Figured it would be worth it's own thread. The main thread of the wiki is here

First of all, I just revamped our logo and everything related to our wiki will try to follow the style of the logo. Hope you like it and it looks more professional than the old one!

Let's start with a small introduction. Comp.tf appeared in it's final form (a wiki) July 1st. To commemorate 1 month of existence and give back all the amazing support and help I have received I decided to sponsor some stuff in line with comp.tf goals. It will be a win-win situation for everyone

So, to start off we will be hosting a 6v6 Newbie-Only Cup.
1 cup for NA teams and 1 cup for EU teams

>> What is Newbie 6v6? <<

Newbie 6v6 is the normal 6v6 competitive format, only played with people new to the competitive metagame, it is used as an introductory level to competitive 6v6.

>> Rules <<

No maximum sign-ups

>> Cup Format <<

Double-elimination or Single-elimination, not decided yet, depending on the number of signups
Bo1 until the semi-finals (this means only 1 map per match)
Bo3 in the finals

>> Cup Date <<

15th September 2013 (Sunday) - Official match times to be decided depending on the number of sign ups.

We intend to start early in the afternoon, probably around 3pm (CEST and EST respectively for the EU and NA cup) and finish before 22:30 (CEST and EST)

>> Sign Ups close <<

13th September 23:59 GMT (01:00 CEST) (19:00 EST)

>> Rulesets, configs and maplist <<

NA tournament will use ESEA S14 ruleset and maplist
EU tournament will use ETF2L S15 ruleset and maplist

>> Player Restrictions <<

No ESEA experience
No ETF2L experience above div6
Maximum of 1 season ETF2L 6v6 experience on div6, and can't have placed above mid-table
Maximum of 1 season UGC 6v6 experience on Steel maximum
Maximum of 1 season experience on any other leagues on the lowest 6v6 division of that league (ex: wireplay, etc...)
No Highlander experience restriction is set at the moment for this cup but use your judgment wisely, no team made-up of platinum-only HL players will be allowed in the cup.

>> Exceptions <<

Since the original cup date has been postponed from 18th August to 15th September every team that has signed up so far will not suffer the 1 season max experience restriction for any season that started after the original cup date (ie: UGC new 6v6 Season starting early September), other restrictions still apply to these teams
Teams are allowed MAX 1 player per team with:
UGC 6v6 experience on Silver division of 1 season maximum
UGC 6v6 experience on Steel division for more than 1 season
ETF2L experience on div6 for more than 1 season or placed above mid-table

The player in question covered by the player restrictions exceptions should be mentioned on the notes area of the application form.

Each application will be manually reviewed to prevent abuse.
Any teams that do not obey these requisites are subject to have their application denied

These restrictions are in place to ensure this stays a newbie-only cup.

Any teams that have experienced players that do not obey the requisites or are found using alts will be disqualified. If it happens mid-tournament the team will be disqualified and the last match played will be changed to a default loss.

>> Prizes <<

For the 1st placed team in each cup (NA and EU cup):

3-months server
6 keys (to be given to the team leader after the cup)

>> Sign-Up <<

You can sign up for the tournament HERE

Note: If your team doesn't exactly obey the player restrictions above but you think you should be able to play, use the Notes area on the application form and explain why you should be allowed to play and we will review your case.
Suggestions and Discussion

Use the discussion page or post here if you have any suggestion for the rules or the tournament in general, we are receptive to criticism and suggestions.

Keep in mind it's the first time I get myself into something big like this, I expect a lot of headaches but I also accept help from people that have had experience running stuff like this, so if you want to help me out or give me a few tips feel free to add me on steam.

I am accepting sponsors for the servers, at the moment I'm planning on paying for 2, 3 months server prizes myself, but if someone is willing to donate servers or even money to the prize pool I'm open to offers. Just add me on steam to discuss.

Also interested in getting the event casted. Will see how it goes but I will definitely be contacting some people to know if it's doable.

