If they can ever make it feel like a semi-polished experience, I'll give it another go.

Yeah, I'm going to wait on reviews of how the game is performance/bug wise before I make that purchase. If it's anything like the Day Z mod (waiting 10+ minutes for your character to generate, as well as all the other bugs present) then I'll probably just skip out on it.

It's for the die-hard DayZ fans who want to pay to help try to find/fix bugs. If you want a clean game, not for you.

Its definitely to get it on steam so that the general (massive) DayZ fanbase know that progress on the standalone version is being made. While it is pricey, they have a dedicated team of developers who will surely make this a great game.

If you haven't paid too much attention to the development of the game, one of the largest changes they've put in is reworking the networking on the engine to implement a 'network bubble'. What that does is only provides players with information of things that are within X meters of them (I think he said 1400?). The way it works in the ARMA series is every player on the map has all the information on the map, where every player/zombie/item/ect is. This prevents people from running scripts to teleport everyone into the ocean, ect.

The zombie AI is also ran on the server instead of the client (arma).

Both of those features will boost client FPS. Because they have access to the engine, they've been able to transfer performance heavy functions over into it making them perform up to a 100x quicker.

fun game/mod but unless the anticheat has been improved then i'd rather keep away

They added a lot of stuff since the last time I played which was around the early days of this mod. Seems to have only gotten better and the fanbase has grown a lot. I'm personally probably gonna pick this up in the future.

does anyone know how available modding will be to the game? I mostly played epoch and Hard Corps, which made a bunch of changes to make the game a lot more realistic. i will still pick it up, but if it has mod support, i'll be really happy.

It's the same price point that the Arma 3 Alpha was at, so this will be the cheapest price for it until it goes Gold.

Probably never gonna happen, Rocket doesn't want hackers and the easiest way to hack will be client-side addons.

Right now there aren't going to be any third party mods or even servers (makes everything nice and easy to debug for them), but he did say they will support modders. edit: I misread your post, thought you were talking about server side mods.

Yeah I stopped playing the mod after an update destroyed my fps and made it impossible to join a server. But I'm really excited about this. Gonna wait on feedback and see if it goes on sale during the Steam winter sale. Either way I'll still probably get it.

it's definitely a 'alpha-alpha'. they have zombie (loot too?) respawning disabled, so you're unlikely to find any alive zombies on the coast. still fun though

I think before they go crazy on the zombies they want to do more client side optimization which supposedly they haven't yet.

But it's fun and scary and very very hard to survive due to the lack of med supplies and food/water.

It's a step in the right direction though.

Bro, dont get it twisted. I LOVED Dayz mod on arma 2. We even had a server for a while and a group of about 15 friends that would basically own property on it. I played the shit out of it but with those warnings on the game on steam and after reading countless bugs and problems with it I think ill wait it out a bit to see the progression.

Best times of my life in DayZ were when we had about 10 people on and found ourselves a Big Helicopter. We basically flew it over the city we wanted to raid at night and everyone jumped out at once even the pilot. We all got to watch the Helicopter crash into the distance. Another time while we were away this group came in, found our camp and robbed us. We came in a couple nights later found their camp, robbed them and stole all their trucks and cars. Good times indeed.

I am just as excited to play the stand alone Day Z but after all these early release games promising the world and never delivering I just want to wait it out a little bit is all. Or unless maybe someone were to buy it for me :)

http://www.twitch.tv/warhuryeah/b/488130916

Go to 2:05:00 Watch for 2-3 mins, WAR crashes and his char and seemingly everyone on the server get reset and he then complains that the game must be in alpha or something...

for somebody so big on dayz the mod, I can't believe you aren't excited for what Rocket is doing to the game. It's crazy how much they've gotten done so far (keeping in mind that they scrapped 6 months of this years work!). he's really blunt with what he wants to happen with the game and you can tell he truly wants to make a good game, not just one that is acceptable.

edit: hahahaha https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5HrJilElR6w

I mean I am excited but I one of those type of people that dont really like playing betas/alphas I guess. I mean ill play it but i hate investing time and effort just for it to be not really the full game. I was told yesterday by a friend that the studio making the game is one of the last good ones out there so there is some faith in them delivering an excellent product but I think im just gonna keep my eye on it and see how it goes. I mean who knows maybe ill cave if enough of my friends buy it.

Never really played much dayz and bought it today, how do you climb ladders? Also, crashing to desktop often, is there anything I should do to help that?

PS- Anyone want to take a newbie under their helm and teach me some ins and outs?
