this graph is actually pretty cool. seems like there are small bumps in interest during the summer, especially july/august (i-lans?). but the peaks from the mm beta and "full release" (xd) are absolutely huge.
it's a lot more depressing now though when you think about how badly valve dropped the ball. look at all that interest in comp from the casual community that's dissipated due to valve's incompetence

every two months or so i try valve comp again out of curiosity. i'm on a nearly yearlong streak of encountering a hacker immediately.

i also have to turn dx8 off, which costs me ~60 frames.

yikes

why do people hack in MM? you literally dont get anything from it, you just risk a vac ban. just seems like a waste of time to even bother queuing up let alone aimbot

You don't risk almost anything if you use premium cheats. Valve fucking sucks at detecting them. The reason people cheat in mm as opposed to someone else is they get a little badge to pump up their pathetic egos.

So disappointing how they dropped the ball with a halfhearted mm release, I remember the lead up to MM beta and the hype and hope being generated around our community was incredible. I had such high expectations because Valve were finally doing something about the massive gap between the comp and casual communities, what could have been...

I should add I don't think Comp TF2 will ever die, as long as there's 12 people willing it'll always survive. Just depends on what your definition of "dead" is.

i feel like the matchmaking system does not envision competitive tf2 at all, countless cheaters and people who just troll the entire time. really sad way of presenting a great community of team fortress and it's a shame it didn't have the effect everyone wanted.

The MM launch was just garbage to be honest there are bugs in there that make the mode unplayable on some systems (anyone on a laptop with optimus will get console spam and 10fps after about 5 mins) that have been there since day 1 of beta and well documented on the forums without so much as a comment.seems ridiculous to me to release a mode that everybody gave up playing in beta to full without changing anything at all.

I think I've seen this exact thread so many times it's like watching my middle aged parents and their friends call trump an idiot because they watched a 20 minute clip about him on last week tonight.
Nothing new is accomplished by raving about valves iincompetence and inability to help the comp scene, the community has been beating this horse since the inception of the competetive scene.

could be worse. blizzard's actively killing it's own game's scene. developer support isn't always all it's cracked up to be. at least we CAN run tournaments with no restrictions. valve is one of the only big developers left that permit that.

according to this "trends" logic, it looks like competitive tf2 first began taking off early-mid 2015
