unbearable freezes/fps drops

okay, so not too shortly after the pyro update hit my game started suffering from these freezes or fps drops, i don't know what, that lasted from between a fraction of a second to large ones like 2 seconds. these were happening easily multiple times a minute and you can probably imagine that it made me go insane in a full 30 minute match. it made the game feel like a slideshow and it legitimately made me contemplate on quitting the game. here's a video demonstration of what it was like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIzVLQtm9LY all the tiny freezes are not because the video is failing it's the game. it's just unbearable to play the game like this.

i can tell you that these freezes only happen in actual games and become worse during fights, when i'm bhopping or just playing on a practice maps they are nonexistent. i've validated game files, reinstalled the game and all my custom files, i even went as far to clean my computer from dust but that didn't do anything either. when this was happening i also noticed that my tf2 was taking an incredible amount of time to even load up, easily over 3 minutes. note that NONE of this was happening in other games like csgo, l4d2 and overwatch.

so realizing it wasn't happening in other games i isolated the problem to tf2. the thing that made me eventually let out a sigh of relief was switching from my fps config, which at the time was chris' maxframes to chris' highframes. this fixed all the stuttering and tf2 was starting up in around 30-40 seconds. it was truly a great time to be alive because i thought everything was fixed. except since yesterday the stuttering returned. nothing i've done has fixed the problem, i had faith in chris' highframes but it ultimately betrayed me. all the symptoms are the exact same as before, i haven't installed anything i could see that would cause this.

so please, if anyone has any idea what this is and how to fix it, please give me some help. i'll try my best to answer any questions you might have.

Go offline on steam friends and see if that solves it.

well, mastercom's config was indeed able to make the stuttering less frequent, but it was still happening. definitely not as often as it had before but it was still there. compared to when i made the switch to chris' highframes the first time that completely fixed the problem, i'm not sure how good it is.

i also tried going offline on steam back when this was happening for the first time and it didn't yield any results.

uhh, okay well... i was powering through the small stuttering i was left with after i switched to the compquality version of mastercom's config. however, today the full on stuttering returned once again, and i want to die.

-dxlevel 81 like it has always been, unless you mean the dx9frames case then it was -dxlevel 95

okay i used chris' dx9frames on dx8 after hearing it was silentes' config and i thought why not try it out and would you look at that it was doing the same thing as the compquality config and it also fell apart after like a day.

i switch to some random config and it seems to be doing the trick but after a day it breaks is basically what's been happening these past 4 days.

TF2 optimization is shit either way, you might want to try and make the switch to dx 90 or 95, since TF2 doesn't really like running on dx 81 anymore. You could also try Sage's update of Comanglia's config, as it seems that helps, if not, then I'm afraid you will be stuck with this stuttering.

alright i THINK i have this garbage fixed. i turned off LOD Bias and defragged the game's files. it's working well now. no small stutters like i used to have with the compquality config and dx9frames, there's no stuttering left whatsoever.

hopefully i didn't set up a flag by saying this but fingers crossed it stays fixed.
