Started grinding the half life series starting with half life 2 and I gotta say it's got stellar game design, as in you feel they nudge you ineed the right direction but not overtly or obviously, and there's like a huge range of genres and atmosphere throughout half life 2, and I certainly had a sense of fear and adrenaline. One time I was in raven Holm amd I pressed a button waiting for the elevator to come up while there were like super fast header about skeletons waiting outside, and I was thinking to myself " I don't want to go down". Also I do find half life 2 to be challenging even if you crank it down to easy, since you have to experiment and discover the Buyoncy, and just the general physic engine. One thing that I probably struggled with the most is the heat seeking missiles, since I probably still don't understand inside and out the rocket launcher physics well, so I would just poker face when I shoot a rocket at a plane in a lighthouse and all of a sudden I would die. Idk what to say anymore l, ugh 10/10 would play again and try to speedrun it.
Edit: made this post cause I stayed up all night playing half life 2. I'll share my thoughts later, no one wants to probably hear it and It'll probably end up in the dumpster.

I haven't played half life, but why would you start playing the series at half life 2 I mean there isn't very far you can go from there surely

Half life series are the coolest games to watch speedruns of imo. Probably really enjoyable to play too, might try it.

Half-Life 2 is my favorite story/single-player game of all time, played it so many times, including the Episodes, really a fascinating game design and story, this made me love Valve and try their other games.

Half Life 1 is the best Half Life because bhopping. Half Life 2 feels like the ground is covered in glue.

They're both fucking amazing though.

HL2 was probably the peak of valve story telling and level design, but now you cant really expect something like that from them for a long time. No matter what it will still remain my favorite game series.

hl2 is a great game to speedrun, there's a great mix of outdoor abh/ash and inside movement. and there's new strats being found all the time, though most of them are pretty aids finnicky clips n stuff atm.

i'd recommend playing hl1 as well, it's aged really well. install WON dlls for bhopping which doesn't really break the game if you play through casually and RInput cause there's no way to disable the mouse accel
