I was looking at the be quiet silent base 600/800 one, do you know what is the main difference between the 600 and the 800?

What case? Need to know for size?
8 or 16GB RAM?
Rough idea how much GPU power he needs for those games?

He has a ATX Mid Tower case.
8GB should cut it, since he has never worked with more than 6 and never had any complaints.
Uhh, he plays some Civ 5, and Dirt 3 Rally, and preordered Civ 6. Nothing more really.

I think the obvious thing to improve would be the RAM. It's the reason why pcpartpicker isn't showing the mobo. It's DDR3 but the mobo (and the CPU, at least officially) only support DDR4. The CPU not supporting it is more of a legal thing, Intel also doesn't support overclocking yet they happily sell overclockable CPUs for a premium. The mobo however is physically incompatible. DDR3 won't fit.

Next up: The 212 Evo.
WHYYYYYYYY?!
http://www.teamfortress.tv/post/626834/computer-has-lost-its-processing-power
Am I stuck in the fourth circle of hell?

But I'll repeat it once more:
The 212 Evo is a budget cooler. When it's not on sale there's cheaper coolers that perform the same or better.
Outside of the US it is never on sale that cheap.
When you're not looking for a budget cooler there far better coolers.

So lets see: You're outside of the US, have virtually no budget constraint on the cooler and want to overclock properly (I guess?). Yeah, the 212 Evo makes absolutely no sense here.

You could get something faster and/or larger than the 850 Evo 250GB. Sandisk Extreme Pro is faster and the 850 Pro is even faster than that.

Why two 1 TB HDDs instead of one 2 TB HDD? Why the WD Blue? More expensive, older and slower than Seagate's or Toshiba's alternatives in that price range.

1070 is newer and faster than the 980 Ti unless I'm terribly mistaken. Same price so no reason for the 980 Ti.

A mediocre 750W 80 Plus Gold PSU isn't what you want for a 450W build. Especially when better ones are cheaper or at least the same price.

So here's some improvements:

Didn't change the SSD yet.

WiFi and monitor depend on what he needs/wants. Can figure that out later for him but I'll have to ask him some questions (same for the SSD).

There' usually better/cheaper options than Corsair for mech keyboards.
Again, depends on what he wants.
https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/wiki/buying_guide

Also with some minor changes you could add SLI capabilites to the build above
http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/4wVfPs
RMx 650 because it's slightly better than the G2 650 and only 2£ more.

Thanks for the advice Setsul, I appreciate it. For my keyboard, I want a long lasting mechanical keyboard that is comfortable to use. I also don't mind it being big since I have a large enough table. For my monitor, I'm fine with anything as long as its either 24" or above (I'm not sure if there are monitors that are smaller), and its 144Hz. For the WiFi and SSD, what questions do you have?

Hello
I am looking to build a pc to work on softwares such as Auto Civil 3D, Revit and 3Ds Max, however I lack the knowledge in some aspects of the hardware selection and therefore I would appreciate if someone could help out.
Would I benefit much from a CPU such as the i7 6700k or is that not needed and I should be looking at a lower end CPU such as the i5 6600k?
Also what kind of video card should I be aiming at?
My budget should be around $1200

Follow the link. You can also ask questions on /r/MechanicalKeyboards/, they'll help you out.

For the monitor:
Lightboost yes/no?
FreeSync/G-Sync yes/no?
IPS yes/no?
1080p, 1440p or 2160p (aka 4K)?

For the SSD:
Do you want/"need" a larger/faster SSD?

For the WiFi:
What speed can your router handle? a/b/g/n/ac? Just the model of the router is fine too, I can figure it out. An ethernet cable would obviously be better though.

When are you going to build?

#1536
The 6600K is still high end. Low end is <50$.
Overclocking yes/no?
Any games?
Need/want ECC?
Just making sure: Are you actually in Brazil or just fake flagging. Budget always in local currency please.

I'll have to look up the programs so I'll get to the partlist this evening at best.

Monitor:
I don't particularly want a lightboost. I don't want Free-sync/G-Sync either since I can probably manage with V-Sync and I don't want to exceed my budget. I'm not too sure what the main differences are between an IPS and a standard monitor but I think IPS is more suitable for gaming so I'd prefer an IPS monitor. 1080p is fine, I doubt I'll ever play on resolutions above it.

SSD:
I don't need a faster or larger SSD. If however, it can fit within the £1750 budget considering everything else then a faster SSD would be preferred.

