The Newbie Mix Team Drive is back for Season 28 of ESEA

After a successful S27 NA 6v6 Newbie Mix Team Drive, creating 10 teams worth of players to enter the ESEA scene, there’s no way we wouldn’t come back for S28. We’re hoping to not only keep the barrier of entry low for people on the fence about joining ESEA, but facilitate more balanced matches for the entire league.

We had a pretty strong drive last season, and I have complete confidence that we can do it again, but the Newbie Admins can't do this alone. We need the help of as many people as possible. Here are some of the ways you can support us:

Mentors
Mentors will be put in charge of a single team. Team mentors will help their team get their roster sorted properly, guide the newbies through the ropes of paying/playing in ESEA properly, and do demo/map reviews with their team. Every team that signs up will be getting a mentor, and we would absolutely love to have a large pool of people to choose the best-of-the-best from, so please sign up. It shouldn't take more than 1-2 hours a week, and a team will love you for it.

Premium codes
While asking for last minute premium codes for substitutes on tf.tv is common at this point, we don’t believe it should be something our newbies should have to worry about. “Is an Invite player going to see my post? Should I add one?” People new to the competitive scene have a lot of other stuff they could focus on. With them being new to the whole process, it’d be a whole lot easier if we just had a pool of a dozen or more codes to pull from in our google doc throughout the season.

Monetary Donations
This is the less fun part. Some of the people that will play in the drive teams will be kids/young teenagers with no way to pay for ESEA. During S27, about $300 in donations were used to let multiple people be able to play, and an even bigger drive could require even more. Unfortunately, any newbies that can’t get paid for in some way will be unable to participate. If you want to help, you can donate here, and check our progress here.

If you would like to volunteer as a mentor, message Jarrett on tftv or steam with a link to your ESEA page, and your email (for google docs). If you have premium codes to share, wish to donate via non-paypal, or have any questions, feel to message Jarrett via tftv or steam. Questions from newbies should go into this thread. Even if you don't want to help out in any official capacity, spread the word as much as you can. Let's do something amazing for this game we all enjoy so much.

Thank you.

Newbie mixes has helped me get back into tf2 after a 2 year hiatus. I feel like I have improved and learned a lot through the past few weeks of newmixes then I have in my two seasons in iron and steel (4s, lol). Looking for cool gamers to game with :)

I just want to say thank you to all of the new admins and people that have stepped up. I cant actually convey how grateful I am that Newbie Mixes have been kept alive after the old group of admins stepped back.

What do you think the ratio of people who entered last year's drive to people who stayed on the those teams is? I think it would have an impact on how many people enter this year's drive.

A couple teams are living I think (which would subtract from signups), but it is a summer season after all, so I'm not really sure where the numbers will fall. We'll see at the end.

We're halfway through the drive but NOT at the ideal halfway point for signups. If you know any low-mid open players/ugc players that are having a rough time finding a team for themselves, tell them to consider signing up before May 4th and I can put them on a team as close to their skill level as possible. Don't let the struggles of creating/finding a team prevent you from playing a season.

Also, we're still sponsoring UGC teams to bring their already constructed team into ESEA.

I'm the worst mentor ever because I only realized an hour ago that my newbie mix team made their ESEA roster but did not sign it up for S28 Open. I'm asking anybody who learns of an abandoned roster from a team that quit to please message me so that I can hopefully start moving my players over to it. It's important that I do this ASAP so as to minimize the amount of forfeit losses that new roster incurs and because it takes over a week to move 6 people over. In the meantime my guys will keep scrimming in a normal manner.

I'm a little late updating this but they got a roster. Hurray! Thanks to everyone who spotted the defunct roster and to akemi for giving it to them.
