you solo cast a lot so you have to be the energy/chatty guy as well as the play by play guy...its never gonna be a perfect balance of the two because there's no one there to hop in when they see something important you don't. keeping track of 12 people with no minimap is ridiculous...i wouldn't sweat it.

SalamancerI've been in Cbear's golden swimming pool. The problem is, the gold flakes off and dissolves in the water and you come out covered in gold. You wouldn't think that's a problem, but heavy metal toxicity is a terrible thing.

is this a euphemism for cbear peeing on you?

I wonder what that idiot thinks about Stephano and Idra.

No one here is technically a professional with regards to TF2. Yes, it's still ok for non-professionals to be held up to professional level of conduct. And we have TFTV and VanillaTV for that. YOU, Sal, are your own thing. Outside of casts you do for aforementioned organizations, you make the rules about what you do. Since you're technically not a professional caster of TF2 (unless MLG asks you to cast TF2...), I see no reason to strictly hold yourself to professional code of conduct outside of TFTV unless you desire to do so.

i do find myself disliking the tangents you go off on sometimes but by and large you're a great caster, and we're lucky to have you

Sal...one thing I personally have learned is you cant please everyone...it is impossible. Do what you love...do the best you can and be happy doing it. In the end you are doing something that you enjoy and you bring those who love you along for the ride! If someone doesn't like how you cast...then guess what...they can go listen to someone else. My question to anyone who shoots down anyone else doing stuff for the community is, "what have you done for the community to make it better...hmmm??"

You're casts are the ones that GOT me into comp tf2 in the first place. You do a great job of making your casts highly enjoyable to an audience that isn't necessarily super invested or interested in comp tf2, yet still enjoyable by people that are. I say keep what you're doing (especially if that's how you prefer to do it), and only consider changing if that's really what you want, or if it'd mean you end up casting on MLG.

I think the "critique", in the first place, is stupid. You're obviously doing fine, and if there are people that regularly watch your stuff, that means that there is a a group of people that prefer your style of casting, as opposed to a more professional approach. And every group or community needs so diversity. If we had all really professional casters, someone would cry out for a more goofy caster.

Also if gold doesn't dissolve in water then why is there a story of a groundskeeper at Versailles panning for gold in the gutters every time it rained?

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?! I always thought Day9 was some emo beardo hipster vlogger, and turned him off after 5 minutes. What game does he cast?

Day9 used to be like an absolute top level NA player back in SC1. He started in SC2 as probably the best caster in the scene, but as his daily shows started to become and less and less education and more and more pandering to his weird fans with horrific narcissism, he just sold out and became kind of irrelevant.

Watch the earlier (like, <300) dailies, they're fucking awesome.

Sal, coming from an extremely shy person, I wish I could be more outgoing and goofy like you are in casts. I oftentimes hold back in fear of "Oh, what people think if I said that or posted that". You do an amazing job and are a pillar of the competitive TF2 community.

Keep on keeping on.

If there's something I know about TF2 commentators in general it's that the "professional" and "educating" ones like Shibby are terribly boring

You say you're goofy but this isn't golf, it's an esport. Compared to other casters in other games I've seen like especially Day9 (who's gotten a bit too casual and thoughtless lately but yes do check out older vids of his) you're doing just fine. Even "professional" TotalBiscuit goes on tangents and has silly mannerisms

If anything a TF2 caster needs to be more goofy than SC2 or Dota 2 casters simply because of the game's atmosphere and the fact there's less pretentious unintuitive strategy talk to be had

Sal, you are the very first caster I've ever watched. You were the one that turned me on to teamfortress.tv, UGC's Highlander, KipTV, and VanillaTV. I have watched just about every one of your videos because they entertain and enlighten me. You are an amazing caster and you should not change.

MarxistIf that means you need to dress up in a tuxedo and speak 18th century English

...is there any chance you could do this? Just for one cast?

Seriously, we can see that your casting is well-received by people who understand the game and take it relatively seriously. For people less into comp TF2, or new to it, I would think your goofball zaniness would be more accessible, particularly since TF2 is a pretty zany game itself.
Obviously, sometimes it's good to be professional, such as when you're casting big high-level matches on TFTV. And when you do that, you are more professional. For your own casts, you do it how you want. Plus, being more professional, focused only on the game, no tangents, catching all the action, etc; that's obviously more difficult. Which is highly relevant when you're solo casting and doing your own camera work. If you were to try and do what this guy seems to want you to, I imagine you would get considerably less casts done, and enjoy them less. Neither of those are things we want.
Finally, people watch different casters for different things - energy, humour, and high-level analysis are the three big things which spring to mind. Of course, you've never played comp TF2 at a high level, so that potentially limits your high-level analysis; but your energy and humour carry you through any issues there and make your casts really enjoyable. Keep them as they are.
