#54 congrats to cinq and #tf2mix in TF2 General Discussion
defytf2 center basically replaced lobbies, tf2center still serves for players that are really new to 6s so its not splitting us its more of a stepping stone, new players in mix come from tf2center/lobbies etc...they start in that and eventually make the jump to play with people who are more experienced.

Honestly this probably doesn't happen that often. TF2center 6s is a shitshow. People don't go into mumble, and off-classing lobby stomping is rampant. If that's your first time playing 6s you won't go "wow, that could have been fun if I was better" you'll say "these people are assholes and their game is stupid." When I started I had to start in TF2lobby and the only reason I stayed is because I had already been watching a lot of 6s and I was curious where I could play a game that didn't devolve into demos off-classing to huntsman sniper.

The only benefit to TF2center 6s is ease of use, or in rare cases people using it to set up their own inhouse games. Beyond that it probably does more harm than good for growth of the 6s community.

The best place to start is probably inhouse pugs. People there tend to all be on the same page and fixing/kicking a problem player is pretty easy. It retains the picking system so teams hopefully are balanced and it keeps the envornment friendly which you need to retain a new player. From there you should probably have a decent time, even if you suck. From there you should jup to tf2mix or scrims/low-level team play.

#8 ABS vs PBT keys (keyboard) in Hardware

Personally, I find backlighting to be cool, but not as cool as you would think. When I got my first keyboard I really wanted it backlit, but at the time there were no good options in my price range. later, I got my nephew a Ducky Shine for his birthday and got him it backlit and when he set it up I was just underwhelmed.

Now as for PBT v. ABS I am incredibly happy with my PBT set. I have what is reported to be slightly-smooter than average PBT (Leopold Cherry profile set), and it feels great. It has a very slight texture that feels nice and they are just a little more solid. Another benefit for me is they don't hold dirt/grease as noticeably as ABS plastic. What had always bothered me with ABS was that after a few hours of gaming you could see where my fingers had been on my WASD keys and I would feel compelled to clean them all the time. The buildup still happens on PBT but much less so and I can't notice anything till it's been a few days to a week.

That all said, if you really want backlighting you can buy keycaps later that are PBT. A set like this. If you eventually want both things it makes most sense to buy a backlit keyboard first and buy your keycaps later.

I haven't had POM plastic yet but people really love it, and they are double shot so they should last forever. You might not really notice the POM part of the keys though because I assume they are just for the lettering.

#10 fix my mumble overlay = free strange machina in Hardware

From my experience Mumble is one of the few programs that functions differently between Windows 7 and 8. Do you have windows 8? If so you might have to change out a dll or something in the Mumble but I can't quite remember what my old problem was or how I fixed it. Sorry.

You should try and see if it works in other games just to have another baseline.

#123 REAL Ultiduo Tournament 2014 in TF2 General Discussion

So I am not really in the mood to read through 5 pages of posts and forum searches tend to be incredibly horrible. I'm thinking since you are going to have this span many weeks why not use both baloo and ultiduo as maps? It might be interesting to start off with baloo for the first few weeks and then have the second half of the tournament go to a more strategy oriented map (OG ultiduo).

#77 OFFICIAL DREAMHACK WINTER THREAD in CSGO General Discussion
rQwireLDLC is the only remaining French team out of the 3, things are not looking good. Man at this point don't know who to trust anymore, JW from fnatic is looking pretty sketchy :/

So had KQLY not been VAC banned I would have said "some of his shots can be chalked up to 16-tick GOTV demos and luck" but his VAC ban makes me question some of the shots he's been shown to have pulled off.

It's also making me be alittle suspicious of olofmeister, especially over this play. It still suffers from the 16-tick problem but it is must still look pretty insane at 128 tick.

http://fragbite.se/fragtv/video/1952/olofm-vs-navi

jw wouldn't surprise me either since he played on a team that was disqualified before for hacking, and probably hacked himself in the past.

#22 Ninox Aurora on Massdrop in Hardware

Does anyone know what sensor it uses? I was under the impression that the 2 most accurate sensors at the moment were the 3310 (Rival/FK1) and 3366(Logitech G502). if it isn't one of these 2 sensors does anyone have any idea how it stacks up against them?

Nevermind. I found the sensor it uses. Pixart ADNS-3090

Now I just need to see how it stacks up against the 3310 and 3366.

#99 Demoman Discussion Video in Videos
AvastWhy is this always a race to the bottom for everything???

Sniper has existed in some form or another in literally every FPS yet now the simple fact of someone having good aim is overpowered because "my favorite class that refelcts all projectiles/builds things that aim for me can't kill him 24/7".

Yeah the sniper class exists, yeah good aim exists, you have to plan accordingly instead of just gimping every class that presents a modicum of effort to counter when it has a million weaknesses to exploit.

I will say though that taking away the ability for snipers to charge shots would make them less annoying. It should solely be based on aim and not the ability to stare at a wall charging a shot until you can peek one shot a medic.

A little late in responding to this one, especially in a demo focused thread.

That said, the thing about sniper is in TF2 you can't deal with him at range. The only way to balance him with current mechanics is making it impossible for him to get ridiculous sightlines and map makers often fail at this. It takes a long time to make a sniper work on a TF2 map. Basically every other FPS allows you to actually kill a sniper at range, but they have an advantage. In TF2 you can only tickle him with some damage if he refuses to move at all.

#168 Player skill rating added to the game in TF2 General Discussion
twenty2020DeetrAs far as 6s offclassing, they could only allow offclassing if a certain number of people on your team agree. Seeing as it is actually Valve and not some third party they could easily implement something easy to use (1 key to let your teammate offclass, another to choose Pyro, Heavy, Sniper, or Spy). Also just lock the Pocket, Demo, and Medic to their classes.

They could also allow offclassing in ranked games of a certain skill level where people (presumably) need to be pretty decent to get to the level (like a mid IM equivalent) and just let them offclass whenever because if you are that rank you probably know what you are doing and aren't trolling.

Also voice communication in game is pretty laggy, probably not ideal for something like 6s.

I disagree, let them offclass all they want

if they're dumb about it they'll be deranked and be playing with other really shitty players who offclass a lot

if youre at a level where your team has 2 pyros then the other team is probably shit as well

its like counterstrike doesnt have to force people to not buy 5 negevs, it works itself out through the ranking system

Just because someone is bad doesn't mean they want to play in a shitfest.

#144 Player skill rating added to the game in TF2 General Discussion

If they implement a 6s system (which they probably won't because it doesn't cater to all 9 classes very well) they could limit off-classing to 1. Have people queue up beforehand to their desired class and force them to play that class, or allow 1 person on the team at a time to off-class. It might help keep matchmaking from turning in TF2center/lobby 6s which is a horrible combination of people who suck at 6s, and people who are way above TF2center skill playing huntsman sniper instead of demo because their opponents are nowhere near their level.

#4 Interp by weapon in Customization

They patched this awhile ago because people were abusing it to set their interps REALLY high which effectively caused models to freeze for a second making it much easier to hit your hitscan shots. Now it only allows you to change your interp as you select a class.
