I just don't understand why FaceIt is just the ultimate solution. It is NOT the perfect fit for everyone. IF FaceIt puts in something that are already available in other services, I will start playing. If you are fine with playing the class that is needed, awesome for you, enjoy faceit! I personally do NOT like such a system, because I like playing demo more than anything else, and I don't like the odds of being able to play it when I'm playing with a random group of six people. I understand that you just play the game, and like I said, if that works for you then AWESOME you enjoy the new program with faceit. However, to say that we should just abandon everything that we already enjoy just because there is a new system with rewards is not the right way to do things. I want to play the way I want to, this is a game after all not my job. I don't need to win prizes, I just wanna play demo. The idea that we should all coalesce into one singular platform that does NOT satisfy every persons desires in a pug system just because it has prizes is ludicrous. There should always be alternatives and a way to play the game the way you want to.
But again just to be clear, because everyone yells at me every time I say something, I don't think FaceIt is inherently bad, I personally prefer being able to pick a class and I know that there are others like me.

"Man I sure am feeling for some pugs right now."

Pugchamp
"Fat kidded 9/10 times, meme pug, less than desirable encounters with passive aggressive teammates or full on ragers, one good pug where I learned something and had a lot of fun. No captains around but 17/12 in the queue, no medics queued but bless the ones that do and have to endure the meme pugs and bot teammates and enemies. Some cool people."

FaceIT
"Lol why play FaceIT when pugchamps a thing, meme offclasses & shenanigans (sorry, I'm actually guilty for this a few times), wonder where the rest of the community is because I see the same people most of the time. Nice people mostly, new players willing to learn."

Mixchamp
"It's ok, sometimes, people are p nice all around."

In-house Pugs
"Fat kidded, waiting for next pug, Pugs are dead. Mostly everyone is p cool."

I personally enjoy all the pug systems, but every pug system leaves something to be desired. I thought maybe FaceIT could be a bridge between new players and higher level players, but it seems like people either aren't playing, our playerbase is too small, or we lack the power to attract people to competitive unless we get a push from Valve. Not sure how to deal with a situation like this, but I appreciate all the people who run the pug sites and have to endure the lack of acknowledgement, hate and vitriol from some people, you are the ones keeping competitive TF2 alive and have done more than anything Valve has done in TF2's life to push competitive TF2 forward. Although I can't really offer much to the table, I can only hope TF2 will thrive and prosper because the amount of effort you people put into this game.

b4nnyIt doesn't matter how hard anyone worked. They should be proud of their websites, but their time has passed. This goes way beyond all the personal grudges and hurt feelings that everyone in the TFTV illuminati insists on bringing into every single possible project that they don't have complete control over. Eventually you guys will have to accept that I'm not the bad guy. Zzz

It's like they read the first sentence and stopped their I'm done lmao

I'm actually decent at the game and struggle to ever get picked unless there's nobody else to be picked

But, just because faceit joined our community, it doesn't mean people should shit on the ones that got us to this stage tbh. If tf2c/pugch/any other system etc never existed we'd never have faceit. Especially since these guys have mostly embraced faceit, so why not just be thankful to them, there's no reason to be rude about it. Nobody who cares about the game so much that they'd make their own service does it for the money...

In conclusion, all we need for pug sites to thrive is remove the medic class smh

b4nny has clearly stated that he wants what he wants for the best of the community and not because he wants to "shit on" the other pug services. I mean b4nny's incredibly cold about it and arguably disrespectful, but that has nothing to do with his argument.

CapuLastly, my opinion of FaceIt is the same: if it becomes better, people will play in it. It has the best incentive there can be in a game like TF2, which is money. It has all the potential it can have: TF2 community members working for them, a company behind it, etc. Let the people decide what they like best, let there be options.SnazCevo
IGL
Esea
Zowie
RAZR monthly mayhem
RAZR weekly cups
MLG ladders
+ Whatever I can't remember right now.

And now faceit

We have closed so many doors for our community to become more then just dead. But this might be the very last door and thats why so many people are so eager to take this opportunity and you should to. But if we dont put effort into making faceit our main platform for our pugging system then maybe what Snaz said will become the truth.

CapuAs for the other reasons, I think your logic is flawed, so let me explain it. You seem to think that this situation is comparable to ESEA/CEVO when in reality it isn't:
- They are leagues while these are lobby sites.

More importantly, b4nny, if you believe that having several different sites is bad for all of them, should we take away the leagues?

.

