Tried the monitor with a different pc? The first guess is always windows.

Haven't got another PC laying around unfortunately, really. I wouldn't be surprised if it's related to when I was fiddling around with strobing - maybe it didn't fully uninstall.

If the first guess is Windows, will a Refresh do me any good?

I entered the products into nl.hardware.info, which pulls data from different webshops from the Netherlands. Here’s how that looks like https://i.imgur.com/mGTmcOa.png

Yeah I almost forgot that the non-Founders Edition cards would have better cooling for the same price. Unfortunately, they are pretty much – again – the same price.
https://i.imgur.com/KUlB0fg.png (last two rows are lowest price and average price) Is this the same in other countries too, that the not-Founders are not ~€100 cheaper like the MSRP in USD?

I don’t mind paying for premium stuff, since I am looking forward to playing some GPU intensive games; and to playing 1440p 120Hz with a new display soon™; and since VR is a possibility (not my choice).

Yes for overclocking.

Still, you get better cooling and higher clockrates at the same price.
Those with only the same clockrates and about the same cooling performance as the Founder's Edition are cheaper.

Either way the FE makes no sense.

You could get a better cooler and SSD.

There's cheaper 2400MHz CL15 RAM.

If you want a short PSU the Cooler Master V550 is a better choice (also cheaper), if you're going for performance there's better options as well.

I've got a prebuilt desktop that I want to upgrade the PSU on to add a graphics card later. It's running an Intel i5 4460 and I'm going to be buying either an AMD RX 480 or 470 after those are released. What would be a reliable PSU that won't fry my computer?

Which of the 15,236,879 300W OEM PSUs that exist?
Because if it's a Delta then you're really not going to get anything better anyway.
480 should be 150W, 470 only 110W, either way with that CPU realistically drawing 50W (worst case 80W on linpack) and then some for HDD/SSD, mobo and fans you're barely going to hit 250W with the 480.

Of course if it's a "literal fire hazard just biding its time"-type PSU then I can see why you'd want a new one.

Alright I opened my computer back up and I found that my current PSU is a LiteON PS-6301-08A3. When looking further at its cables I also noticed that it lacks either a 6 pin or an 8 pin power connector. I couldn't find much about the quality of this unit, but the connectors are going to pose a problem for me I suppose. However, your last post means I do not need to go all out on a power supply with high wattage, correct? I plan on keeping this build for several years with maybe only a RAM or SSD upgrade, and I think by the time I do a major upgrade, I'll most likely want to do a new build anyways.

Yeah, that new one makes sense.
Cheapest option would be the CX500.
If you want modular I'd go for the CX450M. It's a bit more expensive than the CX430M but the new CXM series seems to be signficantly better. No reviews yet, just going by a review of the same platform, so there's no guarantee.
If you want 80+ Gold sadly there's nothing with a more fitting wattage, but at least there's something within budget, the GQ 650.

This ram has tighter timings and is cheaper http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820158024
You could get away with a cheaper PSU on a RX 480.http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sparkle-Power-SPI460PFB2-Active-PFC-80-PLUS-PC-460W-24-Pins-SATA-Power-Supply-/261824297714?hash=item3cf5f1baf2:g:w-8AAOSwqu9U1pVj
Motherboard with less memes http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813132571
Don't need an optical drive. Install Windows with a USB thumb drive.
Also who pays for Windows?

I'm assuming that you'll be overclocking?
There are many things wrong with the 212 Evo, especially at that price on this budget.
Not sure if you'll need 16GB RAM, you can obviously get 16 right now but RAM will only get cheaper, so I'm usually going with 8GB and then upgrade if needed.
You mixed something up I guess, the EVGA SuperNOVA NEX series is really old and not related at all to the SuperNOVA G2/P2 series that got all the excellent reviews.
Which case? Full ATX or mATX?

That RAM is cheaper because the timings are looser. Higher timings = higher latency.
The PSU isn't cheap, it's proper garbage tier.
80 Plus nothing. I don't even want to know the OEM and age.
Gross violation of the 5% rule. If you're spending less than 5% of the tower's budget on the PSU you're cheaping out.
Also why are you so desperate to save 40$ if there's still 600$ left?
Most importantly though THERE IS NO PCIE 6 PIN CONNECTOR. IT WOULDN'T EVEN WORK WITH THE RX 480.

Also there's other things on DVD than Windows.

Please put some effort into the trolling next time. Or better yet, don't fucking troll in the PC Build Thread.

