I'd say it is on par. The ec2 I had was certainly a hefty mouse that felt solid in my hand. The scroll wheel was so solid that it actually interfered with its functionality. It was too stable, took too much effort to scroll. I've not noticed a significant difference in build quality between it and the 2013 DeathAdder I use now.
