These threads are pretty gross. If a person is self-conscious enough to make an alt, download a cheat, use that cheat against other people, and get caught doing so, they should be punished. "Oh, pubs don't matter" is such a stupid response. Let's face it, none of TF2 matters. You're effectively putting all competitive players on a pedestal over pub players and saying, "you don't matter" to those pub players.

You say you want to give a person you like another chance--I'm all for it, but they got caught cheating, so their second chance should come after the same punishment associated with people who are caught cheating in a competitive setting. They're still ruining people's fun all the same, it's just a different set of people. It's unfortunate that most leagues don't care about what happens outside of their league.

For what it's worth, I'm not saying hassassin is guilty; I haven't inspected the evidence, but I do agree with whoever mentioned how bizarre the hivemind mentality of defending cheaters is when it comes to this community.

It's also disappointing to see just how many people are drilling the OP into the ground, when all he was attempting to do was raise awareness that a somewhat top level player in this community has been allegedly proven to be cheating and lying about that cheating, even if his methodology wasn't perfect. I, for one, would prefer to know if my competitor has been caught cheating against other people, regardless of whether or not that was in a competitive setting.

all I've been trying to say is that response to a pub cheater is a different response to a comp cheater. this is not a controversial conclusion, one is a serious setting that often carries genuine money as prize, the other is a public server. under this same logic, one could propose we ban anyone who's been kicked from any server for griefing, since we also don't want griefers in a competitive setting.

Hacks are hacks. If I got to play against an ex-cheater or someone who cheats in pubs 'for teh lolz' would I trust this person to play clean? Of course not, he/she has shown that integrity/fair play or whatever you want to call it doesn't matter to him.

Leagues should have a list of 'trusted' ban-programs, meaning that if you get VAC banned, EAC banned, etc you're out. So far I only know of VAC being used in this way, why not expand it to other trusted sources that operate in a similar fashion?

@indecency bullet is a confirmed cheater who cheated in 6v6, he went unpunished and is playing demo in IM. Witch-hunting in general is dumb, but if you actually want to rid the scene of cheaters that is the best place to start.

UGC Updated their policies back in May. Cheating in a match results in a 1 year bar, cheating outside a match results in a 3 month ban (6 months for special cases)

The amount of misinformation going around in this thread is almost sad.

color triggerbots are detected, what are you talking about. i don't think he went out of his way to code a private color triggerbot because of how inefficient it is.

yeah you don't know what you're talking about. you don't have to inject external cheats either, how come they get detected?

color triggerbots are highly inefficient and to use one with a margin of success you need an internal pure bypasser. why go through the hassle of using a bad, inaccurate, slow triggerbot when you can use a fast and precise internal which you can conceal compared to a mathack.

Mat hacks still work in sv_pure 2 to some degree
SMAC isn't the greatest program, it won't catch the most subtle of cheaters, but it WILL catch the most obvious ones (Which honestly is most as Pub hackers tend to hack for the sake of pissing people off and not to "get away with it").
During the development of my own plugin I started to bring in parts of SMAC to get a sort of "bundle of plugin protection" going on, I even had a hacker I met up in a valve server come into my server to test his cheat against my anti-cheat.
While he was in my server I decided to test out how sensitive the Aimbot Detection module was; SMAC notes the first "detection" as a possible false flag and then gives the user 4 more "detections" before banning. The detection itself only occurs when a player is being fairly obvious with their hack, nothing that you would accidentally do with a really good flickshot.

The screenshot provided by OP showing the red soldier is 100% from a mat hack which are still working to this day as they have been updated for steampipe.

Shameless plug: Use a combination of smac_antiwallhack and integritf2 on your match servers so you don't have to worry about walling (it blocks wall hacks a good 95% of the time).

Back to the point on hand. Hasassin likely didn't cheat during official matches, but that doesn't make him any less of a piece of shit for doing it in the first place. How nice he is is irrelevant...
I clearly recall people rallying against players hacking on alts in the infamous TFTV Cheater/Hacker thread AND a thread over at UGC pertaining to a certain plat heavy, so it's kind of stupid to see people getting so defensive about it now.