Quick question, I have an i5-4670k in my pc and a gtx 660, so I'm looking to upgrade the GPU with one of these new cards coming out. Anyone know if I'd have any issues with bottle necking on that CPU as it's a few years old now, and if yes on which cards?

There's the usual questions:
Why are you upgrading? You obviously want more fps / higher settings in some games otherwise you'd just be wasting money. So which games, how many fps and which settings / resolution are you going for? That will dictate which GPU you'll need and how much CPU power you need. If you need more CPU power than the i5-4670K can provide then
1. You will be bottlenecked.
2. You are fucked because you're really not going to get better single threaded performance than an oc'd recent i5.

So yeah, I need to know which games / settings / resolution / fps you want to run.
Hint: TF2 is always bottlenecked by the CPU, no matter what GPU you're using.

Bottlenecking is mostly a buzzword like future proofing. Most people have heard it, most people misuse and what people actually think it means only applies once in a million cases.

That clears it up a bit, I have a 1080p/144hz (possibly 1440p in future) monitor and would be looking to play stuff like the witcher at max settings. If you cant get much better than my current cpu then I'll probably go for it with a new card

Dear Setsul,

I have a fairly old computer, I get about 30-40fps in fights, and it has been going downhill for a while now. I am looking to replace everything including a monitor although I may be able to salvage my case and power supply from my current one. The most I could spend all in is about $1200USD, any suggestions?

Sincerely,
Pastapocalyptic

A few question beforehand:
1. How many fps do you want or just as many as possible?
2. Which PSU and case? You could also keep the HDD probably. That said with your budget a completely new build wouldn't be a problem.
3. Overclocking yes or no?
4. Only TF2 or other games as well?

I'm probably looking to upgrade my mobo/gpu/cpu really soon and I'm not sure how power consumption comes into play. I currently have a 550W; was looking at this cpu but I'm assuming the gfx card takes up most of the power. What should I look for if I'm looking for something that can fit my needs?

maxieWhat should I look for if I'm looking for something that can fit my needs?

Idk, maybe start telling us what your needs are?

Not sure if you need an i7.
Also no idea if you've got a decent PSU which can actually supply 550W (which would leave at least 300W for the GPU so no limitations at all) or one of those "everyone buys an oversized PSU anyway so lets just sell this 400W PSU as 550W no one will mind, btw it bursts into flames if you draw >450W" kind of PSUs.

this power supply I've had since about a year ago.
My CPU currently: Intel Core i5 4430 @ 3.00GHz
GPU: MSI Radeon R9 270X 2GB
Motherboard: ASRock B85M-ITX

All I'm looking for is an affordable upgrade to run games at higher settings than low-medium. I'm having trouble running OW right now (maybe ~40 fps?) I'm not sure whether or not compatibility is an issue; my parts were put together by people at a store and the AMD card and Intel processor might be conflicting or something? I dunno

That's a pretty good PSU, I don't see any problems even with a 300W GPU.

There is no compatibility íssue. You wouldn't expect compatibility issues between your CPU and HDD either, right?
Rule of thumb is: Does the mobo have the right connection for it? If yes then it's most likely compatible.

Which settings in OW? On Ultra / Epic drops to 40 / 40 average seem normal for your GPU.

I think you only need a better GPU and that's it. The RX 470 or RX 480 should be just about what you need, which one depends on how many fps on which settings you want or how much you're willing to spend.

However the RX 480 means two more weeks of waiting, the RX 470 a bit more still.

As my last thread indicated my RAM indeed was fucked. I need advice on what new RAM to buy.

My rig:

660ti AMP! edition by Zotac
Intel Core I5 - 4670 K
Asus Z87M - PLUS
2 x 8 GB CMZ16GX3M2A1866C10 CORSAIR (BROKEN)
HD SSD CORSAIR CSSD-N256GB3-BK
COOLER MASTER Elite 330U (RC-330U-KKN1-GP) case
My old HDD that's running as a slave.

The guys at a computer shop close to where I live have offered me 2x8GB Kingston Hyper X for 749.00 BRL(222.068 US dollars) and 2x 8GB "normal" Kingston's for 599 BRL (177.595 US dollars).

If you want to save money go with 2x4GB.

I can't help you with a decision between these two because I can't even tell which one is faster. There's more than 20 different 16GB kits from Kingston so I need either specs (frequency / timings) or the exact part number (should look similar to the Corsair one CMZ16GX3M2A1866C10, just a bunch of letters and numbers).
