Oh, you already found it, great!

For now, the ESA tournaments are only open for European teams. However, that may change, depending on the success of the European tournaments and the interest for this concept in North America.

The prize pool is based on premium subscriptions. For the first few months, 100% of every subscription will be recycled into prize money. More information on the model and the opening offer can be found here: https://esagamer.com/blogs/2/Welcome-esports-fans-long-version

The prize pool is therefore subject to change and the entered value is based on ~1,000 subscriptions in June (4x £1,250 tournaments). From August on, the tournaments will not be open for everyone anymore but all teams are divided into 3 skill tiers (each with the same prize pool) to ensure fairer matches.

AWESOME

TF2 IS ALIVE AND KICKING!

First IGL, then valve announces matchmaking, now this, we are DOING IT!

Get valve to notice these new leagues sponsoring tf2 please, they might open their eyes and wallets a bit more to our scene, we must be doing something right.

Also, if this and IGL kicks off and the matchmaking as well not much longer we could really see an exponential increase in the scene, like real big increase, we have passed the storm, good times ahead, good times...

By only for european teams, does that mean that NA teams cant sign up? or that it will only be played on euro servers.

well most US teams don't play etf2l and most teams in esea don't bother with ugc
plus IGL is a ladder, not a league, so it's essentially a scrim finder

Rather not. Ping will always be an issue to ensure an even playing field and the tournaments will last the whole day, if all slots are filled (11 CEST - 24.00 CEST).
If things turn out well, however, ESA will be looking to expand to other regions as well.

It seems I need to be over 18.

The ESA need to confirm you are over 18 and eligible to play for cash prizes. Please enter the correct details as we may request a piece of government-issued ID as proof.

Doesn't that alienate quite a large portion of the community?

The prize pool is based on premium subscriptions. For the first few months, 100% of every subscription will be recycled into prize money.

So does that mean that the first tourny is free with a 1,250 prize pot and after that the format changes or does that mean that you need to subscribe for thee first tourny then that contributes to a (currently) zero dollar prize pot? I'm just a bit confused after reading through your blog post about it.

I think right now every league is going for a niche in the scene.

For example:
ESEA has p2p 6v6 in NA (main market NA 6v6)
UGC has f2p Highlander in NA and EU and 6v6 (only NA? not sure) (main market NA HL)
IGL has Highlander and 6v6 Ladder (main market ladders?)
ETF2L has f2p 6v6 and HL in EU (main market = EU)
ESA has p2p 6v6 in EU (main market = EU p2p?)

Eventually these 5 leagues won't be able to coexist that's for sure, unless the matchmaking system launches soon enough to be able to grow the scene exponentially and accommodate these leagues (god I fuckin hope so), otherwise, some leagues will prevail, and I think we should really give IGL and ESA a chance because they look like really professional, well-thought, have a decent business plan, and seem to be really in touch with the community. Only the future will tell if all the leagues will be able to coexist and if not which superpower will emerge from this clash of the leagues.

Each subscription contributes at 100% to the prize pool during the opening months. The total prize pool is then divided by 4 (current plan: 4 tournaments on every Sunday in July) and that is your prize pool per tournament. Sponsored tournaments may follow later but first we need to get the ball rolling.
To be eligible to win money, you need a premium account. If, for example, a team has only 4/6 premium members and wins £100, the total winnings of that team will be two thirds of the listed winnings or £66,67.

To be honest, this is a legal requirement and standard practice across all tournament platforms, we've just been up front and honest about it.

If things turn out well, however, ESA will be looking to expand to other regions as well.

Can NA players play at all? Like if someone on the East Coast has time and a euro team needs a ringer. Or are you going to set up a ping limit, what if a player had bad internet the day of the tourny, would they have to get a ringer?