Okay first you say that u cant compare the leagues to a lobby site and then you compare the league to lobby sites.

http://i.imgur.com/kMlMxFX.png?1

Thats how many people are on tf2center atm.

Do you understand how beneficial that would be to the tf2 community and the game in general if we had that many people + the people who dislike tf2center on faceit?. We would be getting sponsored weekly and the developers will show more interest in adding features on their site. There will also be more tournaments just everything better in general. This would interest a lot of people from other games to play this game aswell.

I think you've got the wrong idea of what I think. I hope TF2 grows because I like the game, and if FaceIt can help it, then I'll be happy, trust me. But I don't believe that killing off sites like TF2Center and PugChamp is going to make people like FaceIt more, nevermind the manners in which that has been communicated. If people end up liking FaceIt for whatever reason, be it the prizes or the format or anything, they'll use it.

In the end, people have "chosen" TF2Center as their way to play lobbies, which saddens me, but there are explanations for that. What b4nny and others in this thread are saying is that those 300 people in TF2C should just completely stop using a site just because there's something new, which might or might not appeal to them.

As for the developers showing more interest in TF2, let's not talk about that. They haven't given signs that they want to embrace whitelists and rulesets, and FaceIt has them. It would be FaceIt having to embrace the dev team and not the other way around.

I don't understand how offending a FaceIt tournament admin who was privately helping promotional efforts both with b4nny and others works in the favour of competitive TF2. The excuse simply doesn't work.

aieraIf you don't have a medic then go medic is it actually that hard?

People just like being top fraggers too much. Even in Overwatch, a game with four actually fun to play medic classes, people still refuse to play support because muh gold medals.

I don't get it.

no medic is fucking AIDS in pugs because the actually interesting parts of TF2's metagame get stripped when your pocket can't defend you and you're 2nd fragging as medic. Medic is fun, but he's the true tragedy of the commons cause playing properly is boring if your team isn't communicative or is playing solo. If everyone else on your team is focusing on having fun, you won't.

As somebody who very new to comp, I do absolutely agree that the pug systems are a little intimidating or just plain difficult for new players.

Everyone has thousands of hours and they're playing to have good matches, rather than to bed in newbies.
I do think it would be great to have a place for people who are completely new to comp to go and figure it out with players of similar or only slightly higher quality.

That said, the other options being there present an alternative if you want to go straight in with far superior players.

I dont think people have chosen Tf2center ,there wasnt any other options especially when you are new to the game. Most of the people who play on tf2center dont even know that faceit tf2 exist and the fact even they can win prizes from playing on faceit. If a new player wants to play competitive tf2 the answer before was tf2center but now it should be Faceit. If tf2center is one of the pillars in the community then i have doubts on where the future of the scene will be.

Re4lityIf a new player wants to play competitive tf2 the answer before was tf2center but now it should be Faceit. If tf2center is one of the pillars in the community then i have doubts on where the future of the scene will be.

I'm a new player hoping to get into comp. Here's my experience:

  • Learned the basics of the game and was getting bored of pubs so I welcomed the Matchmaking update
  • Competitive matchmaking tends to be weak - often one of the teams gets rolled because someone goes sniper/spy, etc (I thought there was going to be skill matching with this - haven't experienced that at all, unless I'm as bad as the folks who taunt conga the whole match)
  • Play a few NA Newbie mixes (they don't often start when scheduled - but I get that, it's all volunteers) - has been helpful.
  • Watched some streams, played mixchamp a few times (good when I could play - often there aren't enough people queued - some issues with players dropping and there being little strategic discussion, etc, so I haven't learned a whole lot)
  • Posted in looking for team, looking for players, etc, so far nothing has worked out.

I'm kind of in a bit of a limbo where I'm bored of pubs, but I haven't played with enough people to start making contacts and making headway on joining a team. It's an unfortunate spot to be in.I hope this system will bridge that gap, at least partly.

Now I'm pretty sure you're mixing up means and consequences on purpose, but if you're not are you saying that erynn's support outweighs 300+ more people playing on faceit?

I'm not saying I don't agree with you just yet, just trying to understand what the logical message is from your modern-style argument.

DoctorMiggyfaceit used to have serverside AC; I wonder why they decided to create a client.
Every time I think about installing a client I think of esea's buttcoin scandal

We still have a server side AC although what you can detect with a server side AC is very limited. With the growing number of cheats that are not detectable with a server side AC, this is the only way to effectively fight cheating.
