Stuttering while streaming

Hey
When I'm streaming with OBS, both in fullscreen or windowed mode, my game stutters very badly. My FPS in-game still shows 200 constantly. During the split-seconds while it's frozen my game isn't taking mouse input or anything, just completely frozen I assume (not an FPS drop).
I didn't have this issue before, when I had bad internet.
My settings changed were
Bitrate: 300 -> 1600
Buffer Size: 300 -> ???
Quality Balance: 2 -> 5

That's all I've changed.
I'm not really sure what my buffer-size should be. If someone could explain it to me I'd appreciate it.

My specs:
GTX 570
AMD FX-8120 @ 3.9
8GB RAM

My upload speed is 2.1

Thanks for any help.

Edit: Should also mention, when I tab out and tab back in, my game is smooth for about 2 seconds.

Thought this would be about a mouth stuttering problem.

Maybe try closing background processes?

Are you minimizing your OBS window? This issue happens for some hardware configs.

No, I didn't minimize OBS. I did however solve it by changing my windows theme. I was using a custom windows theme, I changed it to Windows 7 Basic.

I'll try using the Aero theme (which I doubt will work, since I think my custom theme is probably just based off of Aero?), as well as try my themes with OBS minimized, if thats what you were suggesting John.

I'll report back later, in case anyone else has the problem.

It's running smooth as butter now :) Never dropping below my FPS cap or anything.

I'm using game capture.

I tried using my custom windows theme, with OBS minimized, made no difference. Also tried keeping OBS on my second monitor (I read that somewhere). I'll try streaming with the view disabled later, maybe that'll make a difference.

I think several people have noted that OBS + Aero frequently produces this effect. If you configure OBS to disable Aero when running, you should be fine.

How do you even disable aero? I know my razr game booster automatically did it in some games, but I'd like to permanently do it.

- Right click desktop
- Personalise
- Scroll down past Aero themes, to Windows Basic themes
- Choose one
