#1 LF Demo Mentor in Mentoring

So my team often swaps me between playing pocket or playing demo, but I think our best bet is if I play demo and get better at it.

I believe I'm currently at a mid-open level and my DM could definitely improve, but I need help breaking soldier habits and trying to pad that damage stat (especially with new stickies). I also know I need help with midfights.

I'm hoping to get someone in mid IM+ to help me go over some demos and maps and really help me refine my game.

#7 PUG groups that are active? in TF2 General Discussion

Avoid Nasty PUGs like the plague. Good Gaming generally has cool enough people playing, but the skill level is definitely a bit lower. Lately it looks like ESEA PUGs have been happening thanks to b4nny and sezco hosting them every night (but later at night). I played Blaze PUGs and it was okay until the end. The first few games were good, but then 2 guys decided to ruin the last set of pugs by turning it into an offclass shitfest.

#7 Need a new keyboard in Hardware
ddrsensationANDYYYYYYYI just bought a k65 and im pretty happy with it
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823816015

Especially if you haven't used a mechanical keyboard before, the K65 is a really well built keyboard, and 80 bucks is a great price on it compared to other keyboards of similar pricing.

The K65 has retarded key sizes. It has a large control, small win. key, and large spacebar. This will make it practically impossible to get replacement keycaps for.

Imo, avoid gaming brands. They're generally just full of silly gimmicks.

#5 Trailer: Beyond the Hats (TF2 Documentary) in TF2 General Discussion
sleeepyI don't understand why everyone feels it's necessary to mention "with no developer support" every time they talk about TF2. You guys do realize that the 2 greatest esports of all time, SC:BW and CS 1.6, had absolutely no developer support. Please stop thinking that the only reason TF2 isn't a huge esport is because Valve didn't try to make it one.

The landscape has changed. BW and 1.6 are essentially dead. They had a great run, and new games with the developers behind them came in and replaced them. Developer support seems required now to be big.

#27 Transparent Viewmodels in any HUD in Customization
JarateKingWithADanceNumberwell those custom materials that are used. what if someone uses world model ones that have a property that shows through walls or something? IDK if thats even possible but i mean these are pretty impressive. The material used is just a simple texture that by luck will get rid of viewmodels (and hud elements but that's not really relevant here). It's not possible, unless there's some really trippy shader that I don't know about.
DreamerDoes anyone know why bleeding causes the viewmodel to no longer be transparent? It also causes motion blur on every tick of bleeding. It doesn't seem to affect ubers, regular damage, or fire damage. Just bleeding. The bleed overlay is a refract material that the game's set up to also refract viewmodels.

I don't know of any proper fix but I just disable them entirely with clean tf2's _misc_removal.vpk.

Okay I did this and it works. Thanks. It still causes the viewmodel to not be transparent when you bleed, but removing that blur is very nice.

KoobadoobsDreamerKoobadoobsSmobo, Terry Crews, and I are the new admins. I don't use tf.tv much, but I think we are pretty recognizable in the UGC community. Anyway, the difference is that previously UGC allocated basically one admin to 6s, and now there are at least four dedicated to improving it. We're not just going to be sitting around doing nothing like the previous poster implied.
Do you have any plans to change the whitelist to be 100% inline with ESEA? The quickfix is broken.
We have not made any final decisions yet. There may be a poll similar to the current HL poll to address maps and weapons.

Alright. Also, another thought, you guys should play the same maps as ESEA. More people will play UGC and take it seriously if it mirrors ESEA because people are already practicing for ESEA. I don't know if you guys would be willing to up the amount of matches per week.

KevinIsPwnThat's basically what has been said over and over in this thread except for some reason you think it's a good thing. If the only way to counter a weapon is for the other team to use that weapon then the meta shrinks. So despite having a broader whitelist, the meta is shrunk. This happens with a lot of the weapons that are in the game, they just aren't designed for competitive.

I'm not sure where you got that I think it is a good thing. I am in complete agreeance with you. I believe most unlocks make the game less interesting because they slow the game down and force other people to run certain strategies that are usually less fun to watch and to play.

