AMA about life, gaming, whatever, I will be as honest as possible. First post to explain is here, I will also quote it.

Basically an AMA, but not completely centered around TF2 since I stopped really (actively) playing after Crack Clan. More or less it would be an AMA with someone that is turning 30 on the 16th, spent 10+ years in post high secondary education (undergrad, grad school, some Law school, and finishing PhD), has dealt with abuse, parents using drugs, multiple divorce with both parents, spent most of my life in relationships but struggled with cheating on SO, over consumption with alcohol, growing up as part of the "working poor", anything about working in politics or politics in general. I have more, but I figured that would be a start.

Some may ask, why not post this on reddit? First, I don't really like reddit and secondly, I know more people within the TF2 community so I would rather answer questions that *could* help others. There has been a lot of topics about depression and other related topics so I figured it may help. It should be noted that I do not have depression, but my wife has both depression and OCD, so I see it from another POV.

I don't know the best way to handle if there is interest, other than frags I guess, so I guess I will gauge it from that.

Other jobs before politics was IT and multiple generations that worked in restaurants (myself included until about 6 years ago)

It should be noted that I will still answer TF2 related questions too

It's likely that I will not answer any questions until tomorrow. I will also try to say things with complete truth. The only time I will not is if you ask direct names or something that will get me fired. If I feel that is the case, I will say "I'm sorry, but no" Anything about me, or my life, will be completely honest.

It should be noted that I will answer all questions tomorrow that happen tonight, it's just that I have a long day tomorrow so I need some sleep.

viledescribe your craziest party in college.

Hmm, that's a hard one. It depends on how someone looks at "crazy" I've been blackout drunk and ended up at a small party that I knew no one. I've also been at parties that have 300 plus people. I think the oddest thing that I have done, regarding parties, is being so drunk that you follow someone home that you don't know at all. But those people act like they have known you forever. For example, having a threesome with a dudes g/fs is very odd, a lot different than having a sex with you girls best friend. In the ladder, they decide its ok, but the former waking up is very, very awkward.

whow frustrated were you when you were dealing with abuse and having your parents do drugs

I honestly forgot (should say blocked) about a lot of the abuse until I was about 19, and the physical in an odd way helped with sports. It's sad, but something I had to deal with

Edit

I was getting really tired so I want to add a few more things. When I was younger I thought of it as "normal" so it really didn't bother me too much. It wasn't until I was older that I figured out how much worse the abuse got when he was drunk or high. I learned to stay away when he was getting to the point of no longer being able to control himself. Sports really helped in that regard, since I wouldn't be home as often and didn't have to spend hours being bored in a bar. Looking back, I am honestly lucky that I was never in a drunken car accident.

RikachuExplain a typical day in the IT department. Is it anything like the IT Crowd?

It's pretty different. It all comes down to what your job wants. We had to make every inch of Ohio University to have wifi so some days it was pain and other days we would play 2v2 Starcraft BW

KupkakeWhat branch of legal studies and are you using anything you learned in post secondary school with any regularity in your current position.

It's more domestic politics, while I studied International to move to Europe, I haven't been able too yet. I will add more tomorrow.

POLS is a lot more theory than anything else, so very little is used in the majority of political jobs. I have to say that it's more social science mixed with tons of statistics. It's kinda sad and most people won't admit this but voters are nothing but a statistic to anyone outside of field work.

I'll be going on an IT internship starting in January. Any tips? what's it like? I've heard you do a whole lot of nothing until everything crashes. How much coding were you involved in, if any, and how much maintenance is required?

Having all the experience you do with stress and unhappiness, how, nowadays, do you deal with those things when they show up again (whatever form they may take)?

I've recently turned 20 and live with a lot of things in life that friends and outsiders have called "unfair", but I haven't found anything I can do or say about my circumstances to be satisfying or bring me happiness. When I deal with things now I tend to emotionally shut down and view everything very logically until it's over, and frequently find myself falling back on escapism (video games, talking with friends, music, w/e).

I want the view of another person who knows what it feels like to have really bad things in their life that they just can't get rid of, so they just deal with it. (Or more accurately, I feel, just continue existing with it.)
