Ascent.EU poaches credu, Ora Elektro falls, and LEGGO is reborn from the ashes

Over the past few days, a chaotic stream of roster shuffles has led to the restructuring of two top Premiership contenders, Ascent.EU and LEGGO (formerly egg), and the demise of Ora Elektro.

This all began on February 12th, with klassy leaving Ascent.EU for reasons covered in this forum post. In his stead, Ascent.EU managed to acquire credu from egg. papi, the team's leader, spoke to us on the these events.

We are all really sad to see klassy go. He is a really good friend to all of us and has played with us from the start of our team. He was instrumental to our team's success, and I'm sure we wouldn't have been as good of a team without him. He was also the best team mate you could ask for, we’ll miss him a lot. The news from him was really unexpected and sudden; we wish him the best with everything in the future.

When we were looking for a replacement, we thought of credu straight away. We’ve all played against him and seen he's pretty good at clicking on people.

Unfortunately for egg, credu's departure also caused Thaigrr to step down, citing his inability to play at Copenhagen Games as well as a lack of motivation due to credu's absence. When asked about his plans for TF2 in the future, the six-time-consecutive Premiership champion directly quoted Justin Bieber.

I have no idea. Never say never, I guess.

Meanwhile, klassy's departure also saw some unforeseen consequences for Ora Elektro, which has decided to forfeit the rest of the season as well as Copenhagen Games. counou, who joined ORA this season as their new Pocket Scout, reflects on the events that led to the breakup:

While it may not have been publicly clear, from within the ORA camp things hadn't been feeling great in the last week or so. Scrim results were poor, morale was low, etc. Eemes himself felt demoralised by his self-perceived underperformance, which went alongside him not having the greatest desire to try hard this season in the first place. Thus, when klassy took the decision to step away from Ascent on Wednesday, he also made the conscious decision that the time was right for him to do the same, which I respect.

It should also be known that in the past 2 weeks, since the release of the ORA fundraiser, Azunis found out that its very likely that he could not attend the event due to personal reasons. After credu decided to poach the egg and move to Ascent, alongside Thaigrr stepping away, our first idea was to move ama to demo and try to acquire dmoule and Josh from egg. That didn't quite go to plan, as due to Eemes' departure, Nevo also felt the time was right to take a step back for now as well, given what he's got going on outside of the game. Thus, we had a discussion as a group of 5 and came to the decision that it was best that the plug was pulled on the ORA Elektro S35 campaign.

Where it breaks my heart though is for ama. He was so keen about this season and LAN, and he's been kind of screwed over here, so I'd like to publicly, on top of privately, apologise to him as this sucks big time for him and I feel so bad for him. I would like to wish all the best to Azunis, Eemes and Nevo in what they do, and I hope to see them come back soon cos they are all amazing people.

counou moving teams means reusing this photograph (taken by Ness "uberchain" Delacroix).

With ORA's demise, egg has taken advantage of the situation to fill the void left by their Scouts and restructure under the name of LEGGO. counou will be taking the spot left by credu, and shock will be taking the Medic role after Jorge was cut. The remaining Scout position will be taken by YeeHaw, who was originally planning to sit this season out after departing from ORA during the off-season.

Despite joining a new team, shock still requires fundraising to get to Copenhagen Games to compete with LEGGO. That information is available on the old Ora Elektro fundraising thread here.

LEGGO will be playing out the rest of ETF2L Season 35 as well as Copenhagen Games 2020 with the following roster:

  • Scout: YeeHaw
  • Scout: counou
  • Roamer: dmoule
  • Pocket: Josh
  • Demoman: Elacour
  • Medic: shock

This won’t quite be a ‘Quitting + My Story’, but since there have been a few questions about the reasons for my departure I will try to answer a few of them here.

My enthusiasm for the game and for high level competition dropped significantly after the s34 finals, and never really recovered sufficiently to a point where I had the same desire to win and perform well as I had previously. This coinciding with an important final term at uni meant that I no longer had the time, or really the motivation, to compete at the kind of level I would want myself and my team to be at. These factors were already in place when I saw that Klassy had decided to leave Ascent, and after discussing it with him I realised that he and I were really in pretty much the same position; the only difference being that I maincall for Øra, and thus my departure was likely to leave a bigger hole to be filled than his.

However, that responsibility cuts both ways, and I realised that having the team limp on under an unfocused maincaller was really going to do more harm than good, not least in terms of morale and enjoyment, as well as results. So I quit.

I’d like to thank all my teammates over the years for being so much fun to play with and giving me so many good memories, in particular Nevo and Azunis, whom I’ve played with for over 2 years now (on and off). I’d also like to thank this season’s roster for being so understanding and respectful of my final decision to quit. Finally, I want to wish good luck to amarok, counou, shock and Yeehaw who will all be competing at Copenhagen Games (please keep donating to shock’s fundraiser!); you’re all beast players and your teams are lucky to have you.
