I love the irony with this, League players used to shit talk and be the most unmannered players ever, then the tribunal comes in and they all turn into the most whiny and sheltered players.

Good. It's a video game, not a soapbox to demonstrate how colorfully you can insult someone. If you are not a mook, this doesn't seem to be a problem.

Also as someone that played soccer at an actual competitive level anyone who thinks that people at professional and semi-pro levels of actual sports doesn't talk shit is completely clueless.

EDIT: If it's true though that this guy was talking the kind of shit that TF2/DotA players talk and was on riot payroll it makes sense that he would get banned. If he was just calling people bad then I wouldn't care if he got warned 15 times, but if he's calling people faggots while streaming for like 10k people then obviously riot would be buttmangled.

There's a real big difference between shit-talking your opponents and shit-talking the players on your team. The vast majority of flaming goes on within the team, and when a pro player does that, it encourages players of all skill level to do the same, actively driving away players. Riot's revenue is based on having as many players as possible buying skins and rune pages and shit, so of course they need to provide a healthy atmosphere for people to play in where play poorly does not result in your teammates telling you to get cancer and die, like IWD (the player), did maaaaaaanny times. You people are retarded if you think this is at all comparable with other professional sports, where almost all games are played with the same group of teammates, and shit-talking is just a way to build hype for a match. He was banned for his behavior in solo queue, where he's playing with 4 random players, and telling them all that they should kill themselves, etc. The situations are entirely different.

Go play a game of basketball at your local gym and come back with your findings

Shit talking is fine to an extent, but it can completely go over the line. Imagine doing the same things he did during a PUG in any gym, after a very short while, you would either get the shit beat out of you or kicked out. At a professional level, you seem to forget that things can be censored, so the majority population won't see the major offenses. When this happens and they are unable to censor it, then heavy fines are usually given to that player/team involved like technical fouls, unsportsmanlike conduct, and monetary fines. Since Riots' revenue comes from streams, and selling other crap (IDK, don't play the game), it largely affects their profits, so why wouldn't they stop something they feel is directly hurting themselves? It's not like you can kick anyone's ass anymore for being a total shitfuck, sadly.

Because games of basketball at my gym are broadcasted to thousands of viewers. Stop making retarded arguments if you want to be taken seriously.

Your argument was that it was with random people, a basketball pick-up is just that. If you're going to try and find a real world analogue for a professional player playing frequently with randomly assorted teams in front of thousands of people then good luck.

But trust me, I am very concerned with whether or not you take me seriously.

Yeah, totally. Imagine if he said what he said in a pool, under the water, mid balloon fight at a city fair surrounded by two thousand pound gorillas, eating a triple warf cone of ice cream, during a torrential rain storm, eventually he would either get smacked in the mouth with a shoe or get all of his tickets taken away.

IS THIS REAL LIFE?

Wow, just wow. I have no clue what you are attempting to say or attempting to even elude to. Are you just taking a realistic hypothetical and turning it to the absurd? If so, was the point to be somehow clever or to point out something useful?

It's about as absurd as comparing saying something in a video game pug compared to saying it in the gym. I know when I'm there, personally, when I see someone unable to complete their reps, whatever, I just yell out obscene gestures like fgt, scrub, etc. all the time and nothing ever happens.

If someone turns up in the Tribunal 8/9 times, there's obviously something wrong.

To even get in the Tribunal you have to be reported by the people you play with a large number of times over a period of time. And most people who actually judge in the Tribunal are extremely lenient. The fact that he was punished 8/9 times and did not change his behavior...well, that warrants harsher action.

LOL!! What Gym do you go to? If anyone yelled that at my gym they would be asked to leave very quickly, especially yelling out faggot. Do you honestly expect me to believe that you have a gym membership that cares more about your single 30 bucks a month more than those that you could be offending, which they would lost more money? After all, I feel like people forget it's a business for profit and they will always do what is best for their bottom line. Unless, of course, it's in your basement.

For the majority of players, if you go through the Tribunal that many times you'll just get permabanned, the only reason this is different is because the player was also a competitive player, so they can't exactly ban him from the game and still let him compete in the pro circuit.

Also this player was a rare example of someone who didn't get banned before getting his account to a relatively high ELO, that's why this is a somewhat rare case.

d3ny<ten> still find it funny you can get banned for shittalking, but if you cheat in the finals of a major tournament with a huge prize, you just get fined

Personally I'd much rather get banned for a year than fined $30,000 for a mistake of the tournament organizers.

Luckily some of us have found reason and are trying to prevent the extinction of these lovely animals. I can't say the same about you DimitriT. It's because indifferent and ignorant people like you that we have come to this situation where these marine mammals are in grave danger of coming extinct.