WiFi:
My broadband speed on average is around 20 Mbps

Router model: Netgear CG3101D

I was also concerned whether all the parts would fit in a mid tower case or would you recommend a full tower case?

I plan to build the PC in about a months time.

I am aware that the 6600K is still high end, however I was wondering how much better my performance would possibly be by getting the 6700k for example.
There will be no overclocking and no ECC memory. Regarding the games, CSGO and TF2 might eventually be played but I just want to focus on the programs I use to work and not the games.
Also I need a monitor but no keyboard and no mouse.
And I am indeed in Brazil so if you need it in my currency I should be able to get around 5000BRL.

I'm looking to get a new PC. My current Computer (ha) gets ~90 fps or lower during fights. I'd like to see that go up to 150-200 if possible. I want to record my POV through OBS or GPU software with this new desktop. I'd also like the chipset to be Intel because apparently my headset (Logitech G35) has problems with AMD. I'm not looking to reuse any parts from my old desktop because that'll be used for something else. The games I'll be playing on this new build are TF2, Overwatch, and Borderlands 2. My budget is $600-800. I'm fine with overclocking the CPU and I'd probably like a SSD + HDD for this computer.

Had a talk with
#1533
on Steam, so the 4TB HDD isn't random.

Here's the partlist:
CPU: i5-6500
Mobo: ASRock B150M Pro4S
RAM: 2x 4GB 2400MHz CL15
SSD: 250GB 850 Evo
HDD: 4TB Seagate Barracuda
GPU: AMD R7 360
PSU: Corsair CX450M

total ~700€

Note about the PSU: He said he wanted a better one than the old 350W he had, otherwise I would've gone with a cheaper one. No point in getting a new one though if it's not better than the old one.

You could in theory get a cheaper mobo with only 2 RAM slots, but I think it's better to have the option to upgrade to 16GB later.
120GB SSD would only be 20€ cheaper, but you could do it to get a 5TB HDD. It's definitely noticable sound wise if you do random reads/write (otherwise it's dead silent) but it's blazingly fast because of it.

EDIT1:
#1538
Monitor:
It's not "a lightboost" it's just "lightboost". Also known as ULMB, motion blur reduction or strobing.
I'm not sure if you know what G-Sync/FreeSync do, they're quite different from Vsync.
You should probably read up on both lightboost and G-Sync/FreeSync.

IPS vs TN actually used to be the opposite of what you're thinking. TN is faster so all 120/144Hz panels were TN. You can get >120Hz IPS panels now but they are far more expensive than TN panels. The main advantage of IPS is better colour reproduction. You also get better viewing angles (picture doesn't wash out / colours get weird when you view it from above/below or the sides) but that's not really important for a monitor, on a TV it would basically be a requirement.

So yeah, read up on these things. But the XL2730Z seems like a bad choice so far, you'd be paying a lot for things you won't or can't use. 27", 1440p, Lightboost you said you don't want and even though it's got FreeSync you wouldn't be able to use it with an nVidia card.

SSD:
A faster one should be within budget but we'll see that once the time for the final partlist rolls around in a month.

WiFi:
The router got n so it makes sense but I'd still go for a slightly cheaper adapter. If you're not planning on sending files around in your network anything beyond your actual download still won't be usable anyway.

EDIT2:
#1539
After some googling I've confirmed my suspicion: The i7 will make almost no difference.
https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Support-for-multi-core-processors-with-AutoCAD.html
http://betterrevit.com/tips/hyper-threading-for-revit/

http://www.extremetech.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/3dsMax12-StarDestroyers1.png

In fact since Hyperthreading does almost nothing even a Pentium (should be almost the same speed as an i3) should be fine as long as you get the highest clockrate.

http://allcompanies.website/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/4d71cb769da8660ed87eec36c17ceca2.jpg

Judging by that ~50% slower than an i5.

I'll still have to look up how much GPU power these programs need and how much RAM would be reasonable.
Another edit will follow.

EDIT3:
#1540
Record or stream?
When are you going to build it?
How much fps would you like to get in Overwatch and Borderlands 2 and on which settings? Resolution will be 1920x1080 I presume?

Overclocking comes at a premium these days, especially Intel since they'll let you pay for an "unlocked" CPU and a chipset that allows overclocking. So the price to performance ratio will be worse. Most games are GPU limited so you'll only get better performance in TF2. And you actually have to oc. If you don't really need the performance and up just letting the CPU sit at stock speeds you'd have wasted a lot of money. Depending on your performance goals for Overwatch and Borderlands 2 there might not be enough of the budget left anyway, but if there is, would you definitely want to overclock?

