idk guys maybe creating a superteam at the top of invite and playing together for 5 seasons made it hard for others to catch up

weird right

EDIT: So Harbleu is going to demo next season, and you and TLR are scouts right? Seagull can med and Squid and enigma can soldier. ur welcome

Bit of a tangent but I really don't understand this "peak" competition argument. Do you believe players and teams don't consistently improve over time as they put in more hours of work?

If I took any american "dream team" from the past and stuck them in a time machine to play the same game with the same rules against a modern 2013 "dream team" the older one would get absolutely destroyed. As much as I respect the hell out of the i46 American teams we sent to that LAN, I think if we stuck them in a time machine fast forwarded to the next europe LAN they would get destroyed by iT or whoever is top in Europe today, and i46 wasn't even that long ago.

My point is, the game evolves and so do the players who put in the time. As long as there is an outlet for competition there will be those seeking that consistent improvement; the grind is arguably the fun part of any competitive sport or game. If every cream of the crop invite player quit there'd be large shoes to fill, but they'd be filled eventually, assuming the entire scene didn't die in their wake.

At this point it's not really about wanting to "usher in a golden age of tf2" (ah ha ha who the fuck actually said that). It's about getting away from an awful league that has time and time again shit on the people that pay for it without giving anything substantial in return other than to the top 12 players in this game, and every time anyone has even suggested finding an alternative before those same 12 people have always said that "the game will die without ESEA" and "LAN is what makes the top players want to play." The majority of the community has accepted this as reasons to continue playing in ESEA for much longer than we honestly should have. The monitoring code is just the straw that has finally broken the camel's back and the excuses of "Top players will leave" and "We need LAN or the scene dies" aren't going to be acceptable reasons to continue paying and playing in this shit awful league. If the top players leave the game because of this, then so be it.

I would rather see this game die than continue to see the majority of the North American scene being scammed by ESEA.

As an aside, I do feel that the best service ESEA provides for competition is the opportunity for a level-playing field by having identical PCs, monitors, and low-ping. That alone is a pretty high incentive for anyone from open to invite. I would not have even tried this game competitively if the game didn't have a professional LAN.

Where did the idea that without sponsors and all that other shit the comp scene dies come about? The only way the competitive scene will die is if the community just outright stops playing the game competitively. The only real factor that should end the games competitive game type is the people playing it, not all the surrounding bullshit other games have that make it "competitive".

Get your fucking team and play against another team. Play the game in the competitive format that has become the staple. It's not hard.

Platinum#131 thanks for reading and appreciating the subtlety.

i was just kidding, i did read your posts, and i get the point that esea has us by our balls.

anyway moving on, this bickering and splitting up of leagues is only going to lead to the death of this community, which it seems people are fine as long as we show up esea.

unless of course someone pulls an enigma and really works hard to create an alternative.
at this point we all know why esea sucks but why we also need it, we get it, every one arguing about it is not helping

I don't know about other players in the community, but for me the competition comes from wanting to play against others, and win. The end goal is winning, and I feel that there are many who would agree. That's why so many of us play and will continue to do so. As long as another league has the players to play against I don't see why there would be a lack of competition. It might be weaker on the top end at first, as some old timers will refute change and decide to not take it seriously. However it's only as competitive as you make it.

That said, i'm only willing to move to another league if many other players do as well. I'd rather be able to play the game I love against others (even if I have to have paid for malware), than to not play at all.

As much as we all want to keep playing competitive the same way we have been playing it until now, I think something is getting clear by now, many of us simply won't be playing in ESEA next season (out of the question). And those of us who want to keep playing the game anyway will simply join another league.

We can decide which league to join as a community and hope that the competition will be just as good as it has been (or better), or we can all go our own ways and hope that the scene don't die.

Mr_OwlFogI'm willing to forgo ever playing on a competitive team if it means it frees up my time to work on a viable alternative.

If any alternative league wants to contact me for any assistance, just add me on steam and I'll be more than willing to help

same goes for me. I can't code, but I'm pretty good at administrating a bunch of children so my skills should transfer pretty well.

Consider me too, I can code and organize. You don't even understand how much I love this game.

I have considerable experience in web-design and database management if anyone wanting to create an alternative, serious league wants someone who knows what they're doing to help. I'm not kidding, I'll drop everything and work a full time job if it means a better opportunity for growth an competition in this great game. Message me. Please.

thoughts:

- I enjoyed watched Plat play huntsman sniper + TLR medic last night.
- To anyone saying this is the worst season of invite, it sure is up there, but it doesn't hold a candle to "shit 3 team LAN" season 7.
- I'm gonna make a Kickstarter to make a league. I'm gonna need at least six million dollars.
- RIP June.
- I just wanted to play videogames with cool people.

They're going to pay you in FRIENDSHIP AND LOVE OF THE GAME. Good luck getting a loan approved with that on the proposal.

You mean Seanbuds team saying they'll play only with sniper until they lose and then he plays scout? No, I think the whole thing is a pretty big shit show, they cut people to make sure they stayed at the top, they aren't there "just for fun" but clearly want to win.

WHAT IN THE F?

...was I cut? again?!?!
