My parents grounded me until summer break and I probably won't be able to play much at all during the summer because I'm going to Nicaragua on a community service trip.

Anyway, what should I do to keep myself from getting rusty when I can't play video games at all? Should I try meditation? eye hand coordination exercises?

Please help me tftv! I don't wanna get badworse!

I'll try and stay on top of all of my assignments but I don't think that will be enough. mr. and mrs. Fapn are the type of people that like to stick to their word.

Your parents sound like smart people.

Do yourself a massive favor and try your best in school and get the best grades that you can. Pick up programming and tell your parents you want to be a programmer. It will give you an excuse to use the computer. Than you can get a job programming for a gaming company and you can play video games all you want BUT also be able to put a roof over your head. You might not reach your dreams of being an invite master of the universe, but you'll at least have accomplished something.

thanks defiance. My grades arent the greatest but they certainly aren't bad. I think my parents just really want me to make up for my terrible grades from last year. I don't think that they're doing anything wrong at all, besides maybe overreacting a little to just a few missing homework assignments.

I had the same idea about taking up programming. I've always had an interest in it, and I've taken a few programming classes in the past and learned the very basics. I've just never truly dedicated myself to learning it. I'll get going on that c++ book I've had sitting in my desk for a year now.

i never play tf2 and it doesn't feel like i'm that rusty when people ask me to ring for them lol

honestly i think taking a long break can help people improve once they get back up to speed again (at least that's how it works with rhythm and fighting games). i'm not allowing myself to play tf2 because of my classes schedule, but it's similar to your situation considering your hours are going to basically drop to 0 for a few weeks. imo just don't worry about it and do what you have to do

You could try to negotiate something like being grounded for only one week, but you promise to do your homework every day before you can play video games, and if you miss another assignment you understand that the grounding will be reinstated. Then just don't fuck it up.

But really, you should care more about your grades than your parents do--it's YOUR future that is affected. Prove that you can be responsible for yourself and your parents might trust you more and be more lenient/understanding.

It's like riding a bike tbh.

Just focus on school for now, and make your parents happy. When you can play TF2 again, just spend an hour in DM and you'll be good to go.

Put TF2 and Steam and whatever else you'll need into a USB, then use this thing only the 90's elders know as a "library" and in there they have computers. And there you go.

Look, if tf2 is really keeping you from getting good grades, focus on your grades. You'll relearn video games fast enough. Hell, i can still speed run Baldur's Gate 2 and it's been about 3 years since i did that. An hour and a half for BG2 is still . . . fairly decent (i think the record was like 32 minutes.)
Plus, if you get good grades you can get a good job and get a badass battle station. And bitches love battle stations.

Don't make the mistake I did while going through school, thinking school isn't important. I know you like to play games, we all do, but excessively playing games (Like I did during the first two years of high school) Can really mess up your future for college. Just study first, then games second. Always Second. Then when you get good grades, you can play games all you want after you finish studying. Its just balancing the two out, and in reality, you'll have more time to play games then you do studying.

Start going to the gym/running/doing some sort of consist exercise schedule (if you don't already). This makes life overall better.
And seriously do work for good grades. Don't put it off. Full effort, all the time. it's not worth getting shitty grades in high school for a little extra timing gaming. Believe me, I wasted time gaming (mainly my freshman year of college) and everything else but studying, and it's a pain in the ass to come back from. You can always come back, but it's easier just to focus on your work first.
If you don't focus on your grades early on, you'll be making this post to someone else a few years from now.

The thing is my grades are fine right now. All A's and B's. I know its not anything amazing but I don't think its enough for my parents to do this to me.

its not like im failing all of my classes and saying my parents are retards for not letting me play vidya gaems.

Most assignments are pointless garbage and not worth the time anyway, something you could argue if you demonstrate good test scores and excelling on projects that have real weight. But then, I don't know your parents and NICARAGUA.

I agree with Fox to an extent, some stuff is just like riding a bike. If anything my hitscan accuracy has increased tenfold after my hiatus. Don't even worry about it. Just apply yourself to what you are allowed to do, books are great, I could recommend many.

To be honest, you'll only be rust for a little while. The main thing is keeping your game sense and knowledge up rather than your muscle memory, because muscle memory doesn't go away for a really long time. I would say watch 1-2 full matches per day and really submerse yourself in them just to keep your game knowledge up.

To be honest, when parents ground for giant periods of time like that, often times they won't hold out for the full length.

Do a 180 on the work habits for a good while (complete assignments early / as soon as you get them, for example) and you may be able to lessen your "sentence" to about a month.

Oh, and volunteer to take care of dishes, especially the ones that the dishwasher can't do. Nobody can resist that. :P

Do all of your homework the day it's assigned, then generally be in the way of your parents by hanging around the house a lot and make them remember why you playing video games and not bothering them is a good thing. Works for me.
