Hi everyone,

After reviewing the forum rules, I would like to note, that this is not an advertisement.
This post has been created to offer volunteer positions for a web project involving games such as Team Fortress 2.
Mods, apologies if this is the incorrect section to post in.

Introducing BattlePoints

A new platform which allows players to earn points on their favorite game servers, then spend points on items in our MarketPlace.

http://i.imgsafe.org/e6d3456e5c.png

What is it?

For the first time ever, you can play your favorite online games on a BattlePoints server and earn points. Earning points will be easy, simply join an official BattlePoints server and begin scoring points by getting frags, winning games, assisting your team and being interactive on the BattlePoints website. Players can also lose points by dying, losing games. You can then spend points in Our Marketplace by purchasing items such as T-Shirts, Gaming hardware, Vouchers, Virtual Game Items and much more!

What is a MarketPlace?

Our self-perpetuating MarketPlace will provide awesome items for players to purchase with earned points. Players who wish to contribute to the MarketPlace by providing digital downloads can also be awarded points. The MarketPlace may include physical items provided by BattlePoints such as T-shirts, hoodies, gaming hardware and peripherals and exclusive digital items submitted by users such as in-game items, maps and skins, eBooks and more.

What’s in it for me?

We want every online player to experience a new way of gaming, here are some great features that will be included with the launch of BattlePoints:

  • Players who contribute to the MarketPlace can earn points as well.
  • Points are weighted differently for each online game, creating a balanced earning system for players.
  • Easy sign up process.
  • Players are awarded badges for high earnings and participation.
  • Player point history is displayed on your profile.
  • Create teams and add friends.
  • Spend points on items in the MarketPlace
  • Discussion forum
  • Frequent updates, bug fixes, new features
  • And, it’s FREE!

KiNGHow exactly are these games played? Pub settings, or ESEA, ETF2L, UGC, OZFortress rules?

Initially, TF2 servers will be Vanilla pub configured. In order for BattlePoints to grow from inception, we will need to fill a large user base quickly. Competitive TF2 servers are planned for the future and will enable players to create their own teams and challenge other teams, (much like the current lobby systems, but more formulated for competitive play). Teams that win rounds/competitions will be awarded points etc.

Although BattlePoints is at a very early development phase, we have more design concepts and are currently working on a full developers specifications document, wire-frames, user journey maps and more.

Right now we are consolidating ideas and transforming them into viable documentation for people to understand and utilize for development.

We have three people so far, a business strategist/analyst, myself (designer of 8 years) and a junior developer. All based in Melbourne, Australia. We are obviously seeking to quickly advance with support from passionate gamers who have time on their hands to volunteer for this developing project.

Apologies, but I'm not willing to publicly disclose peoples names online, it also doesn't make a difference, although if people are genuinely interested in helping out, you can PM me or contact me through steam and I can discuss much more detail about the project and who we are.

My name is Tom.

I'd be discussing it with a steam account that seems to have been made shortly before this thread though. It doesn't make a good impression, and if you look around most other public projects at least have human looking steam accounts attached to them, and surely you'd look to have some public leadership at some point?

I'm not asking for Elon Musk here, but you do get a lot of people hiding their identities for less than noble purposes, mainly their existing reputation being trash. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ymmv

We plan on using advertising as the primary money flow. We are also thinking of adding the ability for players to purchase points, although it would be discouraged since it defeats the purpose of the idea. We wouldn't make much money as it would be used for server costs etc.

I appreciate the interest guys, I just created that account because I wanted to take the BattlePoints name for steam and use it for this purpose only. I don't think there will be a lot of 'public leadership', the service will be mostly automated. I understand your point of view, but this is totally legitimate and genuine. I'm not trying to scam or steal or whatever. I have a passion for games and think I have a great idea and need some help launching it off the ground.

hobbbesyou're kinda dodging/missing Kenneths question.

What is your prior involvement in the TF2 community?

Its seems pretty off to just come in as an outsider and beg for volunteers for your project.

I'm just a pubber who plays a few games. TF2 is one but I generally play CS:GO.
I was suggested to post here and was told it has a strong community following.
I'm not attempting to 'beg' for help. I hope it doesn't sound like that.

