It's like an RTS where you control one unit.
If I wanted to do that I'd play an RTS.

If we were gonna play a MOBA game, we mine as well play Dota 2, since it's on steam, pretty much free(too many invites!), and you can play any hero you want for freeeeee.
yeah fuck you op i'll take my objectively better f2p dota2 master race game instead of your shit kiddie p2w trollfest of a game

Do people just call them "MOBAs" now because Riot named their shit-hole game that genre?
Quality.
You know it takes you like 50+ wins or whatever just to unlock the 'latest hero' in that game? A+ Either that or 5-10 bucks.

That is literally the description of every multiplayer game ever.

Well you don't need to have the "latest hero". There are plenty of hero that you can get after 3-5 games.
Sure it is annoying that you don't have a hero you want, but that is why this business model works.
How does it work in Dota? I'm sure people pay for something similar, no?
In any event, League certainly isn't the first to come up with this model, where it isn't pay to win but it isn't nothing either.

you start off with all champs unlocked, no grinding involved.

Yeah I inferred that, but obviously Valve makes money from dota. So what can money buy you in-game?

Yeah, because 9 times out of 10, the new hero is imbalanced. When I played and when these heroes came out: yorick, vayne, ahri, graves, jarvan, xin zhao - were are stupidly balanced. It really is soft pay to win, or play 500 games to get the "new imbalanced hero". I don't care whether it's their "business model" and that it works for them. I'm concerned with the fact you either need to play a shit ton + bank up some points or pay money to try a new hero that should be available whenever! Not only that, having multiple rune pages is almost essential if you want to get anywhere in that game. Else, your rune pages aren't diverse enough and you're weaker at a role in a ranked game because x player picked y role, and your z rune page just doesn't cut it.
Please don't try and do the same thing with TF2, as we all know 99% of the unlocks are side-grades at best.

brownymasteryukitruth of why lol sucksBasically the biggest problem I have with LoL. You have to grind to be on equal footing with any other play. In non-casual competitive games, everybody starts equally in the eyes of the game (no advantages for playing/grinding/paying more). A level 1 LoL account can never compete against a level 30 LoL account with every rune and super rune pages etc.
A Level 1 account will never be paired against a level 30 LoL account unless you're doing custom games pretty much though.
The main problem is a Level 30 LoL account can not compete against other level 30 LoL accounts based on runes/champions owned.

Balance will always be imperfect. Heros are changed to be stronger/weaker every patch. I would imagine its the same for Dota?
At any given time, you will always have X heros for every roll that are way better than the rest.
New heros aren't always overpowered. Most of the heros that are changed with every new patch are pretty old.
I mean sure as a player I find it frustrating that I have to bank up on IP, but I understand Riot's view as well.
Honestly if all you can buy in Dota is cosmetics, then I really don't understand how they are making money. (but then TF2 pops in to mind, so I guess there really are enough people that care about that stuff)
I think your term "soft pay to win" nails it. I don't like just "pay to win".

Personally don't like LoL just because the graphics look to comical for me, along with the fact that the community is even worse than DOTAs (world record) and the subtle pay to win implications.

This is pretty much it. I see no reason why LoL should've added runes and such. The difference between Dota 2 and LoL is pretty easy to see. What I dislike about LoL is that you can't play whatever hero you want unless you buy it, or it's free that weak. I feel that limits your ability to play well if you were good at that hero before. While in Dota 2, you can play any hero, test out things, and get better at it, like you can practice as a class in TF2.
When LoL was made after DotA, they changed some mechanics and added unnecessary things. They took away denying, which is a very skillful and handy technique to prevent your enemy from farming/gaining exp, as to stop them from profiting from a tower. They made a FREE TELEPORT BACK TO SPAWN, with the b key, while in Dota 2 you'd still have to buy a TP Scroll. But most of all, is Masteries and Runes. Very unnecessary things they added, which HoN or Dota 2 don't even have. The skillgap is quite different, you can't even play what hero you want most of the time, and everyone else and your friends are likely to already have Dota 2 as it's on Steam.
Finally, what's with so many LoL heroes being able to dash and attack with some big boom/slash? I see that so many times in LoL...
EDIT: My friend and I are making a list of champions that dash right now.