Now, you thought the big news were over? You were wrong.

We have 2 more contests!

http://i.imgur.com/sAppHys.png

If our steam group reaches 2000 members we will be raffling away 1 Unusual hat to a random member of it.

So make sure to join and invite all your friends! :)

We are giving away another unusual hat even rarer and with a new effect to the most valuable member of our wiki until September 15th, the winner will be announced after the last cup final is disputed. A little incentive to get some more content on our wiki. The prize winner will be decided at our staff team discretion

Amazing thanks to joshi who donated these 2 unusual hats! I am still accepting donations both for the cup and contests prizepool, server / items, whatever donations are welcome :)

If you can pass the word about this tournament and contests I would really appreciate it! We need to get the maximum number of people involved.

That's all for now! As I said above, if you think you can help me out, or even give me some tips, just add me on steam and we'll talk.

This is awesome. I'll see if my team will play.

few questions:
Can any 6v6 team with any amount of experience in UGC can join (unless they've also played in ESEA/ETF2L)?
Can a team play if a single/couple member(s) of the team has/have played in ESEA/ETF2L?
Are there alternative prizes for teams that already have servers (IMO paying for like a season of ESEA would make more sense, but i dunno how much more/less expensive that is)?
What maps are going to be played?
Is it completely free to join?

KoobadoobsCan any 6v6 team with any amount of experience in UGC can join (unless they've also played in ESEA/ETF2L)?

Yes, I specifically stated ESEA as the only restriction to allow teams from other leagues (which are usually lower skilled) to join in. But I am flexible to these restrictions. I just set them in place becaseu I had to draw a barrier where one team is a newbie team and when one is not, and I tried to do it by not allowing ESEA-O or ETF2L div6+ teams. Of course this is subjective but its how I found we could draw the line. But I am open to suggestions on what level to allow from.

KoobadoobsCan a team play if a single/couple member(s) of the team has/have played in ESEA/ETF2L?

Haven't entirely decided on this. I guess it's pretty hard for an entire team to be made of completely new players so probably we will analyze case by case, depends on the players and experience they have gotten before. So in short, probably yes, not yet decided.

KoobadoobsAre there alternative prizes for teams that already have servers (IMO paying for like a season of ESEA would make more sense, but i dunno how much more/less expensive that is)?

Atm no, unless anyone wants to donate to the prizepool. It certainly sounds the best option for what this tournament is about but unfortunately I'm in no position to afford that atm, Im not sure of the costs but I think it's considerably higher than the servers.

KoobadoobsWhat maps are going to be played?

As stated in the first post, rulesets and maps will be the same as the previous season ones, so for example the NA tournament will have the ruleset and maps of ESEA last season and EU tournament will have the ruleset and maps of ETF2L last season

KoobadoobsIs it completely free to join?

yes

Also interested in getting the event casted. Will see how it goes but I will definitely be contacting some people to know if it's doable.

Could be a good chance to get newbie casters in there! Let me know if you want below average 6s casting.

Are there going to be enough rounds played that every map is used? It seems a bit much to expect newbie teams to learn all 8 maps for one cup (especially maps like gpit and viaduct which are their own gamemodes).

I have no idea. Depends on the number of signups I guess... I can't say it for sure atm

Honestly the newbie players + newbie casters mix is a bit risky I think :D And the idea with casts is to create some motivation for teams to sign up as well. So more recognized casters / streams are welcome. If you are interested I would love to have you casting it. If this runs as well as I want it to and expect it to we will need 2 streams (1 for the NA cup and one for the EU cup).

Thats a very specific case, but I guess as long as you have never officially played a match in Open before It would be cool

I'd like to sign my team up; we're an EU HL team, and a few of us would like to play 6s, which we've only done once or twice before. Thing is, I know I'm going to need some substitute players, but I wouldn't know who they are yet. Can you add players to the roster after signup? (if they're eligible, of course)

Yes but we will need to be informed of those players before the start of the cup.

