Im thinking of changing my windows to 8, are there any issues i should know beforehand ? Does all the acceleration off and vsync/directx crap works normally with tf2 ? Will my sensitivity change in any way ? Any mumble/teamspeak problems ?
I would love to hear input from people that have done the transition ! Thanks !

Been playing TF2 on Win 8 for ~9 months, encountered no problems.
Also pretty much anything that works on windows 7 will work on 8

I've had 2 issues with Win 8 on my PC, neither are game-breaking but I am yet to fix them:

1. I run TF2 in windowed no-border on a 120hz monitor, and if I have any video or GIF on my secondary monitor, it forces my main monitor back to 60hz. I've heard some other people complain about this as well, but I haven't found a decent solution.

2. Mumble has been slightly buggy, on 1.2.4 I had overlays working, but it would often stop responding, and if I happened to be talking during this, other people in mumble kept hearing me until it started responding again (1 min ish?)

Neither of these are game-breaking, but they are issues i am having. On the other hand I love the fast boot times of Win 8 + SSD, makes restarting a non-issue.

I would say if you're running Win 7 don't bother, but anything earlier than that do consider Win 8, most of the complaints it gets (metro) can be easily nullified

If you have an AMD video card, you should probably stay away from Windows 8 unless you plan on playing in fullscreen. Microsoft redesigned Aero (they did not remove it), and it's forced on. This means that on AMD video cards, there is no way to turn off vsync on the desktop without 3rd party programs as the control panel does not allow you to turn it off on the Aero desktop. Fullscreen may not even work if you have two monitors (someone should look into this). Nvidia users can fully turn off vsync, at least in Windows 7 Aero.

I'm not saying the OS is bad; in fact, I love having it on my laptop, even with the Metro UI (Reader is useful for textbooks :>).

I have been running Windows 8 since May without any major issues. I have two screens, one of them 120hz with lightboost and I haven't had issues with changing refresh rates (I play in full screen though).
No issues with tf2 crashing for me, smooths still don't work but I was having that issue with my windows 7 machine.

I had this problem, try this fix: http://teamfortress.tv/forum/thread/3713/1#post-7
Since I tried that my overlay works and mumble doesn't crash.

There only seems to be small issues with Win8 and TF2, but using the OS in general is a pain. I personally switched to Linux Mint over Win8, and I ended up having better performance in-game then I did in Windows, Mumble works perfectly too. Wouldn't suggest it if you play in ESEA though, because they refuse to put out a Linux client.

snackswindows 8 is great for laptops, not the best for desktops

it's only a very minor upgrade if you already have windows 7 so I wouldn't say it is worth buying if you already have 7 yet

if you have windows xp or vista it's a clear winner over 7 just cause it's 7 but slightly better.

Just have it boot into desktop mode and ignore Metro, proceed to have Windows 7 that boots faster, has a quick recovery option, and has a far better Task Mananger (seriously the Windows 8 Task Manager is GODLY).

bearodactylIts the same exact fucking thing with a full screen start menu.

This is essentially correct. My win7 student license expired so I'm using a free win8 I got a while back. Boots faster, loads things quicker, just has a full-screen start menu. I don't really use it much but I added some of my steam games as live tiles just for fun:

Like others have said the latest version of mumble works fine including the overlay if you just start it before steam. Annoying, but minor. 8.1, which adds the normal start menu back is out unofficially too. Should be official in October last I heard.

Windows 8.1 adds a Start Button but it just takes you to the Metro Menu. :(

It does add official "boot to desktop" support though and tbh the Start Button is completely useless when you can just pin stuff to the start bar and in 8.1 do Windows Key + Q and stay on the desktop.
