The Verge article.

Currently the Xbox One site is down for maintenance, however some things to note.

Xbox One will no longer require once every 24 hour internet connections, it can be always offline.
Xbox One games can be played offline.
Xbox One games can be sold/loaned/borrowed to friends/stores just like games nowadays do.

the people whining are the same internet brigade that bitch at EA for DRM and still eat up their games. i don't think they would have had issues selling consoles even had they left it alone.

Still $100 more than the PS4. Will make no difference to people's opinions.

In the end nothing will really change for PS4 or XboxOne if big publishers still wants to push online passes to combat the used game market. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

I was actually hoping the DRM stuff would be a step towards digital distribution and Steam Summer Sale type things.

I still do wonder if the people who decided to implement the original ridiculous requirements/drm have actually learned anything in the long run. They're not the first to try it and other companies have been burnt spectacularly before them.

Well I think what sony did set an important industry standard and it makes sense that xbox would follow suit and its the better move to make other than to try and stick it out after knowing full well that you've fucked up spectacularly.

That being said I think a lot of the sony > xbox e3 hype was overblown since sony is now making people pay for online gaming and it is still important that sony really just established that their stance was as far as their console went. They still leave it open to developers to put DRM in as they see fit which can still lead to issues down the road. Ultimately there's going to be very little difference between the consoles as exclusives in this day and age basically exist on nintendo consoles or the PC.

Kinect is still shit tho

The problem wasn't so much because of DRM and online passes in general. It was how Microsoft was going to require it. Don't get me wrong, I hate the online pass model as much as the next guy, but there's no way I'm supporting a company that forces DRM for every single game on the system. Leave that to the software manufacturers who actually make the games.

The price difference, lack of kinect being on, instant video sharing make it still hugely in PS4's favor, at least for me.

They pretty much showed their hand though, with their original stance. This change might salvage the xbox1, but it certainly won't make it successful.

Also, still don't get why they named it Xbox 1. Failure of the marketing team.

i think because you only need ONE device, the xbox ONE, to do everything you need. the only thing i seem to hate about the xbox one is kinect always being on or whatever and the ad achievements sort of thing seems a recipe for some real shit.
