So I'm looking to buy a new desk for my computer. Nothing fancy. No drawers, hutch, or keyboard tray need. My only stipulation is that I want a fairly large surface. And for a good price. The only one I've been able to find so far is this one from Ikea for $150:

http://m.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/spr/19852113/

That's probably the size I want. I'll be getting another monitor eventually and I have a large mousepad.
So if you know of any other places that I can get one for this size and price (or cheaper), please share.
Thanks!

Could always go for a generic folding table if you just want a huge surface. Try Home Depot or Lowes as well.

that's a fine desk, but you can get a desk as big for way cheaper from ikea. just go to the build a desk yourself section, the surfaces are usually cheap (especially the wood ones), the legs will be what cost you most depending on which you choose

edit: this is what i mean, the table bar http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/categories/departments/workspaces/10712/

i have the 20 buck one, and it's fine

Don't necessarily search for a 'desk' as such. The one I'm using now was referred to as a 'table' in Ikea.

EG:
http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/S99849975/
http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/14630009/
http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/S39932623/

I assume the US ikea site will have the same/similar products.

I got a 6 foot folding table with a plastic surface from Lowe's for 25 bucks and it holds my tower, both monitors, a large keyboard/mousepad, and all of the dishes that i'm too lazy to take back to the kitchen without feeling cramped. If you don't care about how it looks, that's definitely the way to go.

I went to a local thrift store, found this large table said $35 on it. Then went to the counter and got it for $20. I wish I could remember the name of the store. I keep thinking it was habitat for humanity, but I don't think that's it. I think its one of those types of places to help people rebuild/fix up their house who are of lower income.

IMO desks at IKEA are terribly overpriced for what you get.

You could do what I did, I got a unfinished door from home depot sand that bitch down, and get two filing cabinets and paint them the same color.

I've done one very similar to this, only I used 4x4s for the legs, I planed the edges of the door so it wouldn't cut it into my wrists/arms, and I primed/painted/sealed everything.

$80 total for the door and the filing cabinets (these cost more than the door), had to sand down all the edges and then painted it.

mdont underestimate the need for drawers

The desk I have now doesn't have any drawers. I don't have a lot of stuff so I never felt the need for them.

I might try this door desk. I like do-it-yourself projects and it'll save have me money and an hour drive to Ikea.

I did a version of this, except I used a plain table from ikea instead of the desk for the bottom. Cost was like $100 or so, i can't remember

I just used a door blank/unfinished door, 4 4x4s, 2x4s would work as well, I used L brackets because I'm lazy and they make it easier. I used rustoleum paint+primer and rustoleum clearcoat, used 2 coats of everything and it came out great.

I use a card table :D In college I used a small dinner table that I got from a yard sale for 15$ lol. You'll be fine with whatever you go for - just avoid tempered glass when I first moved into my own place I picked up a tempered glass dinner table and the thing shattered for no reason one night - scared the bajeesus out of me lol.
