More places to hoop - ideas/help wanted.

First off, I'd like to give my thanks to Klanana and TF2jump for hosting the bball server. Like, real talk, thanks.

I like bball, and I like the bball.it server, so this is in no way a complaint - more of a... vision.

Who else would be interested in seeing more bball maps... a bball map rotation even?

New BBall maps could be simple re-skins, like... say... DISCO BBALL (with all sorts of lights and disco stuff), or SAFARI BBALL (jungle background with animals and shit), orrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr maybe SCOOBA BBALL (like safari bball but no jungle or land animals allowed, lots of water and fish instead).

I think I remember someone mentioning the idea of bball maps that had different terrain too.

Personally, I think that shit would be, as people said in the '90s, "pretty cool."

If you want to make maps, or have more ideas, post here.

Or, if you want to teach me how to make maps so I can do it, add me doog.

I'd like a BBall map with legit height advantage. Maybe some platforms here and there, OR, make one where the hoop is really high, like 3x higher so you have to do double jumps off a wall to get there.

I think this is really the next step... and you could track partner ratings + individual ratings.

But like protato said, I think it's been really hard to implement the multiple intel causing it to be buggy.

I've been trying to work out some of the bugs with mge bball, so far these are the things that people have told me they wanted changed:

-intel hitbox is too small
-You can't drop the intel on the hoop
-You can pickup the intel instantly after dropping it

If there's anything else that needs to be changed feel free to let me know. Right now I've got the intel to be the correct size and dropping correctly, but for some reason it keeps dropping through the hoop (but not the backboard pole). Hopefully sometime this week I'll figure out why it doing that and get these things fixed.

When i first opened bball it we discussed adding a map with 2 courts (i think raiin was going to do it or look into it or something) - I assume the issue with that would lie with multiple intels though I dont know jack shit about mapping.

Also I remember talking to someone a year or so ago (i think it was burgerking) about creating a new type of map from bball which would involve obstacles and climbing and shit - it actually sounded really cool... but I dont think anything came of that either.

If you guys make this shit... I will support it!

I had a long talk with Walka/Burger years ago about building more complex maps with terrain and slightly larger hoops/goals, we had some pretty good ideas but our lack of mapping knowledge stopped it from ever happening. I think making new maps is a great idea, just watch that you don't put in too many walls or capping becomes way too easy.

For sure. Obviously any new maps would require some pretty hefty testing.

Like I said though, even a couple re-skins would be dope.

Like, say... SPACE BBALL (with meteors and ufos and maybe a bust of George Clinton).

I sorta know how to use hammer, but I never really got around to the whole trigger part. If someone could somehow get me a copy of the hammer file for the original bball map, I could probably modify it into a whole new map.

This ones a bit of a stretch but having like Atzek temple walls and basing it somewhat off Ullamaliztli.

Would be the same concept as regular bball but maybe the "hoop" would need to be higher up on the back wall, not sure how that'd work gameplay wise thought.

Odd that you mention it, as a huge fan of bball i was planning on making a Bball map. Never really got around to it as it seemed pointless and wasted effort, i never realized how much people would actually *want* things like that. I'll probably start working on it for a few weeks and see what i can come up with.

how cool would actual bball be? as in you have to shoot that thing into a hoop, maybe even the hoop is super high so you have to airshot it in or something. ift would require someone to figure out how to make the hitbox on that thing more like a cube and bigger, so rockets could only send it in a couple directions, and you had to shoot it to pass it around between people and then score? probably a bigger map with terrain advantages.

there are so many obstacles that there's no way it would ever happen but god that'd be cool. it would take rocket aim to score and you could still deny scoring opportunities with airshots... you could even score on a denial with a lucky double....

I think jungle bball would be good/easy place to start for re-skins. Like Benroads suggested, we could have tree-trunks with the hoops on them, and rocky side walls. We could also have some trees and things in the surrounding area, and maybe some animals spectating from the treetops, rain forest sound-effects, and so on.

I tried using hammer a couple times and iirc it's broken now so I couldnt help if I did learn what the hell to do.

Was looking around maps for ideas, I think cp_antiquity_rc1 has some decent textures that would work well for the whole "jungle" theme. I really like the background thing that goes on with it too.