I would love to do this to much about, but three out of the six are currently on vacation, including myself. We have the most ridiculous 6v6 team.. A sniper, pyro, soldier, scout, demoman, and medic. Works better then you'd think..

I honestly dont know why you're getting -fragged. As long as you play within the rules you are free to use whatever class layouts you wish and if it works for you, better! We don't want to exclude anyone, as long as it's within the rules. Of course there's this cookie cutter and proof tested model everyone uses, but a little diversity wont hurt anyone.

smoboIf you need anything (short of paying for prizes) let me know. I don't know a whole lot of new players but I'll spread the word to some of them.

Spreading the word helps a lot already, if you could do that would be already a big help :)

bearodactylWait, so no prior experience in esea is allowed, but ugc 6s is ok?

yes. I am considering UGC a entry level league to 6v6, same way as I am considering etf2l div6. Making a tournament of purely completely new players that never played a league before would be risky and probably have a lot less sign ups.

Of course each sign up will be analyzed case by case, I am not familiar with UGC 6s layout but if there's different divisions I don't think we will allow any higher than the lower division to play. But that's just me speaking out loud now, nothing is set in stone yet, because this is a lot about testing waters for me, I have never done anything this big

raxozelletFightmasterwhat is the date this tournament is happening exactly?
August 18th but I would like to know at what time it starts.

Times are not decided yet as it will also depend on the number of signups, but they will be decided with plenty of time in advance I reckon, like 1 week before. Probably gonna start mid-afternoon until night.

Update
Signups atm after half a day are not bad, but I expect a lot more from the EU community.

Amazing thanks to joshi who donated 2 unusual hats, now need to decide how to put them to good use, whether the wiki / steam group contest or the tournament prizepool!

No limit set, and I dont see the need to set one atm, as long as you dont give me link me 15 team members for a 6v6 team. Backups should also abide the newbie players restrictions

Rules:

No maximum sign-ups

Sign Ups close:
-> 17th August 23:59 GMT

Player Restrictions:
-> No ESEA experience
-> No ETF2L experience above div6
-> Maximum of 1 season ETF2L experience on div6, and can't have placed above mid-table
-> Maximum of 1 season UGC experience on Iron 6v6 maximum
-> Maximum of 1 season experience on any other leagues on the lowest 6v6 division of that league (ex: wireplay, etc...)

Teams are allowed MAX 1 player per team with:
-> ESEA experience (maximum Open)
-> ETF2L experience on div6 for more than 1 season or placed above mid table
-> UGC experience on Steel division

Rulesets, configs and maplist:
NA tournament will use ESEA S14 ruleset and maplist
EU tournament will use ETF2L S15 ruleset and maplist

Any teams that do not obey these requisites will be scraped from the cup

(I am flexible to these rules arrangements, if you want to discuss or negotiate state in your notes comment why do you think you should be able to play)

This is to ensure this really stays a newbie-only cup and it's not ruined by people carrying. Any teams that have experienced players that do not obey the requisites playing or in alts will be disqualified when found. Even if it happens mid-tournament
(ex: div2 players on alt account playing in the cup is not acceptable)

I don't know at what time you americans usually center your league matches, because there are so many timezones, can someone tell me?

It'll be cool if this can get casted, seeing newbies play in a 6v6 tournament is pretty cool.

Updated rules

Need to know which timezone the NA scene usually goes by, and if you prefer a single elimination tournament or a double elimination tournament.

Usually EST is standard, and make sure to always say EST (US East Coast) whenever time is mentioned.

NA probably prefers double elimination, as that's how ESEA Playoffs are done.

KanecoUpdated rules

NA usually sticks to EST (about 50% of NA players are in EST from what I've seen). In UGC, standard match time is 9:30pm EST. At the very latest, I would say the final match should begin at 10:00pm EST, but 9:30 would be a lot better I think.

Double elim obviously takes longer but would be more newbie friendly. If the number of teams gets high, I would stick to single elim.