Size for the SSD and HDD?

After some googling I've confirmed my suspicion: The i7 will make almost no difference.

In fact since Hyperthreading does almost nothing even a Pentium (should be almost the same speed as an i3) should be fine as long as you get the highest clockrate.

Hey guys, looking to build myself a PC from all this hardware and would like to hear some opinions/suggestions from more experienced people than me, also to know if this all would actually work or that I forgot something important when choosing these parts.

So here it is:

Motherboard: ASUS H81M-K - Intel H81
CPU: Intel Core i5-4460 3.2 GHz
Graphics Card: GIGABYTE GTX750 Ti Ultra Durable 2 2GB
RAM: Kingston HyperX Fury Black 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1600
HDD: Seagate Desktop HDD - 1TB
PSU: CoolerMaster Elite - 500W

+ a Microtower (Micro-ATX) case with 2x 80mm and 1x 120mm fans.
(Also planning to buy a SSD, a DVD drive and a second monitor for this later on, if that would still work?)

Thanks in advance :)

What are you going to use it for?
Budget?

Skylake (ix-6xxx series) is newer and faster than Haswell (ix-4xxx) and should be the same price.
16GB RAM are overkill for that build.
It would also be wise to drop down to an i3 instead of an i5 and use the money saved from that and the 8GB RAM to get a better GPU instead. That is of course if you're going to use that pc for gaming.
The PSU isn't great.

A second monitor and DVD drive shouldn't be a problem. Plug them in and done. If you want to move Windows and/or programs to an SSD later you'll have to reinstall, just copying won't work. So that'll be some work, but it is possible.

Yes, I mainly plan on using this for gaming.
My budget is ~$600
So you think I should get an i3 and 8GB RAM instead of 16 and get a better graphics card?
What PSU would you recommend me getting?

Thank you for your response.

I have to ask since some people here are fake flagging:
Are you in the Czech Republic? In that case your budget is probably not in $.

Absolutely sure about the RAM, but CPU depends on the game. So it would be nice which ones you'll be playing. In 99% though you'll be limited by the GPU, not the CPU. Even in TF2 which is notoriously CPU heavy going beyond an i3 won't help although that does have different reasons (spoiler alert: TF2 is a piece of shit and uses only 3 threads, so 4+ cores do nothing).

PSU depends on what's available and cheap. There's a lot of good budget PSUs but what's worth buying at 30$ probably isn't worth buying at 60$.

Yes, I am in the Czech Republic. Put the price in $ since I thought most people here are American, sorry for that.
~15000 CZK is my budget in CZ currency.

Alright then, found a one stick 8GB RAM (Kingston HyperX Fury Black 8GB DDR3 1600). Mostly I'll be playing TF2, CSGO and also some games like the new Need for Speed which I'm planning on getting.
Will an i3 be enough?

I just looked it up and you said you're going to build after Black Friday?
I won't make an exact partlist yet since prices will still change.

Some things that you should definitely change though:
You don't need Z170. You can't overclock the i3-6100 and that's basically the sole reason for a Z chipset.
I know the Z170M Pro4S is on sale right now but it probably won't be when you actually buy the parts. Even so the B150M Pro4S is still cheaper.
Always go for 2 sticks of RAM. Shouldn't cost more and you get a few percent more performance.
The Phantom 240 comes with 2 fans preinstalled so you can drop 2 of the 120mm fans. I can help you figure out later which fans to get.

#1547
No problem, I think I do most of the work here and since I'm german and the price will be different either way I might as well use the more accurate ones.

Which shops will you buying from? czc.cz?
For Skylake you'll want DDR4 not DDR3. Also always use 2 sticks. Dual Channel = twice the bandwidth. It's not going to make to much of a difference, but it's a few percent of free performance.

I think CS:GO would benefit slightly from an i5 but it should run well enough on an i3.
For newer games like NFS the better GPU will definitely be worth it.

I forgot to ask: When are you going to build it?

EDIT:
God dammit I'm trying to get rid of this backlog but new people keep posting.
7 within a day? It's a fucking conspiracy.

Monitor:
I decided to settle on this monitor at the end since its about £200 cheaper and I'm not really that worried about the size of the display any more. I read up on G-Sync and I'm assuming that since I'm getting a 1070, I should get G-Sync 144 Hz monitor.

https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/DbvZxr/acer-monitor-umfb0aaa01

^ That is what I chose for it although I'm not sure how good it might be. What are your thoughts on that monitor?

