made :D

#22 a big thank you in TF2 General Discussion

I was happy with what I heard outta' most folks. I mainly only watched the first day of GXL and the latter stages of day #2, but casting so many games in such a setting likely did a lot for your confidence lol.

Anybody complaining about casts in the last 1-2 years really ought to have been around when twitch casting was just getting going - there have been some truly cringe worthy casts, but those mostly stopped happening a *long* time ago and most of the people involved are long gone lol.

The other big thing for a caster is the kind of rapport you have with your co-caster I imagine GXL prolly helped that a bunch since you had a live person setting next to you and *most* of the folks who cast were there.

#75 Interests? in Off Topic

The rough draft was do the last month of senior year. Thus, I waited until the weekend before to write a rough draft. The final paper was due the last day of classes, then the following week we all met at a profs house and got drunk (those of us whose theses were approved).

#7 Open and IM Playoff Casts in TF2 General Discussion

@flatline I don't have any particular plan, so far I've just been casting games that had decent looking scores. I will likely continue that policy going forward should no other games end up getting cast by any actual casting orgs - my upload is so dismally small that I can't handle live casting or casting tons of games (because each such cast takes ~8-10 hours to upload).

I will fix that :D Also good good - no reason not to be casting some of these games in a more public setting.

#1 Open and IM Playoff Casts in TF2 General Discussion

Since they aren't being covered anywhere else I've decided to crappily cast several of the closer games from this season's ESEA playoffs - don't expect miracles on camera, and I'm solo casting these ATM. I should also note I did very little research on the players/teams I didn't know already:

O, DDD Vs American Jerks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L2h9TExVSR0&list=UUyTtw_807P3-mQW-gjADPhg

IM, Yomies Vs. Balls: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_M0jskOiOQ&list=UUyTtw_807P3-mQW-gjADPhg

O, Offtop Vs No Johns: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9sAMfOYADU&list=UUyTtw_807P3-mQW-gjADPhg

O, Kawaii 5-0 Vs. Air Heads: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujCV1SUj1d0&list=UUyTtw_807P3-mQW-gjADPhg

O, Sparkle Bunnies Vs. American Jerks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GsSM7uF0cQ0&list=UUyTtw_807P3-mQW-gjADPhg

O, Pinoy Boys Vs. Hotel Moskau: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5ugG7j20M0&list=UUyTtw_807P3-mQW-gjADPhg

I will keep making these until they are properly covered, that is a threat.
