HueyLewisbearodactylIts the same exact fucking thing with a full screen start menu.
This is essentially correct. My win7 student license expired so I'm using a free win8 I got a while back. Boots faster, loads things quicker, just has a full-screen start menu. I don't really use it much but I added some of my steam games as live tiles just for fun:

Like others have said the latest version of mumble works fine including the overlay if you just start it before steam. Annoying, but minor. 8.1, which adds the normal start menu back is out unofficially too. Should be official in October last I heard.

How'd you get tf.tv to be on the metro menu thing?

It says "Desktop" in the lower left corner.

It's perfectly fine, I was running Windows 8 for a while, TF2 ran the same. I'm using the 8.1 preview now and it's still fine.

It doesn't work. It's a known issue.

also u cant oc mouse hz on it, meaning if ur a microsoft mouse user its unusable

otherwise id say its worth it to use if ur forced to format. it has native multimonitor support which is enough to justify it for me

this may only be semi-related, but ive been having a problem with gamma and windows eight. i recently downloaded amnesia 2, and the game has a built-in gamma slider. when i move it, the screen will flash to the according changes in brightness, but then go back to default. ive had the same problem setting up another monitor, the color and brightness go back to normal after a second.

I have 8 on my laptop but I hate it.

I will freely acknowledge that this is largely probably from not being used to it, but I hate a lot of the app launches rather than regular programs, and the fact that the start menu is just a whole-screen app grid.

Are you using Flux? Flux is known for forcing its own settings on every program, whether you have it set to disable for full-screen apps or not. It's the only time I've seen anything like that happen. Just stopped playing Machine for Pigs and it's working fine for me.

I'm on Win8 for a while now and have no Issues. The only thing that happened to me was that my Microphone stopped working after enabling the HyerpV-Role.

microsoft mice have lower max 'control' speed and more negative acceleration and of course more input lag if you leave them at 125hz instead of 500hz. its not unusable but I wouldn't recommend it.

I've been using Win8 for both streaming and playing TF2, 0 problems so far.

The only thing I would recommend you doing is getting something like StartIsBack or Classic Shell since Metro UI is really shitty.

Hello old thread. Microsoft have released a patch to fix certain mouse pointer issues with 8.1.

Can anyone with 8.1 installed confirm it fixes the mouse lag with TF2?

One thing I notice about Win 8 and TF2 is that ALT-TAB in fullscreen mode is super smooth.

Windows 8 is great for me, alttabbing and dual-monitor performance is very smooth. Metro really isn't as bad as people say, just spend a few days on Windows 8 and you'll get used to it.

I recently upgraded from Windows 7 SP1 to 8.1 after installing a new SSD and it has grown on me. The desktop and compatibility hasn't changed much from 7 besides the start menu. The metro interface is easy to learn if you take an hour researching about it. If you're familiar at all with any cell-phone UI it is pretty simple even with a mouse.

I wish the metro UI integrated a bit better with my Google cloud stuff, but it looks like there are a lot of third party apps on the Microsoft Store that bridge that gap. For example, I found one called gMusicW that streams my music from Google Play and scrobbles it automatically to my last.fm.
