My mother recently discovered what Netflix is and now I can't do anything when she is watching it which seems to be during all my scrims and when ever I have a deadline for school work. I can't even download something like a YouTube video when she is doing this and it is driving me insane. Is there something I can do to make my internet better for when I need it and she is doing this? Can I make my internet priority on my router and cap her internet so I don't have a problem anymore? Does anyone else have any problems like this and they found a way to fix it and wouldn't mind sharing?

Thanks.

step 1: log into her Netflix
step 2: force 720p instead of auto or highest or whatever the default is
step 3: enjoy life again

Are you on WiFi or Ethernet?

If on WiFi, Ethernet is your go to option, if the router isn't too far from where your computer is. I swear by it.

you can give yourself higher priority with qos on your router but there aren't many good user friendly guides on how to set it up and I don't have the time to guide up through it.

I think if you can access your router setup page online you can limit the amount of bandwith(?) and DL and stuff it uses

Ok, if ur computer is not too far from the router, your mission is to get an ethernet cable, and hookup your computer with one. You simply plug into the back of your router, and into your computer. Ethernet wifi is unaffected, and is very solid. I swear, once you get ethernet, you won't be able to go back :P

It honestly depends on how much bandwidth you've got. If you're on a dump-dump internet connection like me, and you only have 3 mbps download on a good day, there will never be a netflix setting that will fix your instability - even if somebody is watching a 240p youtube video on my connection I simply can't play any on-line games lol. If you have more than 3 mbps download, then yes, setting the offending netflix to 480p-720p would hopefully fix your problem (I can't watch any 720 video even if I'm exclusively on my own internet connection without it buffering constantly :( ).
