PSA: ESEA Client Update no longer causes stutter
1

Before the update today, causing the client to be constantly on, I would experience severe stutter and fps drops whenever playing on a non-ESEA server with the ESEA client open. I downloaded the update and restarted and now experience no stutter or FPS loss when playing in non-ESEA servers, several other people have had the same experience.

I'm just making this thread because a LOT of people were complaining about having to uninstall and reinstall just to play TF2, as far as I know this is not the case. So, this update doesn't effect non-cheating players at all.

If this is true across the board for ESEA TF2 players, then maybe this update wasn't so bad after all.

Yes it does. I work for a business where I have to frequently use my local PC to view into sensitive documents, servers, switches and routers on a regular basis. ESEA makes a literal backdoor that can at the VERY least view what's on my screen at any given moment. Knowing this I would be putting my job in jeopardy just by installing the ESEA client, and not disabling it on a regular basis.

I know the argument about bitcoin mining is a bit old, but ESEA has already proven to have a lapse in judgement of giving someone enough control for something like that to slip through, that I have no idea that it may happen again or not.

Am I going to install the ESEA client to play matches? Yes. Am I going to do everything I can to make sure the client is disabled when I'm not in a match? Yes.

If I get banned for doing so that's fine with me.

I know some people might think it's a joke, but seriously it only take 1 overly trusted idiot/asshole to fuck everything up.

marqueewhere's your proof that it actually does screencap and download/upload files

Cause you're to lazy to look. HERE

Just as a FYI "This information collection is not strictly limited to when you are logged in to the ESEA Client." this basically means the last statement "screenshots while you are logged in and playing a game through the ESEA Client" doesn't necessarily have to be true in terms of legal matters.

i think comanglia has a real argument over being upset that esea's client will be always active if he works with sensitive information

you can't really risk a leak even if it's less than 0.01% of a chance of that happening, especially when working with confidential data

Your PC is always in jeopardy if you are using closed source, non-free software.

It's much more obvious with the ESEA client, because it is a particularly egregious piece of non-free software, but the fact of the matter is that the heavy hand of proprietary and closed source software affects us all. This is an illustrative example.

If it were quantifiable that they use it to view anything that is confidential it breaches their massive legal restrictions.

Keep in mind it doesn't necessarily have to be ESEA doing the wrong doing. Installing the client opens a backdoor the could be potentially exploited by a 3rd party.

Dropbox also has a backdoor that can be abused. If the product is abused and is found to be the cause, it is at the liability of the company iirc.

Right and for that same reason I disable dropbox when I don't need to upload something.

shoutout to reload tho for managing to optimize an anti-cheat client for this broken ass game

actually its maybe because the client itself isnt running full time just the driver? i'm not good with these things, cause I just updated and I can't find any trace of the actual client

because any information might be able to become workarounds, making it ultimately counterproductive?

Sketchy as all hell. He mentions several times like this "If you don't like it you don't have to give me money"

childish, honestly.

lpkane#85 why does something have to be "conducive to business" ?

i don't want your money if you don't trust me, is there any possible way i can make that clearer for you?

bright side, uninstalling the esea client is rather easy. Having checked after installing for what I need to look for with a program called "hijack this" I knew just incase what I needed to get rid of. After uninstalling through the program manager everything but sub folders for esea uninstalled. I still went through process of removing the subfolder, but their really was no REAL leftovers. I also did a check with adwcleaner just to see if I missed anything else, and checked all my drivers and their really was nothing leftover.