SSD:
Yep that would be great

WiFi:
http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/Chh9TW/tp-link-wireless-network-card-tlwn881nd

That was a much cheaper WiFi adapter I found for almost half the price. Pcpartspicker let me select it in the build so it should be compatible. Thoughts on it?

Should I look for a full-tower case or will a mid-tower suffice?

Thanks

After some googling I've confirmed my suspicion: The i7 will make almost no difference.

http://www.extremetech.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/3dsMax12-StarDestroyers1.png

I will be doing a decent amount of rendering on the PC with most of the programs and from what I have read rendering would be benefit from the better CPU as well as the hyper threading. I might eventually do some video editing which I believe also requires a decent CPU so I would like to also take that into consideration.

Well obviously only if you want G-Sync, but yes, if you want G-Sync/FreeSync and have an nVidia GPU that means you want G-Sync.

That monitor is out of stock everywhere I think though. Alternative:
https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/R998TW/aoc-monitor-g2460pg
FreeSync monitors are cheaper but sadly you'll be buying before AMD releases anything that's competing with the 1070/1080.

WiFi should be fine.
There's even cheaper ones though.
http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/9fQypg/asus-wireless-network-card-pcen10
The USB dongles are even cheaper than that.
Read some reviews if you want to be sure about speeds.

About the case: Yeah I forgot to write that, as you can see there's a lot going on.
You're either severely overestimating the size of the components or severely underestimating the size of cases. There will still be plenty of room in a mid tower with the components you're getting.

#1551
400$ budget including or excluding the monitor?

#1552
Yeah, I wasn't suggesting actually getting a Pentium. I meant that an i5 should be enough since the i7 would very rarely do anything.

Another thing I didn't mention yet since I wasn't finished with the post above is that you won't need a 6600K or 6700K. The -K CPUs are "unlocked" (=overclockable), come with no cooler and are more expensive. You want the non-K version.

#1550

Resolution is 1080p. I'd like to get 120 fps in Overwatch (Current Settings) and 100 fps in Borderlands 2 (Current Settings). If you can only do one, I'd like Overwatch first.
Record.
I can start ordering the parts in about a week or so. Would there be any benefit to me waiting longer?
I'd like to overclock if there's enough in the budget left over, but it's not a must-have.
~120GB SSD and 1TB HDD.

Yes, I'll be buying all this stuff from czc.cz.

Alright so 2x 4GB DDR4 RAM, i3 Skylake, and looking for a better GPU at the moment.

Gonna build it at the end of September, that's when I'll have all my money for this ready.

Thank you alot for helping me, I mean you really helped a lot and I appreciate it. Cheers

I think the pre-installed fans' RPM top is 1200 so idk. Also you didn't suggest a keyboard I'd like to hear your recommendations.

Overwatch is more demanding so you'll get your goal in Borderlands 2 anyway.
Waiting much longer won't do much. A week or two are good because the RX 470's and 480's availability is a bit spotty still.

I've made two partlists to give you a rough idea but the details will change abit in the final part list.

Went with a 250GB SSD since it's only 10$ more.
I know the H170 and Z170 board cost the same right now but I'd expect that to change.
The NH-D14 is more of a placeholder than anything right now. It's overkill but there weren't any good coolers that aren't too tall available at decent prices so instead of searching for a 40$ that requires a bigger case that'll cost 30$ more I just put in a 70$ cooler for now.

Possible upgrades (mostly for the non-OC version, budget is a bit tight with OC):
-16GB RAM (don't think you'll need it and you can always upgrade later)
-RX 470 8GB instead of 4GB (don't think you'll need it either)
-RX 480, not that great of a deal atm, prices being ~300$ for those 8GB models that are in stock, but in a few weeks at hopefully 240/270$ for custom models (4/8GB) with the 470 customs at 200/230$ (4/8GB) it would be worth a thought
-"better"/"nicer" case or whatever
-better PSU

#1555
Are you willing to overclock? Because that would be the best CPU for TF2. With 400$ for CPU, mobo, RAM and cooler it's within budget.

New? Absolutely not. They've all been out of production since 4 or 5 years.
Used? Maybe. But it won't be much faster. 20% at best. You could overclock but it's still nowhere near what you'd get with a new CPU + mobo.
It's probably hard to find any anyway. Anyone who upgrades regularly already got rid of them and those who keep their cpus until they die still have many years to go.

I'm still trying to gauge how much GPU power you need.
I don't think I've asked you this already, if I have just quote it: When are you going to build?

Also I forgot to ask: Do you want a Quadro/FirePro? Or is a GeForce / Radeon fine?
