From what I've read this is a new release from Corsair which is retailing for $30 US dollars, which is one of the reasons why it caught my eye.

However considering the big names that are already competing in the gaming mouse market (Razer, Steelseries, Zowie, and Logitech to name some), I'm really curious how this will stack up against its competition.

Sensor is a Pixart PMW 3320 optical sensor (source), and is fairly light at 85 grams. The mouse also works with the CUE software, although I'm not entirely sure if DPI can be adjusted, as the source that I got the sensor info from also stated that the 5 DPI steps were 500, 1000, 2000, 4000, and 6000, which had me scratching my head as to why the defaults would be set to this. However, if this is changeable within the CUE software, then it's not as big of a deal as I may be making of it.

Thoughts?

Don't know if that's a good investment to do, since Nixeus REVEL is around 45$ and goes on sales pretty often where prices are at upper 30s.
Also short edit, seems like there are lots of mice at 30s that tend to use 3320. Like Xornet II, Ozone Neon 3K.

Probably the biggest turn off for me (assuming everything works exactly as expected) is the cable, placed to the side for some reason (and according to the specs it's braided, but it doesn't look braided in any reviews).

When you can get mice with a bit better specs for not much more money, that sounds like it could be a dealbreaker. Just seems like an arbitrary choice that can only do harm.
