it seems really over-edited and a lot of the transitions during clips are confusing and hard to look at. The clips themselves aren't very impressive either. Try using shorter clips where we dont see you miss your first 5 shots before getting 2 kills. dont include clips of 15 second scout v scout battles where both of you miss 90% of your shots.

I couldn't watch all of it as it was giving me a headache from all the black frame insertions and frame jumps you did.

man we've gave you so much advice yet you don't seem to improve. not shitting on your parade (except i kinda am), since i'm not the best editor either, but you really gotta do more simple edits...

Sound effects
Pancrop very bad
Intro cringy
Rough cuts
No velo

Don't overedit if you aren't really confident in your ability because it took away from the frags

the overediting isnt always that bad, but the quality of clips need to reflect it. Nobody wants to see you take 12 shots to kill a soldier. at 1:00 there was 10 cuts before you even killed anyone. Thats like, 8 cuts more than anyone cares to see.
Better clip selection, and better transitions. Those black frame cuts are the equivalent of not using bank turns in rollercoaster tycoon. Its jarring and makes the consumer feel sick.

if u wanna practice making edits download some prem povs/stvs or something, use clips that are impressive or even half decent so they can be edited, ur clips are literally 50% u walking around before u hit even a single shot

the transitions were a good idea but try doing it differently like adding a subtle 'woosh' sound some editors like to use when switching scenes or make the transitions 'flow' and softer kinda like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-dI0IStk2Q

the woosh example:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-dI0IStk2Q&feature=youtu.be

if ur struggling on the clips and want them fast just steal clips from threads on tftv when people have demo requests like the ikpure one

ok if u want thoughts/tips

  • dont do black jumpcuts, use the footage you have
  • if you DO do black jump cuts, dont make some of them not completely faded?
  • stop slowing shit down to emphasize nothing, it's aggravating to watch
  • if you're doing a lot of jump cuts and not touching the audio, download every sound in tf2 and put them all in manually so you don't have less than good audio
  • too many jumpcuts
  • adjust your render settings so that your 720p60 doesn't look like 360p45
  • avoid pan crop transitions at all costs
  • avoid pan cropping at all costs lol
  • please stop pan cropping
  • why was that medic pov there???? to show his uber %? because the quality is too low to read the text
  • the transitions synced to music are VERY harsh

basically

you're making progress, i get the style you're going for and fundamentally you're improving, however there's very little fluidity and flow to your video. I think overall it would've been much better if you had crossfaded or used transitions instead of jump cutting to sync with the song, and not used pancrop especially since they dragged on and your crosshair being very pixelated was hard to look at.

hope this helps, dont give up

All_Over_RSvideo bitrate should also be higher, maybe around 15-25 mbps (along with 1080p, 720p doesn't really cut it tbh)

from what I know VirtualDub is pretty outdated software, i'd recommend picking up Adobe Premiere/AE or Vegas. another alternative if you don't want to get those is Hitfilm 4 Express, which is what I use and it's pretty good as long as you're not doing super advanced stuff.

a) bitrate should never be above 15mpbs because youtube recompresses the shit out of everything (fuck you, youtube.)
b) virtualdub isn't what you use to edit lol its what u use to string the tga files lawena creates together
c) this isn't not advanced

also also download castingessentials so that your killfeed in stvs is white, makes a world of difference

ok if u want thoughts/tips

-I disagree with others on this thread saying it's "overedited" - I think that's not the right word for it, I think what people are reacting to is that a lot of your editing choices hurt the video by confusing or jarring the viewer. There's a pretty simple fix to this, which is: while you're editing, keep playing back what you've done and try to view it objectively. If your editing choices seem poor or jarring to yourself, they will be poor and jarring to the viewer, and you should try something different. This is what yerb means by "self-review."

-If you have to use clips where you miss a lot or are just running around doing nothing for a bit, use cuts (or other transitions?) to eliminate that dead time between frags. You seem to understand this concept but you only use it in some parts of the video for whatever reason.

-I honestly really liked 0:57 - 1:02, this is really great. The sniper frag was great, the kill happens as the beat drops, and the transition to the next clip was solid because you made the framing of the thirdperson shots of the sniper and scout similar enough that it wasn't jarring.

-Overall, hold yourself to a high standard of quality and spend more time thinking about how to use editing to guide the viewer's attention. It's great that you sync editing choices to the music but you need to understand when a choice is jarring or unpleasant to the viewer and then change it. Your video description says you only spent 7 hours making this, and it shows. You're not going to be a perfect editor instantly, but spending more time on projects will help.

pro-tip if you wanna get into fancy editing: look at what others are doing, copy that. Sounds kinda backwards, but the thing is, if you try to reinvent the wheel, it's not gonna be as good. If you watch a lot of great editors' work and pick elements that you like in all of them and incorporate them in your work, you will have your unique spin on it. Unless you focus on just 1 or 2 editors, it's not gonna look like a copycat. And then eventually when you get better, the knowledge you will get will allow you to come up with your own new techniques that actually look good.

Shears-I disagree with others on this thread saying it's "overedited" - I think that's not the right word for it, I think what people are reacting to is that a lot of your editing choices hurt the video by confusing or jarring the viewer.

Also this ^. Overedited kinda implies you spent too much time editing it (while the opposite might be the case). You can have 50 effects in a single clip but if they're subtle and used right, nobody will bat an eye, but put 1 bad, over-the-top thing in and suddenly it's overedited. So the point is, when people say it's overedited, they're using the wrong word, but they're right that there's something wrong with the edit.

one more thing to add, always make the first frag a banger.

the intro drags on, and then the first frag clip is garbage. I would usually turn the video off at that point.

I think the music choice was good.

The sniper clip could've started it off right, but it was also good where you put it with the sync. so you need another flashy clip for the start.