The idea sounds very cool; however, are you aware that community servers (pubs that are not valve servers) are kind of dead in tf2 right now and most people won't find your servers through quickplay? You will need a lot of advertising to let people know that your thing exists. And unless your prizes are so dank that people will actually commit to pubs to get them, you'll have to keep up that advertising so you always have new people coming in when the others get bored/decide to just click quickplay.

Also, you might have to worry about moderating your servers against cheaters at some point because even though lmaobox is being detected now, new hacks can always appear and people will use them in pubs undisturbed for 10 years before valve finds out.

Ok here's the thing, When people in this community are being skeptical of your idea it's partially because we have had issues with scammers and such, but also because we've had so many people come out of nowhere, get our hopes up with some ambitious project, and end up disappointing because they didn't understand what they were trying to do.

I'm sure you think you've come up with a great idea, but what you've described is a very ambitious project, and you are asking people to donate their time to bring it together, but you haven't really demonstrated you really understand how much work it is to create and run this kind of site.

That said, there are people that have successfully started projects based around tf2 in the past, so its certainly possible, everyone is just trying to make sure you know what you are getting into

Good examples:
http://www.teamfortress.tv/27662/tf2stadium-com
http://www.teamfortress.tv/17109/saloon-tf

Bad examples:

Thanks Spartan.

Yes, servers will have to be moderated. Although PHP can use point regulation codes which can be built into the core system to disallow points accumulated at a rate that is deemed too high, and other examples like that. I am aware that community servers are on the downfall since Valve introduced their own servers, hopefully this idea will reignite community servers a bit. According to Steam's Game and Player statistics, TF2 has the third most online players for a game, so there are actually many people playing it. TF2 is one game that will be using the points system, other games that have APIs or can be modded to talk with MYSQL can also be added to the list.

And yes, hopefully the MarketPlace items will be dank.

Yeah but you see mate, almost all of those people play on valve servers and most of those who do play on community servers are probably trading/idling/ponying/whatever they do. If you're looking to "reignite" community servers, you'll need huge advertising and servers in US as well as EU. Not saying it couldn't happen but it's not easy. Most of these players probably don't even frequent r/tf2 or other community sites so unless you get some top streamers to play your servers and people open the main menu to see "PLAYING PUBS FOR PRIZES" a bunch of times, I'm not sure how you'd let them know you exist.
Even huge communities like multiplay or Star's server that's linked in all his videos aren't really frequented that much anymore.
Your idea is basically faceit for pubs, but I'm not convinced it'll be easier to pull off; I think it might actually be harder to do for pubs than competitive because there's no easy way of getting pub players interested.

This project will benefit a lot of gamers and this idea is already turning into something more. I will be working extremely hard on this as well, don't mistake it for me just sitting back and letting people do all the work. I'm not about that at all. I am thinking of some sort of remuneration, but everyone involved will be credited and have access to everything that is available and more.

You are right it will be challenging and a lot of work. However, the more games that use the system, the more advertising it will generate.I think people would rather play a server that offers something than play a server that offers nothing. It also adds a competitive feel.

Bad examples:
http://www.teamfortress.tv/20505/tf2games

Yes it's ambitious! I understand your skepticism. And no I can't make any promises except that I will try my very best to make this happen. And I do think it is a great idea, I hope more people share my enthusiasm and point of view. I have done enough research to know its possible and with the right people can be done well. I have successfully setup test servers with points systems connecting with gaming servers and done a lot of research to come to this point. But my coding skills are limited and need some help. This project is not only based around TF2 but a variety of games can be integrated.

I don't know anything about 'skail badwater' but having just looked at their underwhelming website. I can tell you it will be nothing like it.

ArieYou have an idea and now you "just" need people to build it for free, genius!

There is a business strategist/analyst on the team

BattlePointsAndKennethYou're still not saying who you are.
Apologies, but I'm not willing to publicly disclose peoples names online, it also doesn't make a difference, although if people are genuinely interested in helping out, you can PM me or contact me through steam and I can discuss much more detail about the project and who we are.

My name is Tom.

And my name is Kenneth Anderson. You can contact me at Kenneth@ozfortress.com if you're interested in reaching out to the local Australian community.
