If you bait their rocket into them and hit the first shot, you will win the fight 90% of the time against an unbuffed soldier. Worst case you trade with them due to self damage.

I'm pretty sure he's medic since he said "so I won't die to soldiers with 70%" (I'm guessing 70% uber)

Sorry man, misread as dying 70% of time to soldiers. In the case of medic you just need to surf the first rocket.

In my experience, soldiers tend to miss more based on the distance rather than how far to the right or left they should shoot. I find changing distance to be possibly even more effective than going from left to right.

When a soldier bombs in to try and kill you they will probably shoot all of their rockets as fast as they can before he gets frag'd by your team. Take advantage of this and time your dodging with his predictable firing speed

be aware of all of the possible ways a soldier can get splash damage on you.

REALLY IMPORTANT INVITE ILLUMINATI MOVEMENT TIP
when u c a rocket press one of the movement keys to to move out of the way. remember to actually dodge buddy.

Anticipate when they're going to shoot a rocket and when that rocket will hit you. Since most soldiers shoot at a player's feet, you can use this to your advantage and use the rocket to launch yourself further away from the soldier, also known as "surfing". Make sure not to fuck up and have the rocket send you directly up or toward the soldier.

MagusThorn are you still gonna give me a ride to GXL

Meb lives about 2 minutes from where I'm living and the rough plan is having him rent a vehicle for me / maybe 1 more depending on space. I am not going to be the one driving due to not being 25 and unable to rent a car.

So to sum it up: Inconclusive, sorry.

the smart answer is know when he'll jump and call to bring a scout with you to deny him

the movement answer is - hesitate going thru chokes when you know he will jump you, surf his rockets, keep your eye focused on him the whole time so you know when to jump his rocket... have good movement.

but imo you should focus on using your smarts and your comms to turn the soldier jump into a free pick -- rather than reactively trying to rely on your movement to dodge him.

the best way I can think of putting that into practice is watch your demos where you're dying to single soldiers, and try to call for your team to support you when you're coming up on that situation again.

Stay at medium range and use +fwd and +back to dodge his ground shooting until such a time that you *know* you can kill him with 1-2 well placed closer shots - while being able to tank ~100 damage. If such a situation doesn't present itself - continue to engage at medium range using +fwd and +back to foil ground shooting - and maintain situational awareness so his buddies don't surprise you.

If the soldier manages to come closer than medium range with you move vertically to force him to actually hit you or various convenient props in order to deal damage, or worse yet, use a shotgun.

If the soldier decides to go into the air go full +fwd mode because he's just killed himself assuming you can hit him.

He's a medic. Why is there so much scout advice?

Try and have yourself positioned in a way (pretty much all the time/any time there's an open space) that you are able to surf a rocket. On that same note, be careful of soldiers that will actually delay their first rocket on you (i.e. wait for you to jump), so you have no momentum to surf the rocket and go straight up or nowhere. On a similar note, the safest place you can be is with your team - try your best to not run away from them if someone is on you. If you make it harder for them to kill the guy on you then it increases your likelihood of dying.

I spent oodles of seasons watching scouts die and or frag soldiers - literally just watching them 3 hours a night because medic is basically just a voyeur who watches other people play video games while you spam wasd and blame everyone else whenever you die (which interrupts your voyeur session) lol. I like to think I got to watch at least a few good/decent scouts play in my time lol.

I always thought surfing was the most useful thing in the world. It depends where the soldier bombs you. If the soldier bombs you and they're directly in front of your face, hitting jump+crouch to surf their rocket would be the easiest way if the soldier has aim at all and hits you. From that distance it should be enough to keep you space away from the soldier and give your team extra time to kill the bomber. If it's any more distance away, you can bait their rockets where you are and probably take no damage, or if you do take rockets it shouldn't be too much.

If you're inside a really tight room then jumping around isn't really recommended since you'll hit a ceiling and be easier to hit. Sometimes you'll have to get creative and jump around on props and hope the soldier will aim for the ground instead of you.

Also, never forget to comm if someone is jumping you. That actually helps a lot more than you probably think. Don't run away from your pocket either. It'll end up making it way more difficult for them to kill whoever is chasing you.

play some mge and focus more on dodging/surfing your opponents rockets than hitting your own. People will call you a faggot but it definitely helps. After a couple of games you'll get a feel for it. In general, playing soldier will help. A lot of good medics can play soldier to a decent level as well and vice versa. Don't spam spacebar when you're trying to surf, its a bad habit and good soldiers will read it and deny you.

Also, ultiduo.
