Alright so I've been being a little bitch. Here's 7HUD:

https://code.google.com/p/7hud/ (download, updates)

Feel free to offer up criticism. I know it seems cluttered to a lot of people, I understand that. I also won't shit in your face and throw shrimp analogies at you if I don't agree with you. Forgive me, Mr. Slin. :3

I think the healthcross is either out of place or just doesn't belong. Seems really cluttered with it being there. Other than that I like the hud

I honestly like the layout of the health cross, I think it looks good and works well

One bit of criticism I'd mention is that the numbers could be a little easier to read(bigger/thicker/better font), and I also think the teammate health numbers could be bigger or easier to read.

Everything else though I like, especially how the text on screen seems to be mostly sized according to importance

Are you using 16:9? They look that way because I use 16:10 and don't really know how to make it all work together.

The HUD gets pretty cluttered near the center of the screen, don't personally like that. If you moved everything down a bit and the health cross to the left of the health rather than to the bottom left it would probably feel a little less cluttered.

I don't really like the fact it has a black transparent background on the health/ammo.

makes it seemed more cluttered with that added

I don't get the cluttered vibe at all. I reduced a lot of the effects to get rid of the clutteredness. I like it like that.

I don't understand why no one is open to new things. All anybody likes these days is HUDs that are just way far back from everything with huge ugly fonts and no design at all. This is meant to function and look good, not just give you all your info in one big ugly package. But no one cares. It's all about the same old things, no openness.

Hey man no need to go off. It's not like I didn't look at your HUD. I saw the screenshots, and it's too cluttered. It's a simple statement, but if you don't understand then I will elaborate.

The scoreboard is just meh -- background is too dark to see through, and the red/blue headers are too wide.
The outline around the health cross is too thick, and is honestly unnecessary unless you frequently forget what color team you are on.
The white font for your health and ammo is easily read on 80% of the maps in TF2, and adding a shaded box behind it only takes up more real estate on your screen. It's unnecessary.
The most cluttered and hard to understand part of your HUD is the Medic HUD, which is understandable since you probably don't play much medic. The colored bar for your teammates is unnecessary as you cannot heal enemies. The health box to the left doesn't fill based on the player's health -- only the text changes color. It's great that the text changes color, but you may also consider addin a visual representation that you can read using peripheral vision. Some HUDs fill a bar, others grow a cross.

That is what I mean when I say cluttered. It's not that I'm closed minded; I've just seen other HUDs that are more minimalist and take up less space on the screen. Two great HUDs that do that are Oxide HUD and Broesel HUD. Check them out for reference.

Good luck on your HUD.

Also it's not like there aren't good HUDs that keep everything in the center of the screen. It's a preference thing. Some people like the HUD elements far from the crosshair, but others like it close so that they don't need to move their eyes much. You're obviously going for the latter. That's fine. Just make sure you don't take up too much space or you'll only be looking at the HUD and not at the game.

I was wrong to have gotten mad like that and I'm sorry. But you haven't even downloaded the HUD. The screenshots are just static images that give a brief and shallow view of what the HUD looks like. You have no place to give me criticism when you have no grounds to do so.

If you ask for feedback and don't have support for resolutions other than 16:10 you can't expect everyone who critiques to have used it. I also personally don't see the difference between critiquing from a screenshot and from in-game. sure, while you're using it in actual play you get more exposure to the nuanced elements of the hud but it still seems pretty easy to make an accurate generalization like Mr. Slin did. I would agree it seems too cluttered as well, for me personally. It is all personal preference, too, so keep that in mind.

Wait, so you're saying you have an opinion... and not everybody agrees with it?! What is this madness?

Aesthetically: the HUD looks good. Clearly you spent a lot of time making it appealing.

Practically: it has a lot of unnecessary stuff that makes it harder to see what's going on around you. It's the same reason people don't use viewmodels; they look great and all, but they just get in the way when you're trying to find people to click on.

If I hadn't been using the internet for like 13 years, I'd be amazing at how defensive you're being about your HUD being seen as revolutionary and perfect, but sadly this is not the case.

The health cross takes away all the symmetry and the boxes behind the numbers are distracting, IMO. I like that font though. The menus look nice.

Sevin you're being a bit ridiculous. All I said was "it looks pretty cluttered". You posted screenshots, and the screenshots look cluttered. I don't know why you feel that I'm not allowed to make comments on your screenshots, when you specially said in the OP "tell me what you guys think". Plus, it's not my fault that your screenshots make your HUD look cluttered. Maybe you should have taken better screenshots.

And of course I didn't download the HUD. Why would I download a HUD that looks cluttered?

Ease up on taking people's criticisms. You made a hud that you really like and that's great! I know there's a lot of work that goes into making a hud. A lot of people prefer one kind of hud of design and don't like others that really deviate from that style.

If they don't like it then so be it; other's may really like it. Thank you for taking the time to make a custom hud and sharing it with the community.

Actually, considering a HUD is near purely visual, it's like seeing a picture of art, and deciding you dont like it instead of going out to see it in person. Don't be so defensive, just take criticism and think about if it follows what you want and decide if you want it to be used or not.

But the thing is, shrimp has both a visual element and a taste element.

HUDs only have the visual.

It's like me looking at a frame of a movie and saying 'ah, it's in black and white.' I know the film will be in black and white, do you want me to watch it to make sure I was right?

The thing about your HUD is that it is pretty cluttered. I don't need to download it and use it if I can already tell what I'll be looking at.

If you want people to make good judgement without downloading and using your HUD, then make a video with it.

My two cents:

I'd suggested either making the font less tall or removing the black boxes. Or both. It kind of detracts from it visually. Some may argue that the health cross is too large. I'd agree, to an extent. Maybe thin the border around it out a bit.

Also, you have a bit too many HUD elements pertaining to team color. Are the lines under the health and ammo with the team color really necessary? If you already have the border around the health, why do you need them there?

Switch the demo head-count with the sticky count.

And if you want everything to be closer to the center, you should move the last-damage indicator closer, instead of bottom right. Or bottom left at least. Also the disguise panel is kind of really low and out of view.

Oh, and one final thing: make it 16:9 optimized please.

But good work! Much more than I ever could do.

Just relax, you're the greatest.
