KhakiTino_the death of TF2? I really hope the era of first person rail shooters being the biggest, most popular and most sponsored competitive games comes back soon, tired of this MOBA shit

I agree, but as much as many of us would want it, I don't see it happening anytime soon or ever :(
Too many people want an easier gaming experience they can quickly learn and have a lot of fun in which occurs much more in MOBAs(more of LoL).

Looks interesting but I hope it doesn't play as clunky as it looks. One of my main gripes with UT3 was how mech like the character and movement felt. Tourny FPSs need a light, fluid feel. Looks cool though.

if you watch the other dev videos, it looks like they are playing with a controller, when they are really using a mouse. Pretty sure its just an issue with the devs not being familiar enough with the controls yet.

You can't censor/cut a free game so there's that. If you didn´t buy UT from a retailer in Germany, you´ll be greeted by this screen should you be on the lookouts for any part of the series:

i think it explicitly means that the game is actually free instead of "free but pay for x, y, z features" free

there's some info about it here:
https://wiki.unrealengine.com/Unreal_Tournament

When the game is playable, it will be free. Not free to play, just free.
We’ll eventually create a marketplace where developers, modders, artists and gamers can give away, buy and sell mods and content. Earnings from the marketplace will be split between the mod/content developer, and Epic. That’s how we plan to pay for the game.

also that first map they show in that video at ~1:30 looks awesome

Didn't want to make a new thread, but they're releasing a lot of gameplay footage and updates on their youtube channel. The game is looking really promising.

Skip to ~2:40 for gameplay footage.

It's really obvious how slow the movement is outside. It looked cool enough inside with all the wall jumps, but outside there's not much movement to be done besides dodging.

If the movement is the same as UT2K4 then she's just not showing the extent of what you can do with dodge jumps. If you dodge at an angle you go further, and if you jump while dodging you extend it significantly.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h39VlYXRo5E

It's not Quake and there won't be a bunnyhop/strafe jump way to maintain momentum and speed around the map. But there is/was a lot of cool movement tricks in UT2K4.

hopefully they up the movespeed a little bit because it looks a bit slower than ut99 and ut2k4, i'm hoping they take the feedback to change that

EDIT: well they said there wouldn't be dodge jumps apparently idk fuck im getting depressed already

EDIT2: their forums has a "movement feedback" section where there seems to be a huge amount of people wanting UT99 base movespeed back

OK THEY JUST INCREASED THE MOVESPEED TODAY MAKING IT APPARENTLY UT99 SPEED

Someone's been compiling the builds so you can download and play.
Also, here's a video of Fatal1ty playing a pre-alpha build.
Looks fun but I never played any UT, anyone with UT experience have insight or comments on these?

If this Fatal1ty clip is with the newest build then it's still too slow. UT99 (in 95% of servers) had people move at a base 1056 movespeed. UT4 started out with people going at 900 movespeed, which isn't just slower - it's A LOT slower. The majority of their forum feedback has been asking for the game to be faster, and just last week they increased the move speed to 960. If this is what 960 looks like, it's still too slow.

Since UT3 isn't worth mentioning, I'll just kind of outline the differences between UT2K4 and UT99. UT99 had the fastest base move speed, but the movement was really simplistic. You could double tap a direction to dodge, but it was used for just that, to dodge occasionally. UT2K4 had a slower base move speed than UT99, but to make up for it they had new movement mechanics. Wall jumps, double jumps, and dodge jumps. You could compare dodge jumps to a longer circle strafe jumps from Quake, and it was pretty much the fastest way to get around. Because the movement mechanics in these games are really different, most UT veterans are separated between favoring UT2K4 or UT99 - with the majority (based on server population now) liking UT99.

UT4 has lowered the base move speed AND removed double jumping and dodge jumping from the game, effectively slowing down the game by a lot. Both groups are asking for changes. The devs themselves are saying they want to be cautious with making the game too fast. I still have faith (idk why) since the devs are actively looking at feedback and tentatively accepting that their fanbase wants changes, but I don't know if they're going to actually listen or try to compromise.

SORRY FOR NERD ESSAY UT99 WAS MY FIRST FPS I LOVED THAT GAME
