This to say the least is a BIT disturbing. -edit- sorry this pun was to good to pass up.

Honestly, I am glad I never took part in esea now don't know if I'll ever sign-up for esea after this either. Personally I feel that ESEA owes their subscribers more than "$280" which the subscribers have no way in knowing if it was that amount or more. Not to mention they did shorten the life of every gpu involved, plus increased everyones electric bill without prior notice.

This is almost as bad as what Infinite would do. (if not worse)

CEVO might just have a chance at becoming a top-league again if people get upset enough over it.

-edit 2-

People might be able to sue for Damages to hardware and increased Electric bills. What their ToS does is cover their asses from people suing for their subscription fees, not damages / increased cost of maintenance (from using their client as intended).

The question is if nobody noticed this happening and the thread wasn't created, how long would this have gone on for? Would ESEA have told their users about their "mistake"

mghughlaurieyes it's so hilarious that a company used their users computers for their own benefit without telling them it was happening.

wasn't on purpose, and the money is going into the prize pot
i'd be fine with them doing this for prize pots or freemium actually

Just because ESEA admins said it doesn't mean it's true.

Still, I have no real reason to be more than slightly suspicious.

some people had their gpu's fry because of this. Ridiculous they would even consider doing something so unprofessional and irresponsible.

if you've actually been reading esea threads like i have multiple people have been complaining about performance issues for weeks and they just now update the client once they were found out. i'm calling bullshit it was on accident

I think the best part is lpkane being lpkane and just laughing it off like it's no big deal. It really is unfortunate that this is the only way we can keep TF2 going.

This wasn't just tf2 players... everyone who uses the esea client was affected.

If only leetway supported tf2.

Some people need to poke at them to expand beyond csgo.

Also maybe UGC 6v6 will finally start getting people.

The fact that this idea went beyond just that and actually happened is very unsettling. I see nothing but malicious intent. Honestly hope someones takes up a lawsuit. There'd be a lot of damages. This shit seriously better not slip by for some freemium and some prize money. They used YOUR property without your knowledge to make money and then not credit you.

For those curious, and more for those angry and have legitimate right to be.

ESEA not being involved with TF2 wouldn't Kill OzFortress, ETF2L, UGC, or CEVO. TF2 could still exist, it would only die if people who actually played and widely recognized LIKE YOU gave up on it.

please name an example of any other north american league that offers genuine cash incentive to play and any league that offers the level of skill that ESEA does

Yes, and ESEA dropping tf2, or the tf2 community deciding to boycott ESEA would lead to such.

hrm well if bitcoins are often used to purchase illegal things online then that means...

That the true purpose of esea is to take our money and obtain child pornography. Here's how it works. When you run the ESEA client it says that it just scans for hacks, right? well it does, but it also scans for child porn, which if found, is uploaded to their servers. That's why the servers are always so shitty. People are constantly uploading CP. Bitcoins are often used to buy illegal things online, so ESEA must be farming bitcoins with our computers so that they can purchase child pornography and possibly drugs holy shit this is retarded what am I writing lol