I feel like 6s is more akin to traditional sports in how strategies develop. The rules stay relatively constant and no new mechanics are introduced and yet you still see evolution in the game. I don't really understand why everything nowadays has to follow the "include a million items and characters" when it comes to esports just because that's what works in Dota/LoL.

Frost_BiteRadmanWhat does "not competitive" even mean to you guys? I'm seeing it used to describe any mode that doesn't happen to be your favorite. It means that the format doesn't have the same skill ceiling as sixes. When discussing TF2 unlocks in particular, this is because tf2 unlocks become a game of weighted rock paper scissors with a million different combinations that turns the game into a complete guessing game.

Most players here would rather reward strong dm, good teamwork, and correct positioning than happening to guess the correct unlock to deal with your opponents'. The sixes gamemode and whitelist is the one that is most effective at doing this.

In many cases it isn't even rock paper scissors. It is fighting fire with fire. The quickfix for example was countered just as well by the quickfix, and not just the kritz. It's just like running sniper or heavy. You can get a class to pick those classes in particular, but it is much easier and generally just as effecive to just do the same thing as your opponent.

BLoodSireSomeone remind me why there isn't an ESEA-free division again? I'm not talking about freemium, I mean a division lower than open to invigorate the league with players who are not yet ready to pay to lose. Those are the players in UGC right? Give them the client, maybe they'll even use it to look for scrims and guadge their skill relative to the rest of the league. Would it not make sense from a business standpoint to have a free division without a prize, just to refresh the total player participation in the league? Then when they are already signed up, already familiar with the client, they can decide if they want to pay fees to compete in a more competitive division. Why is this not a thing?

This would probably hurt ESEA's profits especially in TF2, at least in the short term. Plenty of people will drop out of the paid division to play in the free division.

I would love them to make a free division but they won't. Especially for TF2.

#7 New Team Server Sponsorship in TF2 General Discussion
drshdwpuppetthe NFO box is handling everything just fine, they advertise their product as being designed for hosting game servers so I think their product is a little different.GeknaiirI think the ET (hl guys with like phaze, noble, etc.) use a vps for their servers and I've never had a problem with it.

If it is good than that is good, but I would tend to be very skeptical of VPS servers. The typical business model is just not meant for game servers. I'm happy if it works for you guys though.

Hell, my team would even be willing to try if you'd let us.

We've played 3 season in UGC together and this is our first ESEA season for 5 of us.

#4 New Team Server Sponsorship in TF2 General Discussion
drshdwpuppetUniverserulerdont listen to shdw the server is very stutter according to various sources in the tf2 community and u will never get a scrim if people find out it's that server! shdw is trying to trick u into quitting tf2 dont fall for it
Uni I will cut you

we moved server providers after I learned that tragicservers VPS solutions aren't meant for running game servers on.

I've played on a few different VPS providers and they just aren't very well tailored for game servers in my experience. They oversell their boxes' capacity on VPS so at parts of the day when the use on their box ramps up your server will suffer. They're usually meant to just run websites and stuff, not game servers.

#116 ESEA Season 18 Registration in News
Air_a scout that is close enough that you need the faster det time is already going to kill you unless they'd miss enough that you wouldn't need it to begin with.

it does less damage, and has 6 stickies, along with the fact that the increased charge time will fuck with any demo's muscle memory when it comes to aiming stickies at mid/long range

add all of that onto the fact that stickies do way more damage from long range now, and you have a lot of reasons to not use the quickie over stickies.

also its my opinion but i think sticky sniping is way harder with quickie launcher.

i don't think theres any reason to ban it, but also not any reason to use it.

It really just depends on how you want to play. The quickie enables a longer range demo, that can also deal with close range threats easier. It allows the demo to take even fewer heals and allow him to be effective in more than 1 area. Ultimately, default stickies will still be the goto weapon for demos, but the quickie might actually be viable to run sometimes. It might be used in the same way teams try kritz, conch, loose cannon, etc.
